Same with me! I'm in my mid twenties and I think my body just got used to it after working for 3 years with the same sleep cycle. I can't even sleep late on the weekends anymore. I wake up by 9 at the latest. Even when I'm on vacation, I wake up by 9 unless I go to sleep at like 6am or something then I wake up at 12.

We are looking at reclassifying some jobs to overtime eligible in the new Fiscal Year.

What our company did was 'reclassify' these employees to be paid by the hour. They are also taken out of the bonus pool. So what ends up happening is even if paid by the hour you have to work just as many hours as a salaried employee that is part of the bonus pool to make equal amount of money. Same shit, same hours, different name.

Poker can definitely be positive EV if you know what you're doing. The recent upswing in poker has been a dream come true for a lot of poker players. Even the casual players can crush the $2-$4 games because there are a lot of truly awful players out there now.

The biggest growth has been online poker. That has to be the best thing that's happened. You see, playing poker doesn't have to be about sitting next to drunks, spending ungodly hours at the casinos, and controlling your shaking hands anymore. It's all about using technology to your advantage. Read my post http://ask.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=107998&cid =9182752 here from a few days ago for more details.

If you are going to 'gamble' for fun anyway, why not make a few bucks doing it instead of losing a few bucks?

  5. Re:More profitable that poker on Economics of Online Gaming · · Score: 1
You joke but poker can be very profitable. You have to realize that playing poker online is vastly different than playing poker at a casino or some card room. You're wasting all the free cycles on your computer if you're not using it to the fullest. Playing poker in the 21st century at home is all about the aid of databases and poker calculators. In time, you won't need a calculator, but databases only get more and more useful as you have more and more data on yourself and more importantly your opponents. And the thing is, you don't have to write any of this yourself (google for PokerTracker for the app that stores all your hands in a database) . There are software already written for purchase for a decent price. With the bonuses some of the places are giving out to attract new players, you can start with a small bankroll and slowly build up to a decent roll.

Taking the biggest sites as an example:

At Party Poker, deposit with code PTY12345 to get 20% up to 100. So depo 500 and get 100 bonus. Play 500 hands of .5-1 to release the bonus. Withdraw your money or if you have more float, setup IGMPAY and deposit 500 using code IGMPAY and get another 100 bonus. Player 500 hands to release the bonus.

You can do the same at Empire Poker using the code POKERMADESIMPLE. Personal info could all be the same, just need different screen name.

So once you clear 2000 hands, hopefully you've gotten a hang of it and have a few hands in your database and made a few bucks. From bonus alone, you should have 400 extra which gives you a decent roll to start playing. I'd say the vast majority of people here could play profitably enough given some practice to earn an extra few hundred a month. For the professional players, you can pull 60-80k a year or more.

I too went over the site via a link from Slashdot and concluded it's nothing more than interactive fiction. It's a science fiction novelette taking advantage of a new medium. I enjoyed reading it and it was the first time I've seen the net used this way. Very interesting way of structuring a story to be interactive.

I went through every line of his 'postings'. The guy didn't predict anything. He refused to give any hard predictions saying that even if he remembered who won xyz game 20-30 years ago, it might have changed just by him being here. It's a different world line simply because he traveled back in time. He has a reason for avoiding everything. That's fine, he had to keep his readers hooked.

Still hard to believe that Raph Koster has come so far since LegendMUD. I started with that mud in 95 and played on and off for 5 years wasting thousands of hours. Although the mud peaked at only about 80 players, it was still very enjoyable. The man use to take part in his own MUD, building a tight and interesting community.

He's definitely a talented designer also knowing the importance of a good mix of playerbase is essential to sustaining a in-game society. I can't vouch for any of the graphical MUDs he's been part of but I will always remember LegendMUD and late late nights doing quests, rescue parties, and infamous clan wars. (Knights and Grendels baby!)

There not ALL illegal. There are books in UK, Europe, and Australia. Supposedly books in UK are regulated and perfectly legal to operate out of. It's the ones in Costa Rica, Panama, Antigua, and other small islands that you have to worry about. You can also take precautions by using a credit card to fund a third party account which then transfer money into the books. Very few banks will take gaming transactions which is why you need a third party. But by putting it on a credit card, you can charge back if absolutely necessary. This is also why very few banks take these transactions now. Some dumbass loses 5 grand over the weekend on a few games and decides they can't afford it so they charge back.

You don't need much capital. With so many online sportsbook to choose from, you basically carry no risk. When someone bets with you for a dime, just bet the opposite online. Remember that you don't need to charge your guys -110. You can charge them -115 or even -120. You are guaranteed a profit. Start small with a few dimes and don't extend too much credit. There are also a lot of bonuses around to make something extra. If you're vigilant enough, there could be scalping opportunities, reduce juice days, reduce juice plays, reload bonuses, and tons of other stuff.

I totally agree with you. When I first came out of the movie, I thought it didn't measure up to the hype or the first movie. But after thinking about it and then reading discussion and issues raised on many forums, I am convinced that this is a very very impressive movie that surpases the first. From early comments and reviews, it looks like there are those that 'get it' and those that don't. Those that don't will bash the movie for long boring sequences that have little relevance. Truth is it's very hard to catch all the little things in the dialogs and scenes. The long sequences are actually pretty good at telling the plot. The long orgy scene leads credence to Zion being able to reach 250k people in 100 years with only 23 people. I thought it was an excellent movie and now I'm inclined to find out more about philosphy.
