The short version of what a lot of people are saying in this thread is that If you Can't Take care of your child then Don't Have one. The last thing we need is a lot of children growing up full of resentment because their parents were always too busy to play with them. If you want to have children then be prepared to slow your life down and sacrifice to take care of them, don't think you can just pop one out, send him off to day care and then show up at high school/college graduation to say hello.

I play muds, diablo 2, did play Everquest and Ultima Online. If my character got screwed up bad I got pissed because I had devoted TIME, even if it was only 20 minutes of my time it was 20 minutes that I couldn't get back. But at least I spent the time doing something that involved some form of mental activity as my recreation. I also get out with my friends and play M:TG with them, I also teach them martial arts. But None of that matters, the people that devoted hours of their lives to create those characters will have lost ALL of that time and have no more to show for it than if they'd spent the time watching TV. If you can't understand that then I guess you'll have to go back to your beer and your television and continue to wonder when we roleplaying losers will 'get lives'.

My main ant issues were with fire ants and army ants (Our army ants are WAY smaller than those big red fsckers y'all have in africa) and these was larvae called Cow Killers that are big ants. Now, fire ants almost always have a bunch of winged drones if you dig down a ways. I've seen some winged army ants too. So there are winged ants. 9. Common Sense Taxation on A Minor Political Screed · · Score: 2

I posted this down there somewhere in the chaos, but I decided to repost it up here where someone might read it. This is the way I think taxation should work:
    1 Person, 20K = No Taxes
    2 Person, 25K = No Taxes
    3 Person, 30K = No Taxes
    4+ Person, 35K = No Taxes

Any person or family where income is greater than the amount shown pays 15% or the amount neccessary to drop them to the top of their bracket, whichever is less. So 1 person making 20,025$ a year won't get screwed and have to pay 3 grand in taxes. Just 25$.
That way a family of 4 where one parent has a decent job making around 30K pays no taxes which will significantly add to their ability to take care of their children. This way the poor don't get shafted by taxes, and the rich aren't bearing the burden of a whole bunch of lazy bastards. I'm also in favor of removeing the current welfare system and impleneting a new system whereby current welfare recipients live in a policed apartment complex and are required to take 3 hours a day of job training. Are given a couple of sets of decent clothes, and are required to get a job in 6 months or out they go onto the street and someone who actually needs help instead of just wants to sit on their ass can come in.
    Comments are welcome.

I guess I should have put the emphasis on STUPID, not rich. I intend to be rich .I just don't intend to be stupid and amoral. My $2000 in luxury spending, or savings is less important than $200 a piece for 10 families to spend on food and necessities. This is why a flat tax is regressive it imposes a greater burden on those who are poorer because it is taking money from necessities, while the rich pay the same percentage, but that money comes form luxuries. A prograssive tax like we have now is fairer because the poorer person gets more money for the necessities while the rich person has to get the 20' boat instead of the 25' boat.

Quick fix, no income under 20K per year will be taxed, above that there will be a 15% flat tax for everyone. If you Still think that unfairly taxes poor families then do it this way.

    1 Person, 20K = No Taxes
    2 Person, 25K = No Taxes
    3 Person, 30K = No Taxes
    4+ Person, 35K = No Taxes

I don't think you were paying attention to the endeavour here. They are translating the muscle movement of the locust into steering for the vehicle. If they changed their method of input then it would be an entirely different experiment now wouldn't it!?
Now, as an excersise for you, go build an optical device that will measure the wing activity of an ANT well enough to tell which direction the thing wants to turn in, then harness an ant up to a little car without killing it in such a way that its wing motion is still discernable.

I don't really understand what the big deal is about this piece of expiriment/research. We all know that locusts don't fly into anything except lights and windows. They just tapped the signal the insect uses to steer... They could have used any other insect/animal that has some intelligence about direction and tapped it's muscles. The tapping of muscles is not new.

I think a useful option might be using ants because ants have a tendency to follow a sort of 'invisible path' left by the ant(s) before him -the ants leave some sort of chemical-. This could be used to steer vehicles along a certain path and that could be quite useful for unmanned vehicles in factories etc. . Although I'm not sure how an ant would respond to travelling at 30 km/h instead of 1 km/h ?

ok, let's see YOU plug an electrode into an ants ass.... Go ahead, try it!
The reason the used Locusts was clearly explained on the site if you had bothered to read it. Their nervous system is accesible (and the electrodes aren't bigger than the target organism).
