You're right. You don't. You don't fucking matter in this dispute one tiny fucking bit. This is a contract dispute. Nothing more. Nothing less. Shit like this happens a dozen fucking times a day, only now it's something that the average dorkass Slashdotter cares about. No, goddammit, I'm not going to call it something else. I'm fucking sick of morons like you being pedantic cuntrags when it comes to the term 'piracy'. In case you don't fucking know, a word can have more than one goddamned meaning you fucking idiot. Then again, most Slashdotters are so fucking uptight I'd be surprised if they could parse the same sentence two different ways.

Slight correction, it's how the minority of society infect the majority of society. Fashion trends are a prime example. A small group of elitist pricks convince a larger group that they're not as cool because they don't wear the same clothes. The larger group, trying to fit in with the 'cool' people, jump on the bandwagon and start talking shit about things they themselves wore no more than a week ago. In general, this is healthy behaviour. When you get to the point where you're arguing over which fucking TEXT EDITOR is better you really need to go outside.

It goes hand-in-hand with the social ineptness of the typical geek. An inability to fit in with the majority of society gives way to a need to fit in with SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE, and the tools one uses are the most apparent thing. This doesn't apply only to geeks though. Think about the old woman with fifty cats, or the obsessive housewife that fills every room in her house with frickin' Beanie Babies despite not having any (or perhaps BECAUSE she doesn't have any) kids. Same thing, different level.

It would never happen. The GPL is anathema to software businesses. Every release you'd have some dickhead forking Windows, not for any sane technical reasons, but simply because they don't like MS. It's fucking stupid. A much more realistic, although still far from probability, would be MS adopting BSD but seeing as how they already have a solid kernel to work with I don't see where that would do them a fucking bit of good.
