    I suggest you ponder the following statement:
    If something is worth doing, it's worth doing right.
    It's what we elitist, insecure petty nerds call 'compliant'

    Then again, it's quite hard to write 'wrong' ASCII, but you'll probably ask me to ponder:
    If something is hard to do, it's not worth doing at all

    Some of us who give a damn actually need certain HTML features.

    As to your questions, everything I do has the security, uptime, accessibility, and reliability that I need.

    I have one more question for you:

    Are you over 40 and stuck in a dead end IT support or Junior Admin position? Or are you by any chance Eric S. Raymond?

    Did any of you people actually take a look at Hello? (the IM they acquired)

    the main focus of this thing is photo sharing. Granted, it does so encrypted, which is a Good Thing, but doesn't that seem a bit ... unflexible? there are probably better IM solutions, with more possibilities and a wider range of features (no, i won't say Jabber .. don't make me ... NO i said!!!)

    And where is the 'Search' focus of Google?

    we've had searchable mail, Searchable desktop, ...
    I'd hate it if people contacted me based on what they found in archived chatlogs of me.

    Google's inching closer to a real Privacy-Soul-Sucking-Search!

    no, seriously now, a company with 7000 installed windozes has probably grown quite dependant on them. Migrating to another platform is not something that is done overnight.

    'Replacing' is a very heavy word. If they choose to move away from windows, this will be a process that'll take several years, and an extended period of mixed environments.

    about 8% of Windows sessions require a machine reboot: this means that, for every 100 times you work for an uninterrupted period (a 'session') you will have 8 sessions that will be interrupted by a reboot.

    "The average rate of failures requiring a system reboot has been measured at around 8% per session.": This is my favorite! this means that only 8% of all failures that you have in one windows session requires you to do a reboot

    what it really says is that 8% of the time of your session is spent rebooting for errors, IMHO

    my french is rather good, but the article is rather vague. i deduce this because elsewhere, this percentage means 'time spent on' ...

    Solaris is the name of the suite of apps surrounding this OS

    Eclipse is known for it's good GUI api (or at least it's better than regular swing)

    the only way to make voice commands work is to integrate them into your GUI

    so your OK-button object does not only have a textlabel-value but also an audiolabel.

    this works both ways, one way for accessibility ('hear' what button you will click) and the other way is using your own voice to 'click' it (by saying 'Ok')

    Boy, you are just trapped inbetween college and corporate ...

    On one hand you bash the corporate linuxes, and in the same breath you judge the 'GNU assholes'

    oh and, try working in a corporate environment.
    And read up on the Software lifecycle, development is just a fraction of the cost. $400 for RedHat buys you a whole lot more than just the free software.

    But then again, why should you, you're an excellent software engineer.

    I'm sick and tired of hearing people beg for OSx86
    The power and stability of Apple lies solely in the fact that it's not just an OS on proprietary hardware, it's a complete platform!

    And yes, i know the urban legend of the in-house OSX version for intel cpus: What apple would do with this is create x86 based hardware, and again sell it as an immutable package with a small subset of components that exist in the x86 world. Don't expect this to run on your Dell.

    Oh and to keep this on-topic, WinFS won't be ready in 2006; Spotlight Technology in HFS+ will be in 2005
