whatever man. At that age, I really didn't want to spend time w/my parents. I wanted to hang out w/my friends or be by myself and do my own thing. My parents (my father especially) was always willing to spend time w/me and do things w/me, but I was the one that didn't want to do it.
My parents checked through the HD everyday looking for jpg, gif, etc. I just made sure to rename all the files something that they wouldn't look for.
Honestly, if they want to do something, they are going to do it. It's like smoking pot. If they want to get high and they don't want to get caught, they are going to be smart enough about it to make sure you never find out.
I say let them surf the web w/o hindering them. Most kids aren't going to just "stumble" across offensive material and I have yet to have someone just hop on IM and message me dirty stuff (although I suggest having her check "male" as her sex -- you are less likely to have teenage boys messaging her)
the "expectation of privacy" doesn't mean shit. There is nothing that actually PROTECTS our privacy. We just assume that laws should... Tough shit for us I suppose.
what surprised me was the lack of people complaining that they have seen this all before (the guy w/the 2600 games in his cave). After all, who the hell reads the articles? I figured they wouldn't even read the blurb;-)
this is a big problem. if I am going to be paying for it I want it to be encoded in 256+k and I want it to be in prestine condition, no crackles, no pops, no sound distortion... I have a feeling that none of this will happen. In fact, I know this won't happen. Napster will not claim any guarntee, they are too smart for that (scary I know).
at least when it was free there was no worries about quality.. If it sucked you just downloaded another one..
I think someone should do something to IRC and make it a Napster like service.. I wish I had the techie knowhow. I am quite able to get DCC's on IRC, but are others?
I only support the artists that allow the free trade of their music, and I suggest everyone else follow my lead (and push for your favorite artist to do the same). Hippy music has a tendency to be free to the listeners.. Why shouldn't all music?
they weren't "cited". The FTC disagreed w/their practices, but isn't going to do anything at this time. Seems Amazon's partner in crime has changed its policy (states something about "it is sometimes tracked anonymously and not linked w/names"
how is this different from any other marketing information gathering device (for sale databases, grocery store name here cards, etc)
everyone is watching what their buyers are purchasing.. Most grocery stores don't tell you that they are going to do that when you sign up for their "savings cards", how is what Amazon doing any different?
well jobs being taken over by computers/robots/etc has been a problem for all of history. When computers first came out people were so worried that their jobs would be taken (and they were) but computers created other jobs for people in other areas...
I say that if a robot can do it better, let it happen. Firefighters are a necessary part of our society (unfortunatly) but it is a dangerous and tax payer expensive job. If a robot was put to the task it is likely that much less money would have to be spent, and many more lives would be saved.
as far as which one to save... who knows. the current state of AI is low compared to what would need to be available for this type of descision making, but who knows what will happen.
umm, if you love a company, and you want it to continue on its merry way, you want to funnel as much resources into it as you can... Stocks are a way to do that.
you aren't doing it b/c you think it is neat, you are doing it to give them more money.
I am against the fact that grocery stores, private organizations, my college are selling my information about everything I do to third parties to solicit me w/shit.
So do you think I care if someone is reading my messages, my emails, and what I see on the web? FUCK YA I care...
I understand that there is no "privacy" protection in our laws... But I really think that under no circumstances should the government be allowed to see what I do in my own home on my own time...
Bah.

depends on whether or not the RR is at road level or not. There isn't all that much noise if they are below the road level (as in the case of where I used to live), yet when they have to sound their horn at road level it is rough (as it is here in NW Ohio).
I have noticed the fiber running along the tracks in PA for sometime (many years). I always wondered why they just didn't add drops in those areas. How many people would be against allowing them to run the fiber to the homes in the surrounding areas? I would be all for it. Why waste it and just let it sit there. Run the damn shit to the homes... I would love to have FAST FAST FAST fiber connections:)
well in general (ever since the days of standard Q1 tourneys) 150 was the standard cut off for HPB/LPB. Granted, 150 in Q3 is different than 150 in Q1, but the same idea applies.
I don't believe that ping should be the sole basis of your designation. I may have a *somewhat* steady 95 ping, but it suddenly will jump to 1500 in a single ping, 500 at the next, and 90 at the next.. Now. When I am playing this icons me and I am toast (especially when fighting). The ping never shows this, but you can see it...
When I was a 56k HPB at 185 ping I had a better connection for Quake than I do w/my 768/128k DSL from Verizon.
150 is not tolerable. I would say that 125 would be closer to HPB/LPB IMHO.
how the fuck can you claim "The Linux Desktop is dead" when everyone already knows that it hasn't been born yet.
I guess it is something like a premature baby (I am going to go out on a limb here and say 1 month old in the birth calendar) coming out and not surviving.
I don't get my ISP services from Verizon. Just the line.. I get two IP addresses from a local freenet that offers DSL services.. They weren't overly happy giving us the two IP's, but they did.
Verizon has VERY poor customer service. That's how they are ruining DSL. They seem to feel that it is ok for you to have 1000+ms ping replies, and they also seem to feel it is ok to let this continue for several months w/o any work being done.
I would rather the cable. At least there would be *some* periods during the day that there would be decent service. w/Verizon DSL there are no peak, off-peak times. I have poor ping responses at all hours/all days...
for whatever reason, BGSU decided not to use their existing tunnel system (crawl spaces w/nice hatches) and instead made trenches all over campus to lay the new lines.. They said it was more economical to do that than to try and figure out what wires were what...
Personally, I think that the pneumatic tubes would be a nice idea, but probably just as difficult..
What they *should* do is use old subway lines as roadways...:) Although, "Winston" may be against that...;-)

That's my worthless
I wonder if they are going to start the monitor at .69 :)
maybe it is all a ploy by the "beowulf cluster" of cell phones (an advanced AI) to kill us off and take over the planet!
The cell phone manufactorers know about the phone's underground plot and until now had no weapons to fight it!
Seriously..
Keyser Soze loves his money...
but no one is looking for the "main" entrance are they? They are looking to see if the "Staff Only" doors are unlocked when no one is around..
yep, you cannot do that. If you don't trust them, go somewhere else. You don't own the machines, you cannot scan them.
IANAL.

several years ago I bought a laptop w/2 bad pixels. It wasn't that annoying but they were still noticable at times...
Monitors from Sony have those lines through the middle. You get used to them, not a big deal.
I don't see any problem w/it really.

man I hope so :) If Leonardo DeCaprio is jumping off you know this is true... Lucky bastard. :)
the aliens will eat the damn jellyfish before they do anything useful. Unless they make the jellyfish glow when they are being eaten :)

seems like it is bettr for it to be brken then, who teh hell would want it beeping all teh time?
seriously, I don't considering the spell checker not beeping as something bring "broken".
