Seriously, no wonder universities are producing so many substandard graduates these days, the standards seem to be inversely proportional to the fee's they charge.
When hiring I hardly give that $100,000 education any weight at all, unless they have on the job experience they've applied it to, and their references can back that up.
I to started out as a geeky young lad, playing around with gadgets and linux. then I did a few jobs here and there for cash as a teenager and got offered a job, and from there my experience grew till now i'm managing a team, leading development projects and am the main player in all technological matters within my section of the business.
I'm not sure if it's because i satisfy my desire for playing with computer stuff while i'm at work and so don't feel compelled to do any of it at home, or if i'm burnt out on it by the time i get home. i work 12 hour days as well which probably doesn't help.
I think there's only so long you can spend on something before you no longer keen on it. if you had to eat steak every meal, you'd get sick of steak pretty soon.
Ok, march into your boss's office right now, demand you change the entire operations OS because you don't like it's package management. threaten to quit if he doesn't.
be sure to time how long it takes him to burst into laughter at you.
I have to wonder what makes people think it's worth it. you can harp on about the thin end of the anal plug, how he shouldn't have to blah blah. at the end of the day, he got arrested and spent a lot of time in court and would have gone through enourmous stress, for what? he didn't change anything, and the cop was polite and reasonible in his request. I can't blame police for being suspicous these days with all the shit they put up with and all the crazies out there.
I think just showing the cop your ID would have been a lot less painful.
these idiots would only have a point in the event google is bullying ISP's into only letting you search via google. this is what MS did with windows. until then, they are just puppets with MS's fist up their arses.
The problem with Apple is that the average consumer doesn't (or doesn't after the famous iPod ads) know anything else exists, and Apple used its market share and lawyers to keep it that way.
you can cancel a free service and move to another provider without lockin. the same is not true of microsoft products (atleast in the past).
you also miss the massive point of MS's whole anti trust trial - they were bullying vendors into only supplying MS products. show me a case of google doing the same and THEN we'll talk.
care to explain exactly how google can stop other company's setting up a search business? i keep hearing this paid lip service but no one ever coughs up solid reasoning.
what slashdot have you been reading for the last 5 years? nothing insightful here in a long time, please go back to your teens.com (i bet that's a porn website)
I love they way they hold themselfs out as some legit authority by calling themselfs a watchdog, when they are infact nothing more then an anti google mouth piece for google's competitors.
bring it on I say, this "watchdog" is a bunch of lawyers, how about they put their time and money where their mouth is and take google to court, or are they too frightened?
not my bandwidth bills they don't. I can choose to revoke access to my bandwidth and PC however i choose, and if that means certain ads then tough shit.
it isn't theft, it's infringement, since when i buy an album they only grant me a license, not any kind of ownership. hence anyone sharing or downloading music is infringing on the original license granted.
in the case of google's code they haven't granted anyone any kind of license, they just came in and took it, so yes, it's stealing.
isn't it/. that always promotes that closed source doesn't improve security? i'd love to see/. put their source out there, money where their mouth is so to speak.
web apps are slow, lack features easily implemented in an exe and worst of all leave you even more at the mercy of some other asshole who could pull the plug on your app at anytime.
web apps have their place, but they aren't a solution to the apple syndrome.
I get lots of fabricated resumes at work from china and other developing countries as well. they will lie cheat and steal to get their way - china has truely embraced western culture.

your either really young or really naive...
count the individual votes, the most votes win. forget about trying to figure out if it's a 2/3 majority.
if you really need to inisit on describing it as a fraction, its 106/206 ;)

you will see the exact same reaction from someone who hates chinese people if you shown them chinese writing as when you show them a chinese person.
and yes, some culutres have huge flaws that anyone in their right mind would hate.
what the fuck is SEC going to do about fake science papers?
when will you nerds get it that the business requirement dictate the computing needs, not the other way around?
