I know you have already look at them but a Tandy WP2 is nothing to sneeze at. Decent keyboard. Rugged. Runs off of 4 AA battries. And you can use Xmodem and the terminal communication software on a PC to download your files. Crude but we can Freeze Young Skywalker! It also has a decent screen.
The catch is what you want was avaiable about 10+ years ago. Today its either a PDA with or without a built in/ external keyboard. Or a very small noetbook. I think IBM has a very tiny one. So does Apple.
If the constrant is your pocket then you are stuck with a PDA form factor. Maybe with an external keyboard.
Well ther are some new telescope concepts that could on paper equal Hubble using ways to detect and componsate for the turblents and distorsion in the air. Basiaclly a laser is shined up and computer "induce a destortion" in the mirrors.
But my real question is why all of a sudden for NASA orginally was kicking and screaming NO WAY Hubble mission under NO condition to need to do it right now super quick? It need some gyros, battries and some of the replacement parts sitting in a warehouse but is good for a few years right now.
1) Is it they want to look like they are really doing something.
2) Wants the goverment to cough up more bucks. Since they lost a bit last go around.
3) Want to pull heat off of them due to a delay for the same problem that destroyed the last shuttle that went up. Ice falling and destroying the wing.
Main comment is simply it should not get to this point. Look at web names. No matter who you go through it tell you its in use! It does not wait untill you BOTH have it up. Or if you forget and dont register all of the domain names for XYZ some one else can come in and get it. Bet Apple, McDonnals etc have evey extension covered even if they dont use it. Its simple database mining!
Or simple special car plates. Whoose first get it. The other dosents. Its BETTER to solve it at the start then when the mess occures. Easer to fix or designed than after the fact!
It should have been detected when Apple applied for the trademark. Simple. The current system allowed for both to occure. Then when there is a problem it bigger than just solving it to start with. Its not really broken but is not efficent and does not work.

The company is called Microware. OS-9 has been around since the early 1980's. Mostly used in embeded systems, SWTP, SSB and RS Color Computers.
Actualy Tiger Electronics is still around. Bought by Hasbro.
