An interesting historical footnote: After the Marieletos (Cuban refugees who illegally entered the US via a mass boatlife - predominantly made up of crminally mentally ill that Castro helped onto those boats) entrance in the US, the murder rate went up over 90% on the Eastern Seaboard - which the DOJ directly attributed to those Marieleto criminally insane....
Excellent point - but let us examine recent history in the USA: Monsanto (and others) is reported to be using viral DNA in their GMO agricultural products - the type of DNA which can insert itself into human DNA. Rumsfeld (a k a Rumsfeldstiltskin, one of the Gang of Four) is Secretary of Defense for a number of years, who appoints individuals with ties to the pharmaceutical and biosci industry to positions there (Rumsfeld also has past ties to those industries, along with ABB, and formerly with Red Flag Software, and presently with Gilead Sciences). Now the DOD is using blood banks around the country as vehicles to collect Americans' DNA samples - ever wonder why??????
I believe my fellow symbolic analysts will quickly note the obvious pattern....
Forgive a former M$ (Redmond campus) contractor's learned pessimism, but what version of Windows OS DID NOT contain code to disrupt some, or any (especially the Apple guys), competitors' apps???? Hullo???
I'll bet you happened to view the same WTO in Seattle documentary I did, where a typical idiot and WTO delegate (from America, 'natch) is arguing with a protester, and proclaiming that Bill Gates "invented the Internet to feed the poor."
SHEEEESH!!!!
Seriously though, that list MUST include The Woz (Steve Wozniak - or Steve #1). And, of course, the inclusion of Doug Englebart should be a no-brainer. And anyone who lists Ann Winblad on any list should be seriously discounted......
A French government official, commenting on the release of classified government data regarding UFO sightings over that country's airspace, said: "We are keeping an open mind about the existence of extraterrestrials."
The Extraterrestrials reponse: "We have a closed mind about the existence of intelligent life on planet Earth!"
And I for one would humbly add, "Go ahead, Jim, buy that Mac, live a little, dood, and after you've stroked that Mac a bit, perhaps go back and try and fondle Windows XP and find out the true meaning of MAJOR DISAPPOINTMENT!
I think the crucial word in the surrounding story is Texas...Texas, y'all.
In Texas - stupidity is the norm - look who they elected for their last governor? I've never met an intelligent Texan - do they actually exist (and yes, I was there several times during military training)? From time-to-time some really stupid question is posed on/. by someone from Texas regarding the social mores of Texas and its ilk. I believe the last was from some dork at Trinity College - college of choice of retarded neocons (and hopefully, the sons of soon-to-be convicts [i.e., Karl Rove and company]). Texas is a really stupid and bizarre universe unto its own - and no, the company can't do that - but then all they have to do is buy any of the numerous for-sale-judges in that sorry state.......Texans - last to serve in the military, first to claim to be patriots (H. Ross Perot, did NOT fulfill his complete military obligation...George Weasel Bush, did NOT fulfill his military obligation, deserter and AWOLee, and described by his fellow members of the Texan ANG as a coward and goof-off.)
Thanks for the most intelligent, pithy and pointed comment. Rand's embracing of certain philosophies, and her lack of comprehension of particular aspects of what a democracy is supposed to be, as opposed to a quasi-capitalist system, is typical of the thinking of many Soviet emigrees - Cathy Young, a reprinted columnist who was born under a different name in the old Soviet Union, is a perfect example.....
Aptly put - I recall reading Ayn Rand around the age of 13 years and even then realized it was the product of a misinformed individual.....

Extremely well articulated, Citizen Atilla Dimedici (great name, BTW)!!
The best records in congress are held by Rep. Kucinich, Senator Sherrod Brown, Senator Russell Feingold, and as always, Senator Bernard Sanders of Vermont.....(Although I am glad to see a fellow Vietnam veteran, Hegel of Ohio, finally retracted his head out of his butt and is finally seeing the light on the illegitimate and unlawful invasion and occupation of Iraq - WHERE THE HELL IS OSAMA - hiding in the Bush family basement????)
Doesn't that mean Bush should also stop hunting Bin Laden? I mean, he hasn't crashed any airliners into skycrapers for years now.
Actually, Bush has never been hunting for that old family friend of his, Osama bin Laden. If you recall from the news several years ago, a Delta team was ordered to stand down by Central Command when they thought they had spotted bin Laden at Tora Bora. They then witnessed Soviet-made, Pakistani military helicopters fly in and retrieve him and his entourage.
Latter, upon returning to the USA, one or more of that Delta team tipped off reporter Seymour Hersh, who reported this story. Strangely (and "coincidentally" as the "coincidence theorists" would claim) enough, all the members of that Delta team inexplicably committed suicide...if they were married, they first murdered their wives, then committed suicide...if single, they just committed suicide. Very curious, indeed. (It was reported in the American corporate McNews, either intentially or incompetently, that some of these men were Delta and some were army special forces. Delta is US Army Special Forces Special Detachment Delta.)
Kind of reminds one of that recent event in the news where five soldiers were claimed to have died in battle, then the government has revised their "story" to state that "insurgents," dressed like American security contractors, speaking with American accents, armed with American ordnance, did in fact execute these five soldiers - wonder what those soldiers happened to stumble upon......
[Special for the Coincidence Theorists: George H.W. Bush, enjoying dinner with the family of the assassin who attempted to kill Ronald Reagun the next day - George H.W. Bush, enjoying breakfast with the head of the bin Laden family on 9/11/01. George H.W. Bush, enjoying brunch in Dallas with (fired by John F. Kennedy) former CIA director Dulles, his (also fired) assistant director, and the asst. director's brother, the mayor of Dallas on that day JFK was assassinated.]
The feds argue that the case is now moot because they are now obtaining warrants from the FISA court, and furthermore President Bush did not renew the warrantless program.
So..their arugment comes down to: we are no longer committing this crime and breaking laws, so therefore you should drop all activity to prevent us from doing so in the future and making us pay the legal penalties for our lawbreaking!!! Hmmmm......is there any half-wit or twit out there or would dare argue that this is even remotely related to jurisprudence????? [Be forewarned, I am a descendant of the Dutch-American reporter who first coined the term shyster to describe corrupt politicians and lawyers. (Shyster: a nickname for individuals in NYC who went behind the horse-drawn carriages and cleaned up the horse poop.)]
An interesting mention about that horrendous FBI op against Reverent King --- as actions have consequences, since those criminal FBI types were never prosecuted (probably promoted like Frasca and Maltbie) I wonder how many other bad types they brought into the Bureau??? Traitors like Hanssen? Criminals who sold out the citizenry and were responsible for murders by supplying criminal organizations with sensitive and confidential data? Those responsible for the attempt extermination of the Weaver family at Ruby Ridge??? (No, I don't hold with such beliefs, but nor does it give certain factions within the US government the right to assassinate members of the electorate.)
And did those bad FBI types eventually bring into the Bureau those clowns who ignored all those detailed tips preceding the attacks of 9/11/01.....
Great point, Citizen Tadrith. Besides, why substitute something for the excellent flavor of Caffe Vita, Caffe Umbria, and Santa Cruz Dark blends????

Good point! As everyone should know, M$ has some expensive and sizable patent law firms on retainer which patent every word mumbled by them (and believe me, I'm not exaggerating) plus does all those numerous prior art searches - yet somehow M$ still manages to patent existing items......
It's interesting, I would have guessed the same amount as the very last time I was monitoring my own home machines when I went online (I no longer go online from home since a year ago) my machines were polled and invaded 251 times the first 1 and 1/2 minutes. But since the advent of Total Information Awareness, i.e., NSA, NGA and 67 commercial databases under contract to the feds, we are now REALLY living in a "Enemy of the State" (that Will Smith flick) reality......
Excellent post, Lumpy, but I guess all those H-1Bs, H-2Bs, L-1s, O-1s, P-1s, etc., and all those IT people working for American Benedict Arnold corps overseas (India, China, Philippines, Ghana, Nigeria, Eastern Europe) better get their heads out of their butts and start doing a lot more innovative stuff.....
The funny thing is (funny, that is, to us thinking people, User 956) that they have all the money they need to do this.
After all, the Bush Administration continuously borrows extraordinary sums from the Chinese government to buy war materiel from the Chinese Red Army-owned factories (along with Wall Mart and Sam's Club, and various other retailers [Nordstrom, The Gap, etc.]) for the occupation of Iraq (and no doubt, the soon-to-be nuclear strike on Iran!). Perhaps not coincidentally, the newest foreign affairs advisor to Bush/Cheney is Henry Kissinger, a paid registered foreign agent to the government of China for many, many years (along with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia).
Now...I suppose all those "coincidence theorists" out there would have a logical answer for this.......
No fair injecting honest and fact-based comments into this discussion, Citizen turing_m. If that Immortal, Bill Gates, wants to create another project on his MS Project, so be it.....
A thousand thanks, jake73, for such an intelligent, articulate and insightful post - and sooooo right on target. Critical thinking skills, especially in the engineering and sciences disciplines, is crucial both to the existence and progress of any society.....
Didn't the US government (the Bushies, Bushwackos, etc.) spend $1.1 trillion on their War on Terror and finally get that dastardly Osama bin Laden???? Or did they.......
Oh, well, here goes.....(the true explanation for the popularity of the Mac, etc.)
Windows XP: As anyone familiar with the Greek language knows, X and P are the first two letters for the Greek word, Kristos, or Christ; with XP used as a frequent abbreviation. Now, is it a coincidence that the Neochristian or Pseudochristian Reich (Bush Administration) came into power the same time as Windows XP hit the market? I think not!!! And why they are referred to as a Reich? The obvious Nazi connections: Bush's grandfather, Prescott, had some of his assets seized by the FBI during World War II for helping to finance the Nazi Third Reich; Karl Rove's grandfather was the head of the regional Nazi Party in Germany during WWII; Donald Rumsfeld's relatives fought on the side of the Third Reich, and Dick Cheney does a hellacious impression of Goebbels at those crazy Neocon parties.
Mac OS X: As anyone familiar with Latin knows, OS is Latin for mouth. Many mistakenly believe the "X" is meant to be the unknown variable from mathematics or OS #10. Wrong! Actually, "X" means love (as in X O X O - love and kisses). Now, as most of you know, guys practise mouth-love on their wives or girlfriends. Please note I said wives OR girlfriends --- not wives AND girlfriends. Amorality will not be tolerated. (For amorality, please refer to the previous entry under Windows XP.) The conclusion is obvious: Mac OS = Sexy, Windows XP = Nazis. [Official disclaimer: This heavy cognition and deep thought was the result of kicking back with the guys for an all-night drinking session at Princeton Community College for Miscreants, with Rolling Rock and General Tsingtao being the preferred brews.]
