Most of the people I know (and myself included) have many 2-3 songs from one artist in a collection of over 1000 mp3's. It's the variety and the fact that we don't have to buy a 1000 disc changer that you put on random to get the song selections you want.

I have bought albums of only the bands I like and I don't need to worry about sampling them online illegally before I buy, they all support the free exchange of their live stuff. SCI, WSP, GD, Hookah, etc...

Most levels I play in Q1 don't have much, and most of the proxies I have played against it doesn't matter. They will STILL hit you. Your position on the ground doesn't matter. Yes, and that was quite insulting. I am not the best, nor did I ever claim to be. You apparently haven't played much IMHO if you think that they can't hit you.

  12. Re:Always Happens on Open Source Quake Causes Cheating? · · Score: 1

I don't think that releasing the source is going to kill Q1 off. Most of the people that I have talked to in the Q1CTF arena have moved to Q3 and come back to Q1. Q3CTF was going to be released by Zoid w/o a grapple. This fact bothers most CTF'ers. In fact, I feel that the entire point of CTF is the grapple (Zoid doesn't share my opinion, but then again I play the game for me, not him). Q3's lag is hard to compensate for (as I mentioned in another post). As a HPB you seem to be moving rather freely and shooting people, but next thing you know, they are a) missing from the spot you just shot, or b) you are dead. You are standing still to those w/better connections but you think you are moving. Q1 even though you were moving SLOW, you at least were actually moving. Standing still during lag is a retarded way to have that go...

I also don't think that this was "expected" and "wanted" so that Q1 would die. There were always people cheating, and there will always be people cheating. It hasn't killed the game yet, and it won't. Q3 had bots available during the test phases, is it going to make us not want to play Q3 when Qx comes out?

  13. Re:I am a bot author - and I am outraged on Open Source Quake Causes Cheating? · · Score: 1

again, wrong. #1, I don't play Q2, never have, never will. I will probably never play Q3 for the same reason. Realistic looking games are not what I am in them for. Q2 was lacking (IMHO) good gameplay and even though some of this "gameplay" was given back in Q3 I still feel that the overkill in the graphics outweighs any reason to play it (don't say that my computer can't handle the 3D either -- Dual 400 Celeron's, 128mb, 16mb Voodoo3 3k and the r_smp is enabled). #2 -- on any Q1 server I have played on there are NO mods for "voting out" a player. This is a Q2 thing apparently. #3 -- I don't know what you mean by this asymeterical movement arcs in 3space b/c I really don't know how you can move in the air like that w/o grappling, and the second you grapple, you stop long enough for the bot to hit you...

I have been accused of being a bot constantly on public servers... They think cause you can grapple and shoot you are a bot, your statement doesn't impress me. LPB's don't look like bots, bots look like bots. LPB's just move faster. I don't know about Q2, but if it is anything like the lag you get in Q3 I can see where your statements come from. Q1 lag is just making you slow, Q3 you feel like you are moving w/a 30 ping, but you are really standing still to anyone else around you. Rather annoying on both fronts IMHO. Lag should be like Q1, it is much easier to compensate for.

None of my points mentioned in my previous post had anything to do w/fighting LPB's. I was saying that a proxy on an LPB connection will kill faster and miss less than someone w/a slower connection.

Look at swimming (the sport I am involved in, and the one that has seen the most recent drug problems -- the 84, 88, 92, and 96 Olympics). They have taken drugs that are undetectable, taken other drugs to mask the ones that they took, injected other people's urine, etc... There will forever be ways around pre-existing measures.

I have played against "bots" for years now. I change my alias to BotOwner and even if I don't win, killing the little fuck is more annoying to him (especially when you laugh about it) than he is to me. Just shows that I have more skill than he does if his computer aided shit still can't frag me.

Just get over it. You can spot a cheater the second he joins and everyone just laughs at him. Play until he leaves, he is just trying to annoy you. Just let him cheat, he will get bored of letting the computer play for himself...

Proxy cheat bots are only a small percentage of client side bots - also I've never seen a client side bot that really gave an advandage to the cheater.

Wrong. VERY wrong. Proxy cheats, a low ping, and *some* skill (this *some* means being able to strafe and dodge incoming fire) will net you a game (that ends at 150 points) where you win by sometimes 60 to 100 points (with decent players). I have used the "stooge" bot before on public CTF servers (not trying to seem good, and only playing under an "assumed name" just testing it). You just see your weapon firing, and you don't know who at. You could be underwater and it will just launch at the nearest person w/the most number of points. If you are a decent player you can rack up several hundred points in only a few minutes (if you are running the flag as well).

Most of the proxy bots depend on ping. You can tell the bot to use some sort of restraint to compensate for high pings, but if you are on DSL or cable, the bot is unstoppable. They NEVER miss. The only way around it is to circle strafe the bot and hope it can't keep up. It normally can.

I have been playing Quake1CTF for a little over three years now (steadily). My clan has been around for that long as well, and even though we are no superstar clan, we enjoy playing for fun. There have been proxy cheats around (that include teamplay support and even turn to your enemy when firing) for a long time now. Some servers can detect this and kick the user, but still some have advanced proxies that still let them in (and the cheating is obvious). There has been word of this "pak2 cheat" where I assume that the user has a modified pak2 where it seems to allow them more damage and unlimited ammo. I haven't seen this "pak2 cheat" but on some public servers it really does seem that they have like 200A/250H/resistance rune/regeneration rune all the time. They are nearly impossible to kill in a fight even w/8x rockets and lightning. I'm sorry, but you can only take a direct 8x rocket once...

My long, drawn-out shit here is just to say that no matter if the source was released or not, there will always (and was always) cheaters in Quake. Using either proxies or this myserterious "pak2 cheat". They only seem to be on public servers (ctf.webmaster.com) but I have to be weary of some CTF clans and their remarkable aim... I never accuse, but when two rockets are already heading in your exact direction before you even think of grappling there, I have to think that something fishy is going on...
