The general gaming community would tend to disagree with you. This site which basically ranks games based on reviews from users and various gaming sources has Zelda: Ocarina of Time ranked as the #1 game out of over 6000. Also, another Nintendo Exclusive game Metroid Prime comes in at #2 and Zelda: The Wind Waker comes in at #7. So I would say that Nintendo games are that good.
It seems as if the Slashdot crowd has forgotten what it was like to be a kid in high school. Many comments posted thus far criticize the kid for not liking the system. Heck, if I was in high school, I wouldn't like the system either. I may not speak for everyone, but I know I'm in the majority when I say that I thought homework sucked in high school. Heck, I'm a graduate student and I still don't like homework. A very significant part of high school is developing into an adult and taking on responsibility without parental assistance. If the parents want to know if a kid has homework, then they should ask the kid. If the kid lies to his parents then there are bigger problems to deal with.
For most businesses the cost of the actual software is only a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of technical support for the software over the years. Truth be told, your average user has an easier time and needs less help using Winblows and it's proprietary applications than Linux. This is mostly because of familiarity with the products at work and most likely home as well. So for a business, especially one with many non-technically savvy employees as I'm sure is the case here, it may make more sense to just pay for Windows.
There are ATM's somewhat like this in Connecticut casinos already. You tell the ATM how much you want to take out and right then it asks you if you want to bet double or nothing on a hand of video poker. Not sure where the profit goes though. The casinos in Connecticut are on Native American Reservations so it probably doesn't go to the state.
