April Fools Day ends at noon. OR so I'd always been told. This story posted at 11:59 so I guess it'll be OK.

Actually, what Slashdot did last year was do this April Fools day crap until midnight.. but in the last timezone to still be in April 1st. That means you're probably going to see this continue until sometime tommorrow.

No, no.. You interpreted what I said that wrong way, that's not what I meant. What I meant was, the female roommate I had didn't mind me going into her room late at night and playing with her box. In fact she encouraged me to, since she usually needed me to do something with it. She depended on me to work on her box. And man, did she have a nice one, I didn't mind one bit. I played with it a lot.

Me, personally, I would've gone into her room and gained direct access to her box.

Of course that has more to do with the type of female roommates I have had.

  13. Re:yay, overclocking locks... on Intel Patents Anti-Overclocking Technology · · Score: 1

And I tell you, AMD has always had a heat issue, and still does. Heat will more and more be a really big deal with smaller and smaller things, too.

Actually, Intel CPU's produce more heat than AMD CPU's, but they are just much more efficient at dissipating it (comparing the latest from each). With adequate cooling AMD processors don't have any heat issues, and they produce less heat. Personally, I'm more concerned about how much actual heat comes out of my PCs, since I can't afford to run the AC just to keep my computer room cool.

Now here's another reason Intel locking their multipliers is another bad idea: some of us underclock our processors, especially during the summers, or in cases where we just aren't using the CPU's for much.

I just really don't see how locking the multipliers = profit. People don't overclock their CPU's to avoid buying a newer processor, they overclock to drive their new processor to the edge. They often spend more money on cooling than it would to upgrade the CPU (though this can be a one-time investment and reused for each CPU upgrade), they are not trying to avoid spending. If you go and browse forums on overclocker sites, you'll find these are the people who are rushing out to buy the latest processor so they can try to overclock them, rather than waiting for the prices to fall into a reasonable range. It's more about having a PC that is running faster than anything else out there.

Why are they locking their multipliers? Intel is doing this, AMD is doing this. And they are both screwing themselves out of profits.

Doing this while employed for a company that is using C# and ASP is a great way to NOT keep your job.

Not if you're doing it on your own time. Though, yeah, a lot of us don't have enough free time to be coding outside of work (too busy getting drunk). But when I looked for jobs, I turned down the companies who were focused on Microsoft-based solutions, and went for the companies that were using cross-platform solutions; and I'm glad I did it; even with lesser pay the experience is so much more valuable. But, yeah, some people gotta eat and should take whatever work they can. But if you're stuck working with MS tools, keep learning the other stuff, otherwise you'll get stuck in a rut and you'll find yourself obsolete in a few years. Maybe you don't want to keep that job using C#/ASP...
