    May be it is not too much. But if you are spending much more than is needed t is a waste of money. Moreover. If yo want to control and impose conditions and at the same time make other people pay more than is needed it is a bad thing for everybody. Monopolies tends to make services unsussually expensive. And goverments begin with 16$ millions here, 20 millions theres... and never stop wasting... so there is US deficit.

    I think that google could make a easy move against windows. They only need to put a link to firebird. It is the hard way but harder and much nastier will play microsoft.

    google needs a fair internet market so that longhorn does not finish them. Just a link in google can change a lot of things.

    Any google-worker there?

    P.D: If anybody thincks that it is not fair, think about how fair is to include Explorer and Windows Media Player in windows.

    You need to be both. And if it is illegal it is clearly unethical. You are expected to follow the law. Unless the law is against human rigths.

    I am not talking only about liability. Busyness need confindende. In the practical world contracts and law is helpfull but much better if you do not need to go to a judge. Also workes feel and work better in an ethical workspace. And all the resources are better used. (like paper which sometimes seems to disapear or free fotocopies)

    Ethics are very important in busyness. Let's talk about Enron etc. In the long run it is a good policy to be honorable. You can be aggresive and honorable. It is not dificult. And, I want to make business I want an honorable partner. Otherwise I won't be able to sleep. Not becouse morals dilemas but becouse he can damage my interest from the simple capitalistic point of view

    Image that there is a clear notice in Samba, Apache Etc...

    As the SCO group has broken the terms of the GPL by redistributing our program XXXX under conditions prohibited by the GPL they have automatically lost their rigth to redistribute our software under this license according to line ?? of the GPL. They have not right at all to distribute XXXX unless they pay for a new different license.

    He would have been able to license his _NEW_ versions under a different lisence. It is possible to do the same with the old ones but the GPLed old version would continue to be free so it won't have any effect.

    Let's be positive. We needed a stronger Linux suport group than United Linux

    We need a group that promote linux compatible drivers. We need hardware with a "Works with Linux" Tag. We need someone to protect goberment from de FUD, and someone who can promote some kind of open and voluntary standars so that All distributions become closer and closer.

    So there must be an agrupation of more Linux vendors, distributions and even firms who have interest in the field of Linux. Not only RedHAT or SUSE but also, IBM, ORACLE, etc... And of course, not only firms: Debian must be represented, etc etc... It will have some kind of strength wouldn't it?

    And, last but not least, it should be made so that even if SCO or M$ were members it could continue existing with some annoying visitors in the mettings.

    Let's hope it is a beggining forempowement of linux users

    If there is an big electrical company building another company sometimes there is an antimonopoly comision who needs to aprove the fusion.

    M$ has enough money to buy any company making a good operating system. At least, Tron is free.

    Dear SCO,

    Linux fill have a new buisness model apart from selling support to GPLed Software. It will be:

    1.- Be sued by SCO
    2.- Suing back for damages and may be for using Linux/GNU or BSD software in System V
    3.- Profit!!!

    SCO should be developing new software if they want to survive in today's world. Instead they are focusing on lawers and nonsense... thats a bad path for a company.

    In the worst case they may not be able to compensate or all de the FUD and loses that are causing.

    Be prepared SCO workers... you may work for linux in the future!

    I see No great things. But it is the kernel. May be we are overestimating the importance of the kernel. Al least, my whishlist are not related with the kernel appart from the hardware support with is huge problem.

    An incredible good point.

    It seems that tractors, ships and even cars that move by themselves could save a lot of money. But then there is a need o a great quality of service that gps won't give. During the war of Irk the precission was reduced... can you imagine a ship entering in the harbor with +/- 50 m... a bit of dangerous. Thats where Galileo is supoused to solve.

    You can't seriously tell me you would want Gore running the war against terrorism? We would all be dead by now...

    May be we will be more successull finding the weapons of mass destruction. really think that We would all be dead by now...? Some soldiers may be alive. The US external image would be not so bad and US citizens may have keept the right to a judgement in cases of terrorism.

    I can't say that GORE would have been better, but I' sure that somewhere there must be a better president.

    are you joking? SQL Server (for testing)? Internet Explorer (for testing websites)? You may need to use both for COMPATIBILITY reasons but for the normal users there are plenty of databases and browsers much better than thouse.

    Do these people realize how important it is in these times of heightened patriotism to reflect American values? American Values? You mean, Canada, USA, Mexico, Brasil, Argentina Chile, Venezuela, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Peru, Uruguay, Paraguay, Honduras, Guatemala, Colombia, Panamá, Cuba, Costa Rica, Republica Dominicana, Trinidad y Tobago...etc, etc, etc... (Some names are in Spanish...) American Values are against the red? It is forbidden. I thougth it was part of the US flag. Let's change it to green to make it more ecological. Let's heigthen one big universal value: freedom. Open software is about freedom. Open software developers work for freedom. I hear this word too much in the TV. But at the same time they are removing every day another little piece of freedom. Please, we can have a red Icon a not be a devil comunist. There may even be nice comunists. Thats the good thing of democracy (We could ask Is Irak free now? but it would be off topic)

    You may think that the expectation of cheap games has a big influence in the sells. Some people won't be able to buy more than two or three games. You are not going to buy a console for 2 or 3 games. Of course it also happends the opposite. More success more copyrigth infringment Just an hypothesis.

    I use M$ in a nuclear power plant (without ava... you know why).Imagine there is a little bug that causes something relly big compared with Chernobill

    What is M$ going to do to?

    Thank you very much. I'm going to another shop becouse you want me to pay for something I'm not going to use.

    We are clients. If a shop receives a pair of clients that refuse to buy a full PC becouse of their M$ policy they may start to think about it.

    The GPL was designed becouse some firms where using the code that some people had donated to the world and once it was modified and used by some companies they found they had to pay for it.

    All the IP in Linux and Open Software is a huge donation to the world. Free, just becouse some people think that we don't need money to help our peers.

    But SCO wants, once again, to use and control what others have built with the effort of years. They are kindnapping the IP that is free for the world. They known that even if they found some copied lines they would be changed soon (a day or two) They maintain the secret becouse it is the only power.

    I think that IBM should force them to act soon.

    On the other hand you may want to rent hosting.

    30.000 * 5 MB = 150 GB. Several hosting sites gives more than 200 GB/ month at economic prives (400 $ )

    You may want to rent several mirrors so that it is redundant and they don't get colapsed by the trafic.

    As an aditionall advantage your firm does keep al their resourses free of all the problems asociated to the peaks. But it is important to be aware of the condition of the hosting.

    Just for internal distribution it is easy to use distribution list so that only one copy has to travell across MAN and WAN. LAN could use Gygabit ethernet.
