Norton was decent when Peter Norton used to run the show. When he sold his company to Symantec, I have noticed the software turn into bloated crap. People seem to believe Norton is the best still, it used to be great in the mid-90s, but now it is garbage.
For anyone that buys Norton, I would try Nod32 instead, I think it is the best one out there if you're willing to spend money.
For those of you who prefer a free antivirus, I would try Antivir, it is much better than AVG.
My employer forces us to use firefox at my job... The database front-end they had designed uses flash. Firefox segfaults quite often and the copy/paste buffer is always farked up. I really hope these issues have been taken care of:(
The majority of the syntax is derived from BASIC, which was designed to make programming simple for the average Joe.
I do know other languages as well. I must say that it is difficult? crazy? to code in C++ for a few months and go back to VB and vice versa due to syntax differences.
I'm sure in this thread we'll see those who say how they hate it or love it, and then someone will mention firefox. Does it ever end?
It's Groundhog Day on slashdot.
Some of you that do like it will change your mind when you learn that Microsoft Anti-Spyware was written in VISUAL BASIC 6.0 (here comes more bloatware comments)
I'm sure those people will change their mind just to conform so they can find a spot on the Slashdot bandwagon along with the firefox fanboys that hate Visual Basic and Microsoft.
I've been using packet8 for about 6 months now. The quality is nearly perfect for me, and there is no "lag".
The price is good also if you live in the states and have to call Canada. I have the regular residential plan for 19.95 a month. It includes unlimited calling in the US and Canada, also has many extras.
The bandwidth requirements for packet8 are lower than Vonage (not sure about the others)

I think everyone here that likes firefox should give the Opera beta a try. I've used it since yesterday and it's a top quality piece of software in my opinion.
Firefox might be better than IE, but Opera is much nicer, faster than firefox.
Anyone who doesn't agree with me, has not used firefox enough to see.
Firefox freezes out of the blue at times, on multiple machines. As a experienced programmer, I would not recommend firefox yet, too many problems with stability right now.
Quit believing all the firefox fanboys on slashdot and neowin, they do not know what they are talking about when they say firefox is the best.
Currently, IE loads faster than firefox. Visually it displays pages faster. I think the main issue here is common sense when it comes to adware, spyware, popups. I use IE when I use windows, and I never get adware or spyware. I'm tired of firefox fanboys constantly saying firefox is the best... I don't think there is a best yet. Firefox has its flaws.
If you don't want popups, adware, spyware, use a real browser like lynx.

I asked the same question, heh.

If it were my choice at work, I'd use Opera.
I have had packet8 for over a year now. The VOIP service has been good.
The customer support is incompetent, it took 3 calls until I found someone willing to fix the extra charge on my account. Email support never answers.
The fox needs to take more vitamins, protein is good for growth!
Is it just me or does firefox seem to get promoted/mentioned by Slashdot everyday?
It's like eating your favorite food everyday, eventually you'll get sick of it.
I've been averaging 4.8mbps down, and 2mbps up.
2 months ago it was about 3mbps down and 256kbps up.
Nice upgrade.

In other news, Microsoft got a patent for "breathing oxygen".
We are doomed.

I really wish people would stop with the over-hyping of something that isn't all that.
A lot of people using IE can be somewhat safe if they disable activex and get regular updates.
I've used VB for almost 8 years.
The majority of the syntax is derived from BASIC, which was designed to make programming simple for the average Joe.
I do know other languages as well. I must say that it is difficult? crazy? to code in C++ for a few months and go back to VB and vice versa due to syntax differences.
There is usually a shortcut on the desktop.
Or
C:\Program Files\Microsoft AntiSpyware\GIANTAntiSpywareMain.exe

Mr. Miyagi kicks ass.
I've never had spyware included with Opera... Quit with the stupid propaganda.
The free version does have ads. (2 choices of how they are displayed I believe)
The browser is worth the 39 dollars in my opinion.

You must be using win9x. I have never seen IE generate a BSOD in 2k/xp.

"If you don't want popups, adware, spyware, use a real browser like lynx. "
Sarcasm friends...
And this was not a troll... I have firefox 1.0 and IE 6.0. What I wrote is the flat-out truth.

I currently use packet8 VOIP service and pay 19.95 a month.
The plan allows unlimited long distance calls in the USA and Canada. International rates are often 2 cents per min.
I usually make a lot of long distance calls per month and save at least 50 dollars a month now using VOIP.
The service includes all the features anyone can ask for included in the 19.95 monthly fee.
A lot of people have been wary of the sound quality, so far I have been unable to tell the difference between my VOIP service and a regular landline.
Overall I am happy with the service.
