Just read the Slo-Tech interview with Richard Huddy. Search the page for "linux" and this is what you get...

Slo-Tech: When will ATI provide open source (Linux) developers with information about yours hardware so that they will be able to write drivers instead of reverse engineer them?

Richard Huddy: ATI gives Linux drivers quite a high priority - but there's just way too much intellectual property exposed in the low level chip interfaces so we don't put that into the public domain. I'm amazed that people can really reverse engineer drivers from our binaries - but I guess that shows just how keen the Linux community is to get the best out of their machines. Sorry I can't offer more on this!

ATi refuses to see this and devote all thier time making thier Windows customers happy over and over and over again...Fine with me, if ATi does not want to contribute we can always stick with nVidia who makes good drivers for thier hardware

But I can't find the individual pricing for the click-n=run on their site, the best I can find is the Lindows Plus ($49.95 value) which includes the C-n-R for one year

They have 2 RPMs, one for xfree4.1 and one for xfree4.2...xfree4.3 has be available for 6 months and they don't have squat for it. Unless you trust a third party driver for a card that is not even a Radeon, I would much rather see the CHIP MAKER releasing any kind of driver that works...binary or not

Not to mention these are only good for RPM based distros, if you are running something like Debian, Slackware or Gentoo you will need to futz around with Alien so you can even attempt to use the damn thing!

"$2999". In other words, they have subtracted

  19. Re:Yes, yes, so knee-jerk on Video Games Share Blame in Florida Murder Case · · Score: 1

But have any of you stopped to wonder why it is that video games are often so violent?

Too often this question is asked and every time no one likes the answer
Human Nature. Humans have a genetic trait of self destruction, since the beginning of time humans have killed other humans.

You can not blame video games on Cain killing his brother Able, in the Bible.
God did not flood the world to kill off everyone because they were playing too much Quake.
Jesus wasn't put on the cross to die slowly because he had a 100/1 kill/death ratio

Enough with the biblical references, I'm not even religious...

Alexander the Great did not conquer most of Europe because he lost his 55th level mage in Everquest
Jack the Ripper didn't kill prostitutes because he was busted with hacks too many times
ok, no one knows why he did it...but I doubt it was violent games)

IF you must try to figure out why games are getting more violent, it is most likely the Human thirst for death. If it can be made more realistic, lets do it to satisfy that genetic craving. Most serial killers never played a violent game in their life, but they were seriously mentally disturbed.
These stories where the "kid that play violent games killed someone" is FUD created by those that can not handle the fact that someone was mentally insane or had that natural urge to kill. They need to treat the problem, not the first excuse they can think of
