Problem is that spam does not constantly run searches on your system and every other system it hits. P2P is going to be the death of the internet if it is not controled/stopped soon.
When ever I hear the question "What is the best P2P client?" I always respond with, Best Buy, CompUSA, Borders, Suncoast and their online counterparts.
Pay for your stuff people, it's not that expensive...if you don't have a job and can't afford it, why are you using the internet? That costs just as much a month as a movie/book/game.
Between P2P and Spam, I'm suprised we have any bandwidth left!
Maybe those will work on my laptop? I've been having a hell of a time getting OpenGL enabled on this thing. It's got an ATi Radeon 9000 M, the xfree4.3 radeon driver works well, but glxgears returns 250fps...should be about 2000 for any decent 3D.
I see these are FireGL drivers, how do I determine which one I need to try? I know I need the xfree4.3 ones at least...I see only one for 4.3 but not sure if my card falls under this..

Great article! Good to see someone there doesn't care for the over hype and uselessness of the gimicks used. Sell your product, not your sister;-p
I admit I have not been able to make it to one of these (Chicago area and usually too busy with upgrades and whatnot at work) but hope to attend one in the future, as a non-fanboy;-)

Not even 5 years ago E3 was a great place to go, but it has turned into a friggin' carnival now. It use to be a good place of information, but now it's a cesspool of glitter and hype.
Do gamers really need 'booth babes' that are just for show and never played an electronic game in their life? Now if they were there looking good AND fragging up a storm in UT2003, then I would be impressed!
And those that think these girls actually help sell the products...get a life or rent some porn
I think G-Man trapped him in Zen world at the end of Half-Life®: Opposing Force(TM)
The end of Half-Life® G-Man gave Gordon a choice, if you didn't go into the portal Gordon is trapped in Zen forever. If you do go to the portal, Gorden accepts to work for the G-Man, I assume in HL2 Gordon entered the portal...
Never played Half-Life®: Blue Shift(TM), so I have no idea how it ended
It would be gNASA if they were using the gnome/GTK libraries, and kNASA if it is the KDA/QT libraires
Then as mentioned, Richard Stallman would make everyone call it GNU/NASA

Really, Debian and Gentoo are quite different. They both have a similar mechanism for downloading and installing software, but there is a huge difference.
Debian uses.deb files which are pre-built packages very similar to RPMs. Gentoo uses.emerge which is the source code, nothing pre-built.
When you "apt-get install package" in Debian it just downloads and installs the package. In Gentoo when you "emerge package" it gets the source, compiles and then installs. This takes a considerable more amount of time, but the package in optimized for your system, not a general build for everything (like Debian packages)
I have to disagree, my laptop has a 64mb ATi 9000m graphics card and with Red Hat 9. ATi does not have drivers that will work. Red Hat 9 uses XFree4.3 and glibc2.3, while ATi's Linux drivers were made for XFree4.2 using glibc2.2
nVidia released RH9 drivers the same week it was released and fixed the glibc compiler problems by the time I had RH9 downloaded 4 days before the official release
ATi is good, but they are slow at making their Linux updates. I do hope that ATi can catch up to nVidia in the drivers area, there is nothing like good competition to keep things moving
3DFX slowly died when the GeForces came out and then 3DFX was aquired by nVidia
So, what you are saying is now that nVidia is slowly dieing they will soon be aquired by ATi in the next couple of years?
I like that theory...hopefully it doesn't happen to nVidia, but it's a solid theory;-)
nVidia has been one of the more customer friendly video card makers...ever. They have full support for all platforms from Windows to Macs to Linux, this makes them, to me, one of the best companies around.
So now they are falling into the power trap of "we need to be better and faster then the others" which is only going to have them end up like 3DFX in the end. Cutting corners is NOT the way to gain consumer support.
As I look at it, it doesn't matter if your the fastest or not...it's the wide variety of platform support that has made them the best. ATi does make better hardware but their software (drivers) are terrible and not very well supported. If ATi would get the support that nVidia has been giving for the last few years, I would start using ATi hands down...It's the platform support that I require, not speed.
Reasons like this is why I only use it for Hotmail and NEVER use ANY online service to store inportant information, like Credit Cards, SS# and anything else that can easily be used for Identity Thieft

Buy a Lindows machine, format it and install Windows...this is not a good thing to do (or easy for those that don't know howto "fdisk/mbr" but for every Lindows machine sold it is +1 for Linux and 0 for Windows.
If they don't sign up for the CnR, that doesn't mean they are not using the Lindows. They could be like me and want to run other apps from the apt-get sources (not hard to enter ftp.debian.org in the/etc/apt/apt.sources
I do hope to see these sitting on the shelves at Wal-Mart soon, with a running display model to show people. Hope they have an image on hand for when people like me come along, open a terminal and "rm -rf/" =)
