Do you mean that when the kids talk about their parents, that you don't want your kid hearing that Heather has two mommies? Or you don't want your kid hearing that Heather is still ok even though she has two mommies?
He does not believe that 2 women raising a child as a family unit is a proper environment, nor does he wish his child to be taught such. As a parent that is his right. And you can not flame him for his moral stance.
I had a look at the battlebots and robotwars websites. I haven't seen any actual competitions yet but it seems that the winners are always robots that try to immobilize the opponents by a "flipping or tossing" strategy - like the battlebots reigning champion - Biohazard.
An easy way to combat flippers is to have your Bot not care what side is up or down. Mine would be a large metal ball slung between two big tractor tires. I'd put a cutting device on it, and possibly some big ceramic magnets so it could clamp onto the competition and cut them apart. To avoid side flipping just put convex metal covers over the tires so that it keeps rolling. It would never lose to a flipper, but a smasher might take it down.
add me too, or did all of you play college football too?
Unfortunately I still had the shy, can't pick up a clue to save his life, persona until midway through college. Now I work all the time (my real job and hobbies would seem disturbingly similar to outsiders) and just don't usually make the effort.
BTW, Vacations at exotic locales are great for getting laid, but don't do much for long-term love-gettin'.
Wrestling and Martial Arts for me, I was never quite big enough for football, though I was invited to be the kicker for my highschool team because the coach saw me do some boardbreaks and stuff... I always prefered slightly less team oriented sports.
Okay, we've got the geek quotient to do it -- we just need Andover.net to sponsor the project and a few folks out there to kick in some time. Let's put together our own competitor for the Battle Bot scene!
count me in! I'm a hardware geek through and through. I didn't see whether they allowed projectile weapons or not though... I would guess no. How about something with a ton of ceramic magnets (Like from inside a hard drive) mounted on a couple of thick arms to lock it to its opponent, then a set of sawblades mounted under the body to carve the enemy up... To avoid those damn flippy bots we'd go into the light weight category and mount the body between 2 giant tractor tires so that it was suspended from the ground. Power it with a gocart engine or something similar... the hardest part would be to make sure that it could turn the wheels instead of just spinning itself around a lot.... Heck, I could probably build that with 500$.... >:)
Geeks are ugly. Or, more to the point, people who sit around all day doing softare or electrical design, aren't usually the sort who live in their bodies. They tend to live in their heads, and sod all with that bag of flesh down below.
I assume that you're referring to firearms control? If so, there's a problem with your analogy -- software patches are free, and weapons are not.
If all levels of weaponry were free, and none of them could be used for evil purposes, then your analogy would hold.

Ever accidentally patched your TCP/IP stack with a SCSI patch? I thought not. Ever missed a target with a bullet? I thought so.
This doesn't mean that your underlying point is equally flawed, but you'll need to elaborate on it a bit more . . .
first, not all software is free. Second, it is much easier to learn how to use a gun than learn how to effectively patch every security hole in your system. Most people who own computers don't have time to spend cruising BugTraq and downloading patches to keep their system secure up to the minute, if they did that they would never get anything else done on their system. Patches CAN screw up a system, one of the patches for my V3 screwed my sound card up, requiring me to get a second patch for my sound card, the V3 patch also screwed up my DVD player, which had no patch available, so no more DVD capability on my PC. No big deal to me, but still annoying.
Anyways, I'm drifting from my point... My first POINT is that if the meatspace cops can't protect me from some back alley mugger then why should we expect these guys to protect us from crackers? No, I'm not saying anybody else should do this. Just that I wish everybody would stop telling everybody how to spend their money. There are far more good causes than I know how to give to, so I pick and choose. I'm sure this is the norm, for those of us who give to charity
I agree completely with this since you are doing it because someone you loved died of the disease. But charities soliciting donations from everyone and then people saying how horrible it is for others to pick and choose their charities instead of giving to the one THEY favor is inane. I'll give to the people *I* care about, you give to the people YOU care about, and everyone that anyone cares about gets something. Amazing how that works isn't it...?

I have personally known people with these conditions, family members, neighbors, people I cared about. My FAMILY bands together to support itself, my COMMUNITY does the same. We don't go out searching for handouts and donations from everyone. If someone has cancer well that's just too bad, but they have friends, and relatives that can help them and should be helping them. My resources are devoted to helping people that I know and care about. And I'm afraid random charities that spend 50% of the money paying for their infrastructure aren't on my list.
However, I have to remind you that there are thousands of poor, homeless, destitute people around the world, dying in streets, suffering in refugee camps, and there are hundreds and thousands (no, that's not a gross over estimation ) of children orphaned by wars and natural disasters.
Each of those human beings is capable of making a choice as to how they live and what resources are available to them. The parents of the starving children chose to continue fucking like rabbits in order to spawn off a whole new generation of starving children. People in refugee camps are there by choice in one way or another, they can pick up and walk somewhere else. Yes, it's hard, no I doubt I'd be able to do it, but it can be done and they have that choice. The penguins have no such option. I for one have no sympathy for 90% of all poor/homeless/destitute people as I have seen people try to help over and over and over again and the person always ends up back in the gutter. Maybe the homeless in other countries aren't the laziest 3% of the population, but in the US the homeless aren't usually worth helping. Yes I'm a jackass, yes I'm a bastard, but I've tried helping these people and it doesn't work. At least the penguins don't smell like Wild Turkey when they stumble up to me. All of those orphaned children have relatives somewhere, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, that should be taking care of them. Sorry to burst your bubble, but the devices are not illegal under US law. They are only illegal if they are used as surveillance equipment and/or hidden in everyday objects like clocks and smoke alarms. The devices the agents confiscated are used for medical, recreation, and educational purposes every day and are legal in that use. They only become illegal when a customer does something illegal with them. Hence this company is innocent of wrong doing and will be proven so in court, but that will take 5 or 10 years and by that time they will likely have been forced out of business by the government.
2 Questions.
1. Where do I sign up?
2. How much content am I required to generate per payment cycle in order to get my share?
It seems like this model could reward people who produce very little content or content of very poor quality on an equal level as those who produce lots of content or content of an excellent quality. That doesn't seem right.
Did you READ the story? They paid, 3 checks they sent were cashed, the ISP asked for the 3 checks, then said they would look into the mistake, then cut them off without warning. Masslinux then did what they could to get back online, they could have done a better job of it but everyone is getting their page and data back, everyone is getting their money back, and Masslinux is GOING OUT OF BUSINESS. What the FUCK more do you want from them? They are BROKE, and you want to take them to court or have them investigated over something they couldn't control?!
To protest all of these people screaming about the guy putting his all advantage info into his SIG I'm putting mine into the body of a Post which starts at 2 and will take 3 moderator points to get rid of. So there.

The Romans would sheath their battle sword, pull out this short sword, and chase down the enemy from behind, using the "Pike" to stab the anus and genitals of the fleeing enemy, leaving the injured to a slow painful death by infection.
A Pike is an entirely different weapon. A Pike is similar to a PoleArm or Spear, usually they would be set slightly buried in the ground butt first by foot soldiers to discourage horsemen from charging their lines. Traditionally these foot soldiers would be backed up by Archers or Crossbowmen, during a siege the Catapults would be behind them, and beyond that on a hill would be the commander of the army with runners and signal flags or mirrors.
A sincere FUCK OFF to you. MassLinux is refunding the money that they have recieved from customers for which they will not be able to render service. They got shafted by their provider and did the best they could to fix it. These people were doing a service to the community and making very very little money from it. So stop bitching.
