We're already the most watched (ie under surveillance from static cameras here, there and who knows where) nation on the planet, now this. While I can see the point of cracking down on banned (etc) drivers, stopping people in the street to take their fingerprints because they are suspected of committing an offence, well where does that start and end..?
Brown pickpockets us while Blair takes our pictures.
You say recordings have got better, yet much of what you listen to today is still recorded to 2 inch tape with vintage amps and compressors or emulation of such amps/compressors during the mastering/recording process.
Our Systems Manager at work. Hates macs, get's his junior to do any repair work on them (basically because he has no clue what he's doing with a mac) and wants to see them all replaced by 'state-of-the-art' Dell win2k boxes. So he buys a new mobo and a wireless nic. The mobo is a VIA chipset, the nic is Netgear, same brand as his wireless router. The nic refuses to do what it should do (lol). According to Netgear it's a joint problem with VIA chipsets and AMD cpus (i.e. they have no clue what the problem is, lol).
Thankyou. 1/4 of the way through 1000+ pots and I find someone else who understands what 'unlimited use' means. People should always read the small print (and also in this case the AUP) wjhen they sign up any contract, tho I guess with signing up for an ISP the majority don't...
That would be the philosophy in our house especially when you have a missus who likes clutter. It's funny as I kinda walked into it, but when we were dating she was the last sibling to leave her parents' house, so not only did she have her own bedroom, but also used the spare bedroom as a TV watching/lounging room which most of the time had about 1sq ft of clear floorspace, tho I never thought our own house would be the same. How niaive of me...
I'm thinking in terms of artistic emotion, ie the creative rush that causes (eg) a painter to paint what he sees how he does, which defines his indivual style making it instantly recognisable as a (eg) Picasso. Surely for that, AI would have to be totally free thinking and able to absorb environments and surroundings much as we do.
This also speaks well to IBM's ability to get chips out of the factory and into systems
hmmm, to me it says IBM have a surplus of 1.8ghz chips and a shortage of 2ghz chips, especially when Apple's line is to shift demand away from the popular 2.0GHz PowerPC G5s
$500 seems a very reasonable figure although I suppose you have to take into account what these people are paid in the first place. The rest of the money (from the employers POV) I would put aside for a rainy day, you never know what's around the corner...
I get 10 ($15) Christmas bonus from my company to be spent on whatever Christmas party employees decide to organise themselves. That's in a pressured deadline-based job in graphic design which doesn't pay particularly well to start with. $500 (~350) would make a real difference to my Christmas...
'HL's great strength is not its originality, it's the level of perfection and polishing of every single of its elements, from the gameplay to the default keyboard layout to the auto-save system. Things that stem not from great technology or brilliant ideas but from a lot of playtesting, a good dose of common sense, and a refusal to settle for "good enough" just to meet the deadline'
*thumbs up*

Amusing tale for you:

There are separate Jag and Panther updates

Wouldn't AI have to exhibit a degree of emotion?

... that software coming out in 18 months time or so is superior to today's offerings.
lol, my router always resets just short of 50 days
Indeed, it tickled me when I first read it.
