"Really? All you have to do is be on the torrent and connect to them."
What about protocol encryption or PeerGuardian? Do either of these help or are they worthless? Article is very light on details, just says "use torrent, we c u IPs"
You read "petabytes", and think "pedophile"? Seems someone has a problem...
And why does Chrome think petabytes is a misspelling and want me to change it to gigabytes? Hello Google! You probably deal with more petabytes than anyone, how does your browser not recognize that word?
"If they don't drive and haven't been abroad they don't have a drivers license or passport. "
Then something is wrong. How can they get a job or buy alcohol or get into a bar without even a state ID?
The police asking someone to identify themselves is normal. Why would anyone not tell show the police who they are unless they have something to hide?
Besides we're on/., we don't need no stinkin ID so we have nothing to worry about
Stormtrooper: Let me see your identification. Obi-Wan: [with a small wave of his hand] You don't need to see his identification. Stormtrooper: We don't need to see his identification.
"Whatever happened to "presumed innocent until proven guilty"?"
Who's guilty? No one's been called guilty here, police have always been able to question you if they believe you're committing a crime. If you're trying to break into your car because you left your keys in there the police might as for some ID so at least they know who you are and can link your license to the vehicle. Being in the US illegally is illegal, hence the ability to question people police believe are in the country illegally.
The only crime I see are the people crying racism. This has nothing to do with a person's race, they're simply trying to prevent people from breaking the law. If a white/asian/black/mexican guy are trying to break into their car to get their keys and the police ask them for some ID, are they racist? Of course not.
So really, it's police doing the same job they've always done, so there's nothing to see here, move along...
"It just sounds like he didn't make any real effort."
Are you kidding? This guy contacted at least three major media outlets before Gizmodo bought it! This guy made tons of effort (to sell stolen property).
Has anyone pointed out he thought it was a 3GS and still stole it? Hello? If you find a phone in a bar, do you:
a) take it home and take it apart
b) turn it in to the bartender
Forgetting the fact that it was the new "4G" this guy is still a huge creep. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a criminal background
Very much so, considering he's already been lying to press and police about trying to sell it. " "The idea wasn't to find out who was going to pay the most, it was, 'Who's going to confirm this?'"..... Editors at both news organizations confirmed that they were contacted not about confirming whether the phone was legitimate, but about their interest in buying the device."
BUSTED
If this goes to court they have a great case against the finder of the iPhone and Gizmodo. Can't say I feel sorry for any of them
dear/.er. I found your car keys so I drove your exotic sports car around for a few weeks to find you. I then sold it to a dealer who said they'd return it to you. They drove it, dismantled it, and published some photos and videos before they finally gave it back to you even though they knew it was yours the whole time. I wasn't selling the car, I was selling a story about the car. Prove that's not true.
Just because you can't contact the owner doesn't mean you get to sell something that doesn't belong to you, otherwise every thief would just say "well I wrote them a letter! Not my fault they didn't get it.". If you find something you're suppose to try and contact the owner and if you can't turn it over to the police. Gizmodo is completely guilty of buying stolen goods. They knew without a doubt that the item they bought did not belong to the person they bought it from. That's the definition of receiving stolen goods.
Stupider than being fined for every post on orkut? Funny thing is if orkut is shutdown nothing will replace it because no one would want to shell out 10 grand everytime some idiot posts something bad. Is the judge trying to shutdown Internet in brazil? Brazil would have year 2000 Internet, you can read but don't touch.
"If it had been an ugly person would he have been less of a "sick fuck"- even marginally?"
Of course. Out of the top reasons to off yourself (financial problems, relationship, school/job problems, etc), I'd say "ugly" is one of the better reasons, wouldn't you? Most of those other problems come and go, but "ugly" is pretty much forever. That is one reason I could understand, didn't you learn anything from The Twilight Zone?
"Yeah it's okay, apparently, for the unsightly to make away with themselves."
Not only is it okay, but it's probably one of the best reasons to off yourself.

"I use high DPI settings on notebooks with small, but very high resolution screens. The result is beautiful and easy on the eyes."
If you read the article he's not talking about notebooks, he's referring to desktops: "For a while, screen resolution has been going up on our desktop displays."
Laptop displays actually have been increasing DPI significantly over the last few years. Only recently were 15" 1920x1080 (150dpi) displays released for laptops. His complaint is the 24" LCD on his desk is the same resolution and not significantly higher.
"I lost my girlfriend at a bar, can you send me to the Bunny Ranch?"
Sure, just twitter the Bunny Ranch...
Anyone else think it was a bit strange they said "Please contact my team via Twitter..."? No phone number, no email, no... whatever, their preferred method of communication is twitter?
Don't get me wrong twitter is great when you want to send message to a few dozen (or thousand) friends, but I don't usually hear of someone using it as a one-way communication tool to an individual. Seemed very out-of-place, seeing that at the bottom.
"He's not a "normal consumer" so he has different concerns. He's lobbying them as best he can and if you don't share them, maybe you should STFU about him being a whiner?"
Did you bother to read his reason why he wants a ridiculous 300dpi display? "I don't want the super high DPI to fit more info, I want super high DPI so I can get extra smooth text and screen elements. "
Did he seriously just say he wanted a 6000x4000 24" LCD with a 0.08mm dot pitch (compared to average CRTs with 0.22-0.28mm) so he could look at smooth text?
Also, does he realize this is all his employers' (Microsoft) fault? XP was set by default to 96 DPI. Sure you could set it to "large size" 120 DPI when running high, but that usually ended up distorting everything. Websites didn't look right, text would be all over the pages, some text would be larger but other things wouldn't be, like text in Flash or on images. What looked normal on your screen looked huge on other's meaning you couldn't do web design any word processing. So why would manufactures offer 300dpi when customers would just set them back to the 96 DPI they're use to?
Further proof that no one cares: Steam's Hardware Survey March 2010. Most prevalent resolution amongst gamers? 1280x1024, at 19%. Second place is 1680x1050, at 18%. Neither of those are particularly high, with the highest resolution in the survey being 1920x1200 at 6% and "Other" is only 3.4%.
Besides when his eyes go in a few years he won't care about the high resolutions anymore.
Same here, but $10 is too high, $5 is more reasonable, jumping from $0 a month to $10 a month is a huge increase. Before Hulu I would just download episodes, only thing Hulu does is save me the trouble of downloading. I really don't even have to search, programs like TED notify me when a new episode is available, I just have to click "download". I could go back to living without Hulu.
But if they want $5/mo I want officially supported streaming to devices other than PCs, a free PlayON type program. And I better never see another ad if I'm paying them, not when they "generate over $100 million in advertising revenue in the first half of this year."
At Apple Stores don't the know the serial number of every item they sell, even without registering? Couldn't he just go back to the store, report it stolen to Apple, and Apple can track and see when someone logs on with it?
stop worrying, personal recording devices will save the day. Won't be long before cops can't dump without it being public information.
"But then it's easy to hate and fear what you do not understand"
Amen brother! Sing it to the mountains!
"Really? All you have to do is be on the torrent and connect to them."

"PA using Strawberry Shortcake in a parody of the style of games American McGee would make."
An article about parody videos with music set to lyrics mocking someone, and the first thing you thought of was a comic strip? I immediately thought of Weird Al Yankovic and how screwed he'd be if they're found to be infringing.
Um, actually yeah that's what you're suppose to do, but you'd probably have to drive it to the police station yourself.
Found your keys! All your base are belong to us!

I recently had to use a floppy to replace the BIOS on a video card in XP.
"The article makes it clear it was encouragement of depressed, but physically healthy, people to commit suicide."
Beautiful too. He helped kill this 18 yr old Canadian girl
What kind of sick fuck would say "Hey beautiful girl, you want to die? Let me help you with that..."

"Youll get the 4Kx2K monitor when 4Kx2K video becomes mainstream. Astro Systems DM-3400 56" Professional 4K LCD Monitor"
According to this calculator, 4000x2000 on a 56" is only 80ppi. He's already complaining about 96ppi so I'm sure he won't like 80.

No, Microsoft is still evil, but this certainly helped their karma
they have a picture of the guy that stole the iPad
