It is a good and simple idea.
But I can imagine 200000 lines of code like:
i++;
I suppouse that there is a need for a little more complicated system. Not to complex but it will have some work.
Some business men are afraid of GPL... why, becouse they left them too little control of their work.
It should be possible to use a combination of free and propietary software if it is not related. If not, companies will be afraid of investing in Linux.
I think that M$ will exploit this situation If it is not clear a company will not use Linux. For example ÂCan I use some GPL libraries for commercial software? Âunder wich conditions?
I think that is the best way to obtain a good driver support for most hardware devices and software programs
May be the odds are small... but the cmpensation should be small.
If they have lost, let say 10 billions, but theere are 300 lines...
IBM should pay 0.0025% of 10 billions... 250.000$
It is bad, but not too much for IBM. It seems that layers will cost much more.
And I'm talking aboutte worst case. 10 billions dollars...
Is that they do not affect compilation. So it is REALLY difficult to prove that they weren`t included or altered later to make the case more solid.
If we take out comments what would remain of the 80 lines.
Before everyhing someone should have said that Galileo is a comercial system.
GPS is a military weapon with some civil applications. So I is a high risk to build and strategy arround the GPS as it was shown during the Irak war when the US reduced the accuracy.
What if I am using it to guide planes? GPS doesnt garanty QoS. Surely mi users will like to have a garanty. So Galileo can be good news for everybody who uses GPS for civilian purposes. In fact, Galileo is suposed to be built for economic reasons. I could pay for itself in a few years. We are in a free world where everybody could start a business if it is profitable. aren't we?
The fact that U.S. trying to push Europe means that they are much more intervencionist than they were suppoused to be. We are a bit bored of limitation due to military or strange legal problems:
- Encriptation
- WiFI chips
- Software patents
and now Galileo. Thanks UE allows us the "non U.S." Debian. I just want to be free engineer.
In europe it is legal to use reverse engineering for compatibility reasons enabling your software to work with others people software (mainly Microsoft)
If you make the reverse engineering in europe you could develop compatible software and then export it to US. So it may be great news for us. In fact it is becoming really complicated to develope software for/at US. Patents, legislation, compatibility. It seems that more lawers than programmers are needed to write something more complicated than HelloWorld.exe.
There is a need for tools that enable the compatibility of the programs or we will end with a monopoly of all kinds of progrmas (And it is illegal to use your O.S. monopoly to obtainthe monopoly of let say...web browsers).
Can you imagine a Windows "powered" rocket? Fatal error... Uppps.
That was helpfull... But it must be better with 3d goggles

I will benefict everybody who would be able to listen to music and watch film from 50 years ago free.
