Fuckin' EXACTLY. People in general don't give a fuck about computers, about software, or any sort of lame fucking computer culture idologies. All they care about is that they can email friends and relatives, and play some solitaire when they're bored. I really, REALLY wish more people here would understand that.
Self-sufficiency is quite easily attainable, actually. You simply never stop touring. Yeah, it would be fucking sweet if I never had to set foot outside of my mansion except to go on a 5-city world tour to rake in another few million, but you know and I know that just isn't going to happen. I don't care. The only thing I want is to be able to do nothing but play music. It doesn't matter to me if I'm living in a downtown NY loft or in the back of a van in Lansing.
Low quality? Fuck that. Hell, I'll go FLAC if someone wants it. I'm all for using the internet to promote. I think right now we have something like 10 songs available at various places. But, and this is the entire crux of my argument, it should be OUR choice to do that. I urge you, and everyone around here shooting their mouths off, to go and check out the sites of some WORKING, TOURING, bands. Most, if not all, have songs available. That's where the overwhelming majority of my MP3's come from.
Well, when I'm dictator it will be legal to punch people in the face for doing stupid shit like that. Ought to help out a bit. Imagine a technician comes to your home, you tell them what's wrong and what you did... WHAM! A nice fist in the face. Hell of a deterrent, that.
I love it when smarmy cocks like you make comments regarding the amount of people at shows. It's called 'paying dues', dumbass. In one area you might draw 500 people to a show, but 100 miles away you bring in 5 people because nobody's fucking heard of you. In December, we hit the road for a couple of weeks on a west coast tour. We'll draw nothing. Nobody has heard of us out there. Here, we can pull 100+ without breaking a sweat. Regional support. Look it up.
I don't give a fuck about the money. Truth is, I have never made a dime of income off my music (I'm a guitar tech, that's how I make money). Anything that comes in as a result of shows or merch sales goes right back into the band. Tell me... exactly what attitude is it that I represent? You seem to know more about me than I do, so why don't you tell me? The thing is, if I could do like the guys in Jucifer and simply sell my house, buy an RV, and live in that while I travel around the country and make music I'd be fucking set for life. THAT is what I want. To be self-sufficient as a musician. Please, explain to me how this is in some way contradictory with your retard statements?
And again... once you are running as root.... how is this any different? It doesn't matter how many programs require you to do it. Anytime you are running as root, you are vulnerable. I'm still waiting for the first Linux 'screensaver' email to go around. "Simply run this as root and it will install the SUPER HAPPY 3D SCREENSAVER!" Meanwhile, it's just a script that says rm -rf *. I guarantee you it would hose a lot more people than you think.

You're an idiot, and quite obviously not a musician. Your frame of reference is only classical music... you're a stuck-up cunt... you wouldn't happen to be an audiophile, would you?
How about this... you quit your job and hit the road with a band. No, sorry, you don't get to go out with Britney Spears or anyone else that doesn't actually play an instrument. You have to go out with REAL, WORKING musicians. You have to sit in a van for 8-16 hours a day, load in and out, setup and breakdown, eat what they eat, sleep where they sleep. You have to hope to holy fuck that the cockmunch at the venue actually pays you the $150 that you are supposed to get because if you don't you have $15 in your pocket to feed five people and a van on the way to your next gig, 500 miles away. Where the FUCK does a cock like you get off telling ME what I can and can't do with what I make? Fuck you and every cuntrag that thinks like you. This is my LIFE, this is my PASSION, this is my JOB. FUCK. YOU. and your goddamned bullshit warped fucking world view. You want to know what REAL musicians do? Go the fuck outside. Go to a club. Talk to some of the bands that are playing. Would YOU drive a thousand miles to play for five people on a Thursday night?
What retards like yourself don't understand is that for MOST bands, CD sales are important. Not so they can buy new Mercedes and do blow off a hookers ass, but so they can fucking EAT while they're on the road.
Bullshit. I ran this computer right here sans virus protection, Ad-Aware, Spybot, Zone Alarm, or anything else even remotely resembling security software for the better part of a year and a half on the same connection as my parent's computers (router). They constantly get nailed with viruses and trojans and all manner of fun shit. I never did. User stupidity accounts for massive amounts of infections.
Because the OSS community is apparently so hard up for any kind of crack in MS's armor that something like this is IMMEDIATELY and IRREFUTABLY evidence that MS is going under because only companies that are in trouble would ever back out of a standards group...
Like the man said, it makes about as much sense as a screen door on a submarine. It is quite pathetic and I think it's truly sad to see such a large group of people get their collective undies in a knot over what amounts to nothing at all.
They gave back approximately $30 billion out of over $300 billion in assets. You're right, they're not growing at 20%. They're growing at 19%. Excuse the error.
We're talking about a company with a few hundred billion in the bank, that is growing at about 20% per year. I sincerely fucking doubt that they are in any way hurting financially, and I doubt even more that there is any writing on the wall except lame graffiti sprayed on by OSS advocates that seem to think losing 1% of the browser share among visitors to a tech site is an indication of failure.
On the other hand, why would they amass such a huge patent portfolio if they don't intend to use it? Perhaps just to ensure that nobody can use those silly patents against them? Hrm.
Exactly. Think IBM on this one. IBM has one of the largest patent portfolios out there, yet we don't see any of this moronic "OMG!!!!!11 IBM IS TEH D3y3ING!!oneone!!" BS.
Would that be my karma that constantly hovers on the good/excellent border despite all the *INTENTIONAL* flamebait I write? Yeah, that's really shitty. And please... nothing I write is worse than any of the other bullshit that's said on here.
Remington develops their own rifle round and has someone else manufacture it. Their contract with the manufacturer states the manufacturer can't make those bullets for another company. They do anyway. Hey, Lawsuit!
It's a contract dispute. This shit happens all the time. When you are handed a contract with specific stipulations not to do something, YOU DON'T FUCKING DO IT. That this is the MPAA is COMPLETELY irrelevant to anything. A contract is a contract, you don't fuck with it without answering for it.
I don't know why, but I get the feeling you're one of the people that runs around screaming "LINUX IS NOT AN OS! GNU/Linux is. One's just a kernel.", as if this fucking mattered in any way.
If you RTFM, the manufacturers were sued because their licenses prohibited them from selling their chips to non-CSS licensed buyers.
And how is that not a licensing issue? Maybe if your post was a reply instead of stand-alone it would make more sense... but this is just contradictory to a stupid degree. "They broke their license agreement... but it's not about licensing." WTF?

The Winamp programmers made a choice to use the IE shit, moron. If you're going to flame, at least be somewhat intelligent about it.

Again, to reiterate my point, FUCK YOU.
You listen to a lot of Joy Division, don't you?
"I'm such a non-confirmist I'm not going to conform with you guys. I'll do it."
Or maybe... IT'S A JOKE?
They're both 400-lb gorillas, it's just that right now IBM doesn't have its ass pointed at you, ready to unleash a pile of monkeydung on your head.
I have a script here that hoses your entire Linux system. All you have to do is run it as root.
rm -rf *
Please explain how this is different than any other program on any operating system being run as root.
Wow. So what this boils down to is that you have to be logged in as root in order to hose your system.
Someone please explain to me how this is different than Linux?
