While I'll agree that many emotions are based on fear/need... I don't understand how you can seperate admiration from respect in the way that you do... I fear no man, but there are people who I 'respect' for the way they conduct their lives. There are people I can't stand on a personal opinion level (meaning I do not admire them overall), but yet the way they conduct themselves is respectful, so in turn I respect them. It all depends on your definitions I suppose...
A virus can be complex if someone wants it to be, it has nothing to do with bringing down the entire internet. I don't keep up with viruses, but I'm sure there are quite a few out there (especially from the old days) that are pretty clever and complicated.
I don't know why someone would do phd thesis work on a wonder virus. Maybe they would if they had a nice idea that really interested them?
It seems more like there's a blend of the hacker/cracker definitions here... I mean what exactly do you call a hacker who sometimes uses his/her knowledge for cracking?;) Complex viruses seem to be a bit more than 'cracking'.
So you're saying that less people will use weapons due to the fact that they can't just go to XYZmart without reading a website first? Symantec's filters aren't doing a thing to stop firearms from getting into people's hands, and they know it. Besides, places like the NRA are NOT weapons stores. They are organizations composed of people who value the right to own firearms.
This is not Symantec saying guns are bad. it's Symantec saying that if you like the ability to own a firearm, you shouldn't have your voice heard. I'm constantly hearing from people that we should protect the rights of pedophiles and be all anti-patriotbillgarbage because it's a 'slippery slope' or something, but I rarely hear those same people speaking out against this type of censorship.
Do you watch O'Reilly often? I catch a couple episodes a week if I'm not busy during that timeslot, but I rarely see him just go off on someone unless they were just being totally out there... I know who Jeremy Paxman is, and I don't see his toughness being a whole lot different from Bill O'Reilly other than O'Reilly has more of a human personality. Also, O'Reilly gives everyone the same grilling, so I don't know what the point in mentioning that is. I've seen him get angry at both conservatives and liberals alike... You can't really judge him based on a few episodes where someone you agreed with lost an argument with him.
Uh.. Just because your dad dies, that doesn't instantly make you correct. I believe everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it is a debate show afterall. At no time has O'Reilly said that you can get on the show and state your opinion without argument from him. It's just aggressive interviewing. I guess if you don't like it, that's your thing, but as for me, I don't want Oprah-style garbage... I wouldn't just watch FNC myself though, I tend to get my daily news from around 5-10 sources, but FNC is great if you want to sit down and watch an aggressive debate.
We can tell you're liberally biased, but what you just stated says nothing about how FNC is biased. You also left out the names of the admittedly liberal/democrat hosts they employ. Leave out that O'Reilly often criticizes both republicans and democrats, agrees with all different perspectives, and is always giving people time to speak.. When he does yell, he has a reason for it.. It's called, keeping morons from spewing incorrect/offtopic bs. Anyways, just because you want to believe republicans are always wrong and FNC is biased, doesn't make it so. Just because they don't say what you want them to, doesn't make them biased.
Well, you could always get some completely uninterested person from some obscure foreign country and give them a polygraph and such.. Something doesn't seem right about that though. In any case, unless you have a good reason to think the person is going to fix the vote, I don't see why a person cannot be trusted just because of their political affiliation. Getting back to the quote though, if the memo had said something obviously biased towards one party then I might see some of the outrage, but this was an obvious quoted joke about voting in general. Then again, I just think all of the systems should be totally open to heavy review and such so that it wouldn't matter anyway...
Diebold is not coming out and saying your vote doesn't matter. If you want to hate Diebold, that's fine and dandy, but individuals do have the right to make a stupid harmless joke from time to time. This wasn't even a joke he came up with.. It's a quote.. By the way, if someone wants to put a political ad in their own personal signature, why the hell not? Just because you work at diebold doesn't mean you lose your right to political opinion.
I find it ironic that you bring up Iraq. Without free speech we'd be a hell of a lot more like Iraq than we would be without voting. That's not even mentioning that an employee's sig doesn't do a damn thing to your right to vote for who you want.
Uhm.. Buddy.. This wasn't an email to the voters okay? These memos and such were not intended to be professional documents. Also, I'd bet you $50 that undertakers DO joke about dead people in private.. We all joke about our work when we're talking to other people within the profession, whether you're an engineer, programmer, doctor, undertaker, teacher, cop, fireman, or whatever.. Lighten up, stressing over jokes isn't going to get you anything but a heart attack.
I've heard doctors joke about both those things (after the patient already understands the situation of course) so I'm hoping you were being sarcastic.. If not, then you just don't know/haven't gone to school with many people in the medical profession. Also.. I care more about surgery than I do democracy.. This isn't a worker coming out on live tv and saying voting doesn't matter! This is an in-house joke.
The sig quote has nothing to do with the guy being a 'bonehead' or whatever. Come on, some of the most professional and skilled people make stupid jokes about their job. Haven't you ever had a doctor or a surgeon say something stupid to you for a laugh? We don't go oh my god, this guy's a bonehead... We just laugh, it's meant to lighten us up. At least, those of us with a sense of humor would...
If someone gets really bored and has nothing better to do.. Why not? but then again.. Really.. Who cares what 'college computer science people' are learning? I don't see the point in having to support every language out there.. The thing is, there are so many other projects that talented coders could be working on =/
Yes, but there isn't really the equivalent to single-sitting films in the game market.
I beg to differ, but in any case the point is that's what you imply you want to have happen.
Oh great, I express a preference and I get fucking insulted. Clearly you do not have the mental capacity to grasp alternate points of view. I shall spell it out for you: quantity != quality./1984/ is not an inferior book to/War and Peace/ despite being about 1/10 of the length.
Quit your whining. Also, I said why not have quality and quantity. I never said long games are automatically great.
Excuse me? What part of my writing do you not like? By the way, ellipses are conventionally written with three dots and your post makes little sense with 'could care less' - it should be 'couldn't care less'.
It was a joke, and if you noticed I said about as bad as me, which indicates that I myself am not that great. You really do whine more than a little kid. Couldn't care less makes about as much sense as could care less. Ellipses can have as many dots as I want. I'm sure you felt so good about yourself for getting back at me, eh? You seem like you need to feel good, so I'm happy for you.
Such as?
So you're saying most new games are either long and dilluted or short and dilluted? Okay..
Because I like to have a chance to finish them. My time is limited and I simply do not have enough of it to play games for 20+ hours.
You don't play them for 20 hours in a row for one thing, but oh well.. It's your money and if you want to spend $60 for a couple hours of entertainment, I think you're stupid, but okay.
So, any complaint that a film is too long is irrelevant because no one has to watch it to the end?
Well.. No one's going to sit in a theater all day to watch an all day movie, yet you can get most anyone to play game, save game, play game, save game, repeat for a week until done.. As far as the movie analogy.. Well, if people weren't willing to do something similiar we wouldn't have had any successful miniseries things.. Not to mention.. A person can enjoy one or two of the Star Wars movies without having to watch them all to see how it ends..
Suggestion.. If you care more about getting the storyline over quickly than you are interested in experiencing the game.. Well.. Why don't you try going to the library and picking up a children's book? They're usually pretty short and have interesting conclusions. Not to mention that with a book you can skip ahead if you get tired.
I would personally prefer shorter games, with less dilute content. There aren't any of these around however, so it's hard to gauge what the public want.
Sad.. You write about as bad as me.. Did english class get boring? Was it too long?;) Kidding aside.. There are plenty of short games with 'less dilute content' out there. The problem is, I could care less how original the content is if I can beat the game in a few minutes and then have no desire to ever play it again. Why not have longer games with less dilute content? If they're going to charge us out the ass anyway, at least make it worth it.. If I wanted 2 hours of entertainment I can think of cheaper ways to get it..
While that's great and such.. What on earth does that have to do with their ability to properly run a server? We're not talking about giving someone a college degree here.. Random knowledge really just says to me that the person got bored and looked it up.. I mean I'm good at a lot of things I don't know the history of. It's not that I don't care about history, it's just that since when do you have to be fanatical about something to get a job? I'm glad all of my job interviews left out the trivia questions, or else I'd never have gotten any of the jobs I had fun and did very well at..
Yes my brother, the government only lies to us! Rise up against the system! The only people who know anything are the ones that say Bush is an idiot! The military is evil! Oh, and basic elementary school english is for dumb losers! It's all bullshit!
People might respect your opinions if you didn't present them like you're mentally retarded.
Ahh... Just like a telemarketer to post in such a way that no one can know who you are;) I have an idea.. If the telemarketing companies don't like the do not call list, let's just make it fair. When you call, I want to know your first name, last name, address, home phone number, and also a little family and purchase history information.
You'll be hearing from me whenever I want to sell my car or have a yard sale.. Or when I just want to conduct a poll to see what you'd possibly be interested in when I do have a yard sale.
Oh, and I hope you don't mind, but I have 5-10 friends who would like me to sell them that personal information...
After he puts his pants back on...

A VB virus that depends on dumb users to click on it is not a "complex virus".

Guess you just thought wrong, eh? What gave you the idea that they're *mostly* republicans anyway?
Oh yeah, what is this "lieing" you speak of? I can't seem to find it in my dictionary...

Amusing show of how long-time slashdotters (meaning the people with mod points) are biased though.
Posting bullshit like that really shows how much better you are than the Americans. I think you should take the advice in #7.

I'd mod you up if I had points, and I'd add you to my friends list if I knew who you were. Good post.
