Google seem to be falling behind the curve when it comes to releasing new products.
From a position a few years (months ??) ago when they rolled out GMail and google maps,
it now seems that they are just reimplementing what others have already done.
For example GCalendar is equivilent to Yahoo Calendar and this new extension is very like del.icio.us with the
social part discarded.
I like using Google and the majority of their offerings are good but there seems to be a "me too' approach to some
of the latest stuff...
The chinese have probably bet that with the rate that technology is now progressing and the slowness that the WTO/courts operate it will take a couple of years to get any decision against them. By that time they will have already made their money.
This will get really interesting in a while when software patents are infringed upon. I can't see any of the major players bitching about patents particularly when the chinese can shut them out of the market.
"Indigo will replace the five different programming methods that Microsoft has today for sending messages between two programs in a distributed system, said Ari Bixhorn, the lead product manager for Web services strategy at Microsoft."
Hmm....Thats going to upset a lot of people who use
those methods. There gonna be a lot of porting work
to be done....
I'm not an American but I can imagine that this process would be humiliating. However I feel that if
at the end the monitors come out and say that the process was entirely fail then all the better.
The USA always goes on that it is a leading light of
democracy. Now is the time to put that mantra to the test.
I can't help wondering how they are going to implement this just from the related information point of view. Sure GSM traffic seems trackable via the standards IMSI/IMSE. But how are they going to relate internet traffic to an individual. The would also need to capture DHCP logs etc, etc.
It might be easy to capture and store all the data but without something to pull it all together, its could be just a waste of hard disk space
If a trip into orbit costs hundreds of millions for space tourists, I imagine that a trip around the moon would cost billions. I might be nieve but for an individual to spend that amount of money on a tourist trip is obscene with the amount of world povery. We all bitch about Bill Gates and his amount of money but at least he uses his billions for some
good via the Gates foundation.
It costs a lot of money to develop software hence the software manufactures have to charge a substantial amount of money for it. Customers balk at paying for the software and some look at 'alternative' methods of getting that software. Software manufactures see their sales dropping and drop prices to increase sales but can't as they have to cover their costs. Hence they try and drop their costs and look to cheaper methods of manufacturing i.e. outsourcing.
And we all know how/.ers feel about outsourcing.
While the major manufactures can wear the cost of piracy (to a certain extent) it has major impacts on smaller operators. For example look to the PC games market, how often do we hear of companies going tits-up. Software piracy might not be totally to blame but it certainly will have an impact.
Linux fans had better hope that this goes well because if it doesn't you can guarantee that Microsoft will be hopping up and down screaming "I told you so".....or "Ich tolden youze sozen" (in German)
I wonder if once its fully released if microsoft will say that there is a major flaw in previous version of media players and force people to upgrade to the newer version.
With the latest computer viruses people are applying patches without really understanding the impacts of what functionality they introduce like the newer versions of DRM. Maybe this is how microsoft envisage migrating users to DRM.
Wouldn't it be more useful for microsoft to have a patent on people punching the keyboard when windows locks up....Imagine the money at 5c per punch...
I assume that the people who need these computers really know what they are doing and would rip the microsoft sales people a new arsehole if they tried to bullshit them with 'vaporware' or crap features....Its one thing to try and convince a bean counter that windows is a better platform but a totally different activity trying that with people who know what they are doing.....
The HIV virus and the anti-virus duke it out and some of the HIV virus mutated to make it resiliant to the anti-virus would that make it more difficult to cure/treat......
While people may joke about this technology and the whole id verification process/big brother, the fact is that its here to stay and I'd rather that flaws like this one are discovered in the initial test stages than having to spend hours proving who I am at an airport.
We should be thankful that at least he understands what he's writing about event from user rather than geek level. There are a lot of people out there who write reviews/opinions without the full facts etc...
The question which has to be asked is that the lifetime of the rover is finite and what else is there to look at which the rover is capable of getting to in that time.
Sure they could go look at other rocks or they could risk winning 'big biccies' by going 'over-the-top'...........remember 'who dares wins' and other crap cliched sayings etc,etc
I work for a company where time to market is crucial we literally don't have time to get the product fully spec'ed and design.....most times the developed product is not even close what the "invisager" imagined...but the luxury of having a fully spec/designed...
I find that the best thing to "at least have" is a high level list of requirements/use cases even...
I don't think that Europe will follow exactly as they are just as when united they are just as powerful as the USA economically anyway.
The FTA is seen by the press here in Australia as a bit of a joke as the US got most of the consessions without giving many to Australia
Wasn't there some research on the use of mob. phones
which concluded that people raised their voices in response to the volume of noise that they were hearing on the handset e.g. the louder the caller talked the louder the calleree spoke. Would it be hard to put some code into the phone which would adjust the volume automatically depending on the gain of the source, like you can do with some mp3 converters so that no track seems louder the rest...
Are going to love this. Imagine the number of court cases which will litigate agains CC when they claim that the driver was distracted by the billboards.
I wonder how this will relate to the laws which are being considered for banning in-car dvd players....

I wonder will they enforce region encoding on these DVDs or will they be zone free....

it sounds like a plot for a good movie...I wonder if hollywood would be interested... quick to the batmobile.....
