I dare say that the people who frequent this news site are in no position to tell you what you should or should not do. Just get out there, do it, and be as true to yourself as you possibly can.
Only YOU know what you want out of life and the only advice worth giving is to say, "Don't ever be afraid to make mistakes, because that's the only way you learn things."
To me the real value of school is to learn about yourself, not to learn about biology or engineering. Remember, sometimes it takes a negative experience to inspire you in the right direction.
I think the one mistake I see people make most often is to take life too seriously. Please, for the love of god, just try and enjoy yourself out there.
Now that you've read what I have to say, forget it and make up your own damn mind!
Of course the only difference is in cost of living. All you have said is that you can have a similar lifestyle to an engineer here in the US, but at a fraction of the cost.
As much as I hate to see US companies abandoning their own country, I think this is exactly what needs to happen. Economics demand that companies find ways to produce with minimal costs, and thats what they are trying to do.
However, the problem I have is that these same companies are not giving their US employess a chance to compete in that market. I am a huge fan of traveling and seeing other countries, and I would love to live in some other places, but the reality of making that happen is not so simple. If I was given a chance to work in another country, but at a small fraction of my current salary, I would definitely think about it. As long as I was capable of making a good living wherever I was.
I would totally sign up to work at an office for my company in another country where they could pay me less. We can just move my whole building and team down there for all I care.
Shit... I'll move down next to you and eat what I consider better food than we have in the states for only 75 cents... then we can go out and have some beers together.
The point being... companies are sending jobs overseas without giving US employees an adequate chance to compete for those jobs.
It is kind of sad that this actually needs to be explained to ppl because we don't know how to take care of ourselves. If what is listed below helps, then make sure and pass it on:)
1. Diet - easily the most important part of being healthy. The premise is simple... eat right and eat as much as you want. My suggestion is vegitarian or vegan if you can do it. If you really can't then just keep your meat consumption to a minimum... try for only a handful of meat meals a week.
how to eat right? eat lots of raw foods. the more the better. raw food is highest in nutrients and easiest to digest... its just plain best. By raw foods I mean fruits and vegetables, especially greens like salad. you also want to avoid refined foods, like pastas and breads. These aren't bad for you, they just aren't nutritious either. Instead eat beans, lentils, brown rice and all other types of natural grains and legumes. beer is fine just not in excess, otherwise stick to water. If you eat right your body will naturally correct itself to the right weight... but the key is in the raw foods!
2. excercise - you have to do something to be active. it can be as simple as walking your dog all the way up to full on scheduled work out sessions. i personally can't stand the gym and find it hard to work out by myself, so i like to play sports. soccer, basketball, volleyball, football, whatever. find a sport you like and get out and play... with a little searching you can find good pickup games that are open to everyone.
3. sleep - if you don't sleep enough or don't sleep well then you need to fix that. I find that doing something relaxing before bed really helps me sleep better... for me that means watching an episode of anime. most ppl like to read, but really that just stimulates my mind too much, but certainly do what works for you. Also, if you have a partner then massaging is another great excercise before bed, and I also hear that a good foot massage helps you to sleep.
If you can get these 3 parts of your life in good condition then you will certainly be healthy. It doesn't need to be daunting or complicated.
I don't see how these companies survived this long. when will they understand that DRM = *piss off*
They need to realize that if they focus on refining the delivery mechanism for digital music first then they can worry about protecting their property further down the line. Right now they are losing buisness because its easier to find music and get it on Kazaa then it is anywhere else, but that can be changed easily.
Kazaa sucks... lousy quality, unpredictable/lame download speeds, plus no guarantee of getting what you want. Give me a place that has...
1. good quality rips
2. large selection
3. fast downloads
4. standard format
... and I am there. If companies would put DRM on the backburner for a while and focus on actually getting ppl the music they want then they would be in a much better position.
seems like one good way to cut the noise and design a scalable system is to provide independent frontend and backend systems. I know mythtv does this.
This way you can run a "server" that can do all your recordings and store all your media and be as loud as it wants since it will be anywhere in your house on a network.
Then you can attach any number of frontend clients to tvs or monitors... and those can be hacked down mini boxes of all sorts. To keep the noise down you wouldn't use HDD's or many fans, you would just netboot or boot from cd or floppy. There are also some using XBox as a frontend as well. Pretty nifty if you ask me.
Warren, you are always talking how you immerse yourself in pop culture, using it to feed your ever growing imagination. This has always troubled me because I can only take so much American Idol and Britney Spears before my brain begins turning into coal and everything ends up looking hazy violet.
I'd like to hear what you mean by pop culture. What sources do you most commonly draw from now? There is practically nothing mainstream worth the effort anymore, so where else do you turn?
I think what would set this apart is the fact that the data is freely available to anyone that wants it. Sure, IMDB is a great database, but the data is not free for people, and neither is Amazon's data of course.
I am a strong supporter of FREE data the way that freedb.org gives away their database. I think that is the featrue that will make this database worthwhile. Otherwise I agree that Amazon seems to be doing a pretty good job.

Sun keyboards actually have a dedicated key for "copy", "cut", "paste", "undo" and a few others. This has always made the most sense to me.
This also works in the dual clipboard mode. So hitting the "copy" key will place the contents in a different clipboard then highlighting.
Works great.
