As slashdot has reported before the iBOT is Very good at balancing, you can sit in it and it'll hold you up right all by itself, quite impressive. If they can do it with an iBOT theres nothing to say they can't do it with this. Although working with wheels is a lot easier than an exoskeleton. Its just a mathmatics in the end and whether the skeleton can respond fast enough. Interresting point, I look forward to seeing how well it balances.
Also checkout Asimo which shows brillant balance technology, being able to stand on one leg and compensate if its pushed.
Like calculating PI to the most possible decimal places, or prime number calculations? The only problem with these is its hard to spread the processing power, but with games theres lots of dfiferent things to spread, like graphics, sound, AI so you can take advantage of the cluster where as calculating decial places can require one machine in a cluster to finish before another can start, thus being a bad test.
If you're using this system for security why would a hotel need to store what underware you have or which condoms you bought? I think you've missed the point. It's a good idea to deter criminals, not track people, if that what it would be used for, i'd disagree with it.
BTW, hmmm.... your right, i did refer to "anal", oh yeah once, gotta get my fixation under control.
I didn't say I agreed with the current system, what I'm saying is I'll welcome a system which follows the rules I said. If they don't delete data and disable tags I'm against it. But as an idea its good, just needs to be clear about what happens after you leave the store.
This is why I said it will only be good if the points i mentioned are met, and that obviously keeping photos or information on you is not desired. Agreed there must be a law or legislation to ensure that things are handled properly i.e deleted to a standard where by data cannot be recovered.
I don't know about Sweden but in the UK I've been in lots of shops with CCTV, any major superstore has them. So whats the difference? In fact they're everywhere, you get the in shopping complexes and on the streets.
If companies don't comply with standards they'd face huge fine, let alone the general public sueing them. The short of it is if you don't want to be photoed, go buy your rasors else where. But be safe in the knowledge that if the company used your data for the wrong reasons or without your knowledge they wouldn't have a leg to stand on
Do you agree its a good idea, if they follow a standard and its checked? and you can sue if its not folled blah blah blah the Yanks would be pleased.
See it like this, if it was to work it would work like this. When you go to product X which has a tag on it, there is a sign to tell you. You take the product in the knowledge you will be photographed. You are photographed, you pay for the product, the tag is disabled (by whatever device) and your picture is deleted.
What the hell is wrong with that??!?! If you aren't going to steal the product who cares if your picture is on some database for 30mins while you shop. Personally I'd like to see this scheme, if it means that some twat with a knife will think twice before trying to steal a load of razors or whatever I welcome it.
It's only anal people that can't handle the fact that someone wants to take a picture of them for security purposes, If your not going to steal the damn thing you shouldn't care. Lets face the fact you're on someone else's property therefore they have the right to survalliance and to enfore security where needed. Razor blades are one of the biggest problems as far as criminals are concerned and anything to reduce theft is good.
So people you know who you are stop being so up your own ass and help the supermarkets reduce crime and potential risks to yourself. If a crim isn't in a supermarket theres no way they can cause you personally a problem.
I understand the issues of leaving tags on or storing pictures of people for longer than needed, which is why I believe this scheme will be excellent as long as photos get deleted upon purchase and that the tags are disabled after leaving the store. Anyone who thinks theres something wrong with that has issues, serious issues (probably self-image and insecurity isses;).
Hey I didn't say I watched the films;) We've downloaded so much stuff we don't have time to watch it. The point is I wouldn't pay money for the movies cause I'm only going to watch them either once or only the first 15mins then delete it cause its crap. We have a load of dl'd movies, that we've then gone out and got the DVDs cause we think they're worth the money. It's not that we don't want to buy films, its we don't want to buy shit films.
I guess we use P2P as a sort of testing bed for films, watch it, if its good buy it, if not trash it. Equally though we do own some real crap DVDs, we goto the local Exchange place and if we see a DVD thats like $1.99 we buy it, even if its crap, just cause its cheap, because we believe that its ok to pay $1.99 for a crap film, but not $20!! I'm willing to pay $30 for LOTR Two Towers when it comes out, as it'll have a hell of a lot of extra stuff, like 40mins extra footage, now that is worth paying for, not a film with no menus and no extras thats a rubbish film anyway,
selective purchasing or selective pricing? I know which sells more!
All the people who say "Don't buy CDs or go to the Cinema etc" are fooling themselves, the more they don't spend on the industry they are just proving the Record/Movie association right!
I still buy CDs/DVDs and goto the Cinema, why they hell wouldn't I? watching a Film at home isn't the same as the Flicks, I don't care what TV you have. When LOTR Two Towers came out my and 15 of my mates went to see it at the Odeon London Leicester Square (Biggest Screen in the UK) Us and the other 2000 where in that screen, man, what an experience.
The Industry will learn that they can still make good sales with P2P if they just lower their price, not shut down the networks. I've downloaded moveis that I would NEVER buy, I wouldn't have bought them even before P2P was around, so the RIAA or whatever can't claim that for every movie we download they are losing that much money, cause thats a stupid statement, are they saying that in my house (5 students) we would have spent like 10000 on movies?!?!?! yeah get real.
Don't deprive yourself to prove a point that's counter-productive

No wonder they made it to work when its damaged if they're throwing them out of planes!
Thats right along with Hotmail it's just a matter of time till M$ decide you need to PAY to use the services. It seems hotmail keeps losing features everyday, until eventually you won't even be able to read e-mails with it unless you pay... I can see IM going the same way, then it wouldn't matter which client you use, you'd still need a subscription.
It's ok though, they'll say its for security reasons, I mean, if everyone's paying, it MUST be secure, right?
Good idea, I only hope the links take you somewhere with the information you need, like I said, the articles always seem to miss out what your looking for (like missing out win2k3 on the QB about this worm).
Everyone moans that Windows users are stupid because the update was issued ages ago, and theres been however many notices about it on ZDNET and./ yet still loads of people haven't patched.
Wanna know why, lots of people don't read./ everyday and perhaps, maybe just a little,./ has a strong *NIX community base?? don't know where I get that idea from but it kinda suggests that not every windows user will see the article, besides it's boring having to read security notices, then follow the link to M$ only to find that you have to scour the site for the Actual download you want because you somehow arrived at the non-Japanese cross italian half German windows 2003 patch page.
I remember when the SQL Slammer came out, the Microsoft site was a mess and it was a mission to find the patch you wanted, total disaster. Even now I follow the link on./ about this worm and can't find any reference to Windows 2003 server on the QB article (Why the hell not?) surely m$ want to promote the fact that they've patched their shiny new OS? And I don't care if I've come to the win2k or NT4 page, I want a link to the 2K3 page cause I'm ignorant and lazy (I'm a Windows User) wheres my spoon, i need feeding.

Seeing as we're back on Quake2 developemnt I thought I'd mention the /. article about Quake2.NET for those who missed it the first time round.
