  4. Recieved My Notification In the Mail on CSU Chico Identities Compromised · · Score: 1

For several years, Hewlett-Packard has hired more graduates from CSU, Chico's Computer Science Department than from any other CS department in the country. In US News and World Report, CSU, Chico continues to rank in the top 5 public regional universities in the West.

I had recently graduated from Chico state 2002 with a degree in computer science option math/physics and minor in math. I have since go on to complete my master's degree in computer science and was duely prepared from my CSU Chico education. i.e. my gpa for master program is 3.9 and I have had to study very little as my undergrad work has prepared me for both work and future study. I often have found my UC master classes are recovering topics that were detailed in my CSU undergrad classes

While Chico State is know for its parties and good times it also has some of the finest professors and staff in the California state university system. Many professionals educators are attracted to chico as it offers a slower pace of live and a focus on education that is not found in other settings. Personally I was able to communicate with each of my professor an a daily basis. I could visit their office hours or they would be more than willing to answer my questions after lecture. I know you don't get this attention at a larger more prestigous universtity..

As for the Food service computer exploit. This goes to show that the computer science students at Chico are some of the brightest and most intelligent around. I actully worked for the computer service department at Chico state and was impressed by the ingenuity and aptitude of the students to find holes/exploits in campus system. During my short time I had witnessed several attacks on system, most of which were successful. I was also impressed by the amount of technology that csu Chico presents to it students.

As for the food service and housing computer being hijacked this is obviously a student who lived in the dorm and figured out how to distributed software to his fellow students. I do not believe that his/her intentions were negative other then gaining free access to high speed connections which existed on the university network.

I received my letter from csu, chico yesterday informing me of the exploit. You can also view this site if you wish to read more into the problem and what csu, chico is doing to prevent further attacks.

CSU CHICO IS AN AWESOME SCHOOL AND I WOULD NOT HAVE CHOSSEN TO GO ANYWHERE ELSE AS I HAD MANY OTHER OPTIONS

IF YOU CAN MAKE IT IN CHICO YOU CAN MAKE IT ANYWHERE WE STUDY HARD AND KNOW HOW TO HAVE FUN..

I think people are jealous of what they missed out on when you hear negative comments about chico...

Walk around the campus and you will understand that CSU CHICO is by far one of the finest universities on the west coast!

California citizens have encouraged more fuel efficient cars as the purchase of more effiecnt cars show.. If anything california should tax gasoline more.. even know it's currently $2.10 a gallon here.. Make it $3.00 then people will drive less, stop buying monster trucks for cars, and exercise more.. Something we all need.

Also the traffic is so bad in southern california that it would be cheaper for me.. since I only drive 30 miles.. but I sit in traffic for almost 2-3 hrs each day burning fuel.

What a scam.. I'm disgusted by the gov't of california..

  8. What do you want from me? on Reasonable Salary for Entry Level Programmers? · · Score: 2, Informative

After graduating with a B.S. in computer science and a minor in math the search for work began. I soon found a small company who needed help with their servers and offered a step ladder approach to salary.

I would start off making around 16 dollars for the first 6 months after which I would be moved to 32 dollars and hour. And within two years promised that I would be up to 45 as lead programmer and network administrator. This seemed to be reasonable as the company wanted to prove my skills. After setting up their small business servers, which has been hacked by a former employee. Correcting multiple problems with routing and storage organization, I was asked to do a network assessment. I pointed out the weakness in their network design, security, and general optimazations that could be made. My employer had me implement these ideas.

Two weeks before my pay raise to 32 an hour I was asked to do another report on the electronic service. At which time I submitted the report about the improved network security and optimizations that had been made. I was fired the next day. Another employee called me later that night and told me that the business had done this multiple times now.

My advice for college graduates is be careful what you wish for. Sometimes less pay is better than being screwed by someone. or working for an asshole.

I have since gone on to complete my masters degree in computer science, opened my own business and to say the least am doing very well.

If your that talented go do it yourself. If not take the 10 an hour and shut up.

I'm curious if this ruling affects the makers of handguns, cars, or just about anything else. Think about it. He developed a product for public use and it can be used illegally. Does this mean that the manufacture of his computer should also be sued by the RIAA because their product could be misused for sharing mp3s or writing code to steal mp3. What about the tape recorders that have been around for years. Or Cd Burners? Or even the radio? How come the RIAA isn't suing them.. What is next the RIAA suing to close down the internet entirely or any product that copies music. This is a monopoly trying to maintain it regime. Unite together against this dictator. United we stand. With free mp3 music for all. Also what about the so called legal peer to peer networks. How come they aren't being sued too. This is a case of the big RIAA fist smashing an independent company. Exactly what our government should protect against. Instead special interest groups and high priced lawyers are controlling the government through big industry.
