  1. Constant Planning on It's Not Developers Slowing Things Down, It's the Process · · Score: 1

The project planning, then replanning, then forecasting, then reforecast, then burndown, then plan the next sprint, then perform a retrospective on the last sprint, then update your work items, then explain the deviations, then participate in the daily scrum, then attend the weekly project status. Oh yeah, then do a little bit of the work you've been churning over for the last month. Planning is fine but the point of development is to create solutions. Not plan to create solutions.

  2. Re:Where is capitalism when you need it? on Kansas To Nix Expansion of Google Fiber and Municipal Broadband · · Score: 1

Communism and Capitalism both have some things in common. Not only do they both begin with the letter C, but they are both "great ideas" and neither ever actually happen.

A truer sentence was never written. That is perfect.

Thanks for the info, Slashdot. If I can get an adequate salary working from home, I'm outta here.

The point of the article is you don't get a "salary". You also don't get benefits.

  5. The Unincorporated Man on The Man Who Sold Shares of Himself · · Score: 3, Insightful

A great read by Dani Kollin and Eytan Kollin about the distant future where everyone is incorporated and the one man who isn't. It might have been helpful if this guy had read that before his IPO.

I fail to see what Wesley Snipes has to do with this. I'm assuming you are referring to the Cash Money Brothers from New Jack City. Wait, are you saying Wesley Snipes is God?

  7. MIT is doing it wrong on MIT Investigating School's Role In Swartz Suicide · · Score: 1

The time to reflect on their actions was before their actions contributed to the "death of this promising young man". Now they're just trying to save face.

  8. Get rid of the phone but keep the number on Ask Slashdot: Do You Still Need a Phone At Your Desk? · · Score: 1

We use Lync as a phone system at my company. I have both a wireless headset for use at my desk and a USB for when I'm traveling. My phone number follows me wherever I go. Anybody can call the number and it rings wherever I'm signed in.

  9. XP is almost 4 times older than a 3 year old... on Are Windows XP/7 Users Smarter Than a 3-Year-Old? · · Score: 1

...and I've been using it that long. No kidding it might take me longer to adapt than a 3 year old. I've been using vi for decades too. Does that mean I'm not that bright if it takes a little longer for me to get used to emacs than someone who's brand new. The premise of this argument is more than flawed. It's asinine.

  11. Not very surprising results on Retro Browser War: IE6 Vs. Netscape In 2011 · · Score: 2

As the article mentions, IE6 is still used by millions of users. Website designers still try to retrofit at least some of their functionality to work w/ this ancient scourge. You don't hear anybody trying to make sure their website will work with Netscape.

You're describing instant runoff voting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instant-runoff_voting This is a great way to allow you to vote for third party candidates without "throwing your vote away". If we had used IRV in the 2000 elections Gore would have won by a mile as most of the Greens would have ranked Nader first and Gore second.
