So you think the US can stop you from purchasing wine while in Italy on vacation?
This is a question of a foreign government's encroachment on the sovereignty of a business. Or, it is a question of a domestic government's encroachment on the domestic business' right to customers. I seem to remember when certain government entities didn't allow businesses to deal with women and certain minorities...
Then why can I trade on the London Stock Exchange? It is not a US regulated market. Is it that we consider UK regulated markets as US regulated markets? What about Irish regulated markets? I'm sure InTrade is regulated by Ireland... Can US residents not trade on the Ireland Stock Exchange?
How are they stopping US residents? I assume they will just block US IP addresses. If that is the case, then the US is acting on InTrade (probably indirectly) in order to stop business from happening directly between the US and InTrade. It does not stop US residents currently outside of the US or those using proxies outside the US. So no, it likely isn't a US law being applied to US residents. It is a law being applied to foreign governments, which are applying their laws to domestic companies, which are then blocking US traffic, whether the traffic is from a US resident or non-US resident.
It does wonders when your information isn't worth much. It is like having a lock on your crappy car. Why would someone steal it when there are so many better locked cars or flat out unlocked cars available nearby?
"Scientific" polls used for the debates should not be asking "Who will you vote for?". Even if they have a multiple choice response. That is a question to predict the outcome of the election. Which is a valid poll. However for the debates, it should be "Without consideration of voting for the best candidate, A, with a chance to defeat the candidate, B, you like less than A, who would you vote for?"
You would see a lot more people with polling numbers at 10%+. You might get up to 4. Then other candidates would be given the chance of being heard. Shortly thereafter, the polls would probably go back to 2 candidates, but maybe not the usual 2.
In most instances, it would have been simply a nuisance. However, there are certain applications and systems that rely more heavily on dates that would have been a disaster. Those were the ones that were addressed properly. Just think of what a few seconds of differentiation does to GPS. Certain financial, insurance, etc... systems would have been quite unpredictable.
Those were for people who used an appropriate YEAR or DATE data type. Many like to you CHAR data types. In fact, I am dealing with one right now. The schema was created only 4 years ago and stores date/time in CHAR data types. I guess they didn't want to do the work of parsing that data.
The bug happened. The symptoms of the bug never happened. Big difference. That's like saying a car without a brakes never happened. The context doesn't make sense. Now, a car without brakes drove away and was unable to stop? That would happen.
People want to believe that preparation and work can't actually succeed. Just like the Hoover Dam doesn't really exist, because it would be hard to do. Same with landing on the moon. Actually, when you think about it, everyone believes we built the Hoover Dam with hard work. Most believe we landed on the moon. And only some think that Y2K was a real issue. It seems like people are getting less and less accepting of difficult tasks.
It doesn't matter how hard the job is or how important the job is.
The point is that money/salary/pay is directly correlated to replace-ability. If there are a lot of pilots and they are replaceable, then they won't get paid much. Likewise with trash collectors. Britney Spears has no talent and she makes a crap ton of money, because her brand/image is not replaceable.
I could work hard at getting 20 PhDs in various fields. But I won't get paid for it. I will get paid for how irreplaceable I am for the work I am doing.
I has nothing to do with how many people die. The training is a requirement put in place to try to prevent that from happening. This makes it harder for pilots to be replaceable. However, there are STILL too many pilots for the salary to go up.
Ummm...stop comparing groups of people. Stop comparing a rich suburb in New York City to inner city Detroit. Start measuring individuals and the improvement of individuals. You could say: if 90% of individuals improve from one grade to the next, then it is successful. But you don't say 90% of people need to graduate (that just lowers graduation standards) or rich people need to score 90% to pass.

Is a Chinese law that requires Macy's Department stores in the US to stop Chinese people from shopping there not a "long arm"?

Security is relative.
That's why capitalism is typically paired with free enterprise. Screw the companies and create your own.
Because you both have voluntary contracts with contract enforcement insurance companies. Basically, something like the mob.

Or the computer just traveled near the speed of light.
But why did it reset to the year 2000? Why not to epoch: Jan 1 1970? Is 2000 the new epoch?

What if anti-matter were just sitting on the surface of the moon?
I had no packet loss either. It's kind of hard to lose something that was never sent.
I live just south of Hoboken.
I would hedge that bet by betting you'll lose the original bet.

Trash collectors have an important job. They prevent life threatening diseases. Should they be paid $119,650?

But you are still grouping people together. That is racist and only promotes racism.
But the goal isn't to instill knowledge and wisdom (and measure it), but to make it look like you instilled knowledge and wisdom
