    you mean save money on taxes? No, I doubt that this will ever make it to the national highway system.

    Plus, the distance that the road would need to avoid moving would probably make the cost of the matierals far more than the 70 pound canoe.

    unfortunatly there has been many offerings of free software in the past. Do people use it over commercially available software? Are people flocking to Linux over MS b/c it is free?

    No.

    People go w/the mass. We are the crazy ones (smart?)

    I highly doubt that the additions are "backdoors" put in by the government. O/S allows you to look at the code and see what's inside. Why the hell would the Chinese add shit only to have their people get the "virgin" copy?

    I believe that they should merge their code base w/the rest of the world, but if they really want to do it. Fine. They are ignoring the vasy majority of the rest of the world and continuing to use their outdated and unacceptable government structure, why should they keep up w/anything else?

    I have USB reader for my digital camera. It doesn't work half the time. Some kind of conflict. It causes the system to crash on startup if you have it plugged in while booting the system. It causes the system to crash if you are using it while using anything else except copying the files from the card.

    I use my handheld (and the CF slot) to copy the files over.

    The manufactorer knows of the problem but basically said tough.

    If it works from Kodak, I would use it.

    AIM is not the name of AOL Instant Messenger, so your comment there should be taken back. AIM is an ackronymn, and everyone knows that you cannot trademark them...

    I agree completely that KIllustrator should be changed, I don't see how it really makes much of a difference to Adobe though. They should have asked nicely and it would probably have been done... Instead they had to threaten legal action and a fine.

    Get over it Adobe.

    I prefer to take stupid phrases that no one else would think of (something like making a phrase to remember quiz items) and take the first letters and sound out a word for it.

    pretty easy to make up, easy to change, and easy to remember.

    I would not understand why this wouldn't be an option. I find it very annoying to try and fix a Windows machine and not know what the hell is being loaded at startup.

    I think it is great that people don't want to see that shit. Hell, we are trying to make a move towards having more "dummy friendly" OS. "Dummies" don't like watching kernel messages. They would rather stare at the pretty pictures :)

    I am fine w/all of that, in fact I believe it is a great idea and it should be implemented! Just make it optional. At least have a keystroke bring up the kernel messages.

    dmesg is nice to have but I just like to know that there is something really going on other than just watching that stupid little bar at the bottom of Win bootups :)

    well people that were running online gambling sites off-shore were still asked to come to court for the 1961 Wire something Act (having to do w/placing bets across Intl lines/state lines). One guy did (from the Carribean) and he was prosecuted.

    They still could *attempt* to bust him.

    I really don't feel that just b/c Linux cannot do this that MS is *years* ahead. This is something that MS wants to do, this is apparently not something somoene else has been motivated to do in Linux. Thus, it isn't really something that the majority wants (in theory, which I know is flawed)

    Honestly, if the little gadget is necessary it is usually started fast.

    Linux has its parts where it is ahead, MS has its sections where it is. I still think that the advancements mad by Linux in the time frame it has been available are more than what MS has done since its inception.

    it will only be monopolized if we continue to let them create this positive spin on the control of our lives!

    people are alowly accepting large organizations as the maintainers of databases w/all of our personal information. Do you really want MS to control EVERY single facet of your computer connection? I am scared enough of centralized databases of credit info that companies sell to each other for mass marketing, but I would be ESPECIALLY afraid of MS controlling 90% of every computer remotely...

    Bill of Borg is really starting to get closer to reality :(

    Do you really believe that MS hasn't already taken a GOOD look at the competing code bases out there? It wouldn't just be a good idea for them to do it, it is a great idea. That's why I am sure that they have done it for years now.

    I don't understand your problem w/a GPL'd version being released. Why shouldn't someone compete w/a commercial piece of software?

    You do NOT need to have a tech support staff that is knowledgable w/every window manager ever. Pretty much GNOME and KDE is all that ia ncessary (people who don't use either probably can figure the rest out on their own).

    I agree that Linux probably needs more direction towards some sort of "standard" but at this point it really doesn't matter.

    No, programs that ran on Win95 do not always run in Win2k. So that's bull. I really haven't had a problem w/a program not being able to run under more recent Linux distros/versions (except for libc linked glquake).

    For a company to support Linux there has to be a market for it, and honestly, there just isn't. That's the fact, plain and simple.

    soon after posting this message my DSL went down. Came back up a few hours later. The Verizon tech guy comes to the door to tell me that they have switched me to a new shelf (a T1 is feeding it and not any other shelves).

    It stopped the problem from happening every 10s but it still happens probably once in 30 hops...

    I guess calling them for several straight months causes something to be eventually done. I don't know if it is adequate but at least it is something.

    I have no respect for Verizon. They have known about overselling their bandwith for months (6) yet they refuse to do anything about it. I have gotten to the point where I just call their billing dept and get my money back. I will NOT accept ping spikes over 1000 every 10s.

    Their excuse is that they keep putting people in charge of upgrading the system and nothing gets done (always blame someone else apparently).

    Perhaps b/c of all these "false" bug reports they are too bogged down but I doubt that is the case in many areas. I personally cannot wait for Road Runner. I would rather deal w/that (cheaper, faster, and probably less problems) than the 1000+ ping responses and poor tech support.
