    I really want to build my linux system from scratch, I hate installing a distro and not knowing what software i don't need or later how to upgrade, etc. I want to know where things are, how they work, what else I can get them to do...

    Do you linux Gurus recommend this? Or What about distros like gentoo and sourcemage? Has anyone had success with sourcemage?

    Is there a book that you'd recommend that clearly explains everything I would need to know to do this? I know about the RTFManPages and all that, but a nice book helps.

  8. Cool oldschool on Classic BBS 'Door Games' Reborn · · Score: 0

    I used to run a BBS, the best were interbbs games of Falcon's Eye, though I think some of our enemies used to cheat something fierce. Tons of fun nonetheless. Was always thinking about writing something similar that runs off a central server so that no one could easily cheat :)

  13. Re:Nothing will replace c++ on The Hundred-Year Language · · Score: 1

    Would you really want to code in VB or COBOL or something? Sure the pure assembly is a joke, but i much prefer a powerful "dangerous" language over an ugly "don't worry we'll protect you" one. Though I do like java, which is weird :)

  14. Re:Nothing will replace c++ on The Hundred-Year Language · · Score: 1

    Yep, you can't be a code wussy if you want to code in c++. If something is carefully thought out with c++ all will be fine. If some code monkey shitface write a bunch of crap of course it will be impossible to maintain. That's part of why c++ is perfect :) Give the code monkey's VB and the leet hax0rs c++

  15. Nothing will replace c++ on The Hundred-Year Language · · Score: 0

    C++ will get a little better, maybe even easier to use! There will be more crap languages that try to make everything better like VB but real programmers will never use them (even with a gun held up to their heads, i could be making 65k if i accepted that vb code monkey job but am happier making less than half that hax0ing in c++). Real men code pure assembly but don't mind c and c++. C++ is just too perfect and powerful.
