    By "this" did you mean the article, which discusses that "sections on Tcl, emacs, and awk" have disappeared and that they have been replaced on sections about .NET and the latest versions of perl and Java?

    I have a serious question for you. If you bought this book, would you actually read it?

    People who talk about Windows 98 "BSOD's" discredit themselves.
    The helpful screens in Win9x that pop up to tell you about unresponsive applications, VxD driver failures, etc. might as well count as BSoDs because they are blue and invariably spell impending doom anyway.

    Totally agree with your careful conclusion.

    For the same reason, although we think Halo would be fun as fuck running on 16+ monitor screens, my friends and I have opted instead to take real sniping lessons, and buy a warthog.

    So you are using the average of the times measured between deployment of hardware and individual drive failure, as opposed to the mean time between failures of individual drives, i.e. the mean time between necessary hardware replacements, which is what I would have thought more useful for evaluating hardware.

    I would have called your average "mean time to failure" vs. "mean time between failures."

    But as other posters mentioned, most of these stats are marketing bunk no matter how they're computed!

    I was with you up until this line when you gave yourself away as just another "I drive better than anyone else" fuckwit who thinks that running in SCCA tournaments and knowing what the traction circle is makes him road lord.

    Here's a tip from someone who was where you were mentally about 15 years ago: On the street, there is an absolute limit to how good a driver you can be because you ultimately cannot predict what other people are going to do no matter your "experience." That being said, throwing your own dick-swinging driving style into the mix is driving on borrowed time.

    Cheers, and regards to any family you might prematurely abandon while driving better than the rest of us :-D

    We find it to be an improvement over simple shell tools for typical cluster administration tasks.

    I am by no means a Jazz afficionado but if you can get your hands on the 5-volume Smithsonian Collection of Classic Jazz, you will get a good, broad introduction from ragtime to "free jazz" and will be better equipped to figure out what artists/eras you want next to explore.

    The collection appears to be out of publication but I would suspect a local library or eBay could help out.

    You can google for a track list in a number of places.
