Agreed. Everyone I know is the same way. The monthly fee is what killed Tivo. If they could have lived with $250 for the device they would be far more popular, but no one wants another monthly fee, especially when it's a monthly DVR fee on top of a existing monthly cable fee.

Apple anything = no monthly fees, so they win.

My parents recently called me about buying a TiVo to record the Olympics. Soon as I told them there was a monthly fee they weren't interested, I told them to call their cable provider and see if they offered a DVR for less.

For TiVo to come back they'll have to partner with Hulu and Netflix, give me a set-top box that streams Hulu, Netflix and does DVR and we'll talk. TiVo has the big name, the hardware, the know-how, and the channels to get it into stores. Hulu and Netflix provides great content. I showed my parents Hulu on their PC and they're very interested for the older shows and movies but I don't know of a device cheap and simple enough for them to get Hulu onto their TV.

Thanks for posting this. It's interesting to note that while some consider BB guns and air guns to be shooting equipment, others like American Airlines, says "Pellet and BB guns are not considered firearms, and therefore, do not require any special handling or documentation.", so if someone thought "hey I'll spend $15 at walmart and buy a airgun" you can forget it. Also some airlines won't allows weapons for international flights for whatever reason.

While all this might sound simple and be great for professional photographers or videographers with thousands in equipment and travel frequently it won't help the average Joe flying to Florida for a week who doesn't own a gun and doesn't want to spend hundreds on a weapon and a special lock box.

So one job ended, he got another job, and he's been driving back and forth until the school yr ends and then they'll move. Yes he's driving 1,000 miles, but it's just until end of school year, and he already has an apartment at the new place. Who has this not happened to ever? Many times people will find work in other states and the job starts before the house sells, so the spouse stays behind and packs while the other works out-of-state and house hunts.

Judging from the increase in horrible ports to pc I'm wondering if someday all the "good" games won't be on consoles, seems with the more powerful consoles and strict antipiracy (how long did it take them to hack ps3? 4 yrs?) it seems devs don't want to bother with pc anymore unless the drm is horrible.

honestly my measly 1mbps up is fine, I'm more concerned with wireless. iPhone is one of the few phones that upload videos wirelessly, but to save the 3g network it first compresses the crap out of the video, and even then it takes several minutes to upload just 1 minute of highly compressed standard definition video. We really need better wireless.
