Okay, I follow, so we can expect a giant knee-jerk anti-Google wankfest for every Google-phone story, right? Cause that's sure as hell what we get with every mention of the iPhone around here.
"4K x 2K is shorthand for 4,000 lines wide by 2,000 lines high, or roughly four times the resolution of a 1080p display."
Exactly how does that statement express, in any way, that 4k video is "two" times 1080 HD resolution? It actually says "four times" right there on the page.
Well, it is 2x the width of HD, but it is absolutely 4x the resolution, or 4x the total area, of HD. It's not a matter of opinion. It's bloody 3rd grade math.
I read it as the company bought future development, which will be closed. You can't close development that's already open, but you can use that existing development in a commercial product, provided you satisfy th licensing of it.
At the risk of inciting a flamewar, can you explain why you so hate Firefox 3.x's URL bar? I just typed in "s" and I got a drop-down list of 5 sites that I use on a daily basis that all begin with "www.s...". What should else should it do? Its an honest question -- I really want to know what's so wrong with it. Thanks.
"a 10-minute HD video taken on August 24th with a Canon Vixia HF20 HD camera suspended from a 1500g hydrogen balloon and launched near Edmonton, Alberta. This is the first known amateur video taken from this height â" 107,145 feet."
I never said anything about "good". And, FYI, Mapelthorpe is long dead, so he doesn't give a rats ass if people buy the photographs. Oh, and that's not a woman.
I'm not really interested in debating art here. Regardless of your personal feelings about it, it's a fact this his work is very well-known, and should be no cause for excitement on Slashdot.
He's only one of the most famous photographers in history. Jesus, if you haven't seen that image before, maybe it's time to move out of mom's basement and get an apartment. Or at least go visit an art museum once in a while.
Actually, there's like two Apple 'tard posts, and like 150 posts from Apple haters like you who come out in droves to jack off over every negative Apple story on/.
The puzzling thing is that almost every Apple-hate post goes on about how many Apple fanboys there are here, when it's like 90% Apple hate.
No you haven't, because your configuration database is keyed by hardware serial number. Who keys an asset database by some changeable variable like machine name? Duh.
I knew, and yet I clicked anyway. Damn you!

So, you're saying it's even more impressive, given that it's 46% of such a large pool?
Can't wait to see how the huge anti-iPhone mob around here spins this. I'm guessing they will take the "iPhone is for conformist fags" approach.
Place your bets!
I, for one, have been getting my hole plugged by Microsoft for a good twenty plus years now.
So sore.
I saw this on Google News yesterday, and I figured, "Huh, must have missed that on /."
Ah well, let the shitstorm begin.
Are you fucking dense? From the page:
"4K x 2K is shorthand for 4,000 lines wide by 2,000 lines high, or roughly four times the resolution of a 1080p display."

Sorry, you're just plain old full of shit.
Someone should tell hdmi.org that they're not in "the industry" then, because they clearly refer to 4k as four times the resolution of 2k:

Who do you work for, so we can all make sure NOT to hire you?
What is the "resolution" of 1080 HD? Would you say it's "1920", or would you say it's "1920x1080"?
Well, it is 2x the width of HD, but it is absolutely 4x the resolution, or 4x the total area, of HD. It's not a matter of opinion. It's bloody 3rd grade math.

In other words, this will be a closed fork.
What if the n00b is in the forest? Does anyone hear the n00b fart?
Isn't it more a weapon of mass collection?
totally fucking stupid

I wonder how much out-cry there was when Apple introduced the dock bar or whatever it's called. Not even being a mac user, I have no idea.
Oh dude, it was ugly.

This is more or less a dupe.
Okay:

Uh, what? Re-read the thread, "dude".
