Seems even the Tulsa NBC affiliate picked up the story. They've got a video online at http://www.kfor.com/global/category.asp?c=9667, it's the Tuesday 10pm news story. The CentOS bit starts at around 4 minutes 13 seconds, and is around 3 minutes long.
I'm not linking directly to it, because we've already crushed their bandwith enough for one week, but feel free to check it out. It's not at all flattering to the City Manager...
While the general response is to call for his incompetent head on a plate (not undeserved), we as a community should be making an effort to be polite to this idiot. If we want to continue the march of linux, we need to be prepared to deal with incompetence and people like this in a warm fashion, and mock them later with dignity and respect. If all he gets are threats, harrassing calls etc, he's going to assume that all linux people are alike, and that we're all terrorists and hackers. Please, if you're going to email/call/mock him, do so with dignity and respect as a member of the community. Don't prove him right by getting on his level. We're all better than him, so act like it.
Eh, it's a little late to continue this but sure...
The original poster listed them in the present-tense as supporting nazis. That is not a factual reference.
Original: even if they are nazi supporters.
It was a troll, and was modded as such. I do not dispute that IBM supported nazis, but I will take pot shots at trollings when the opportunity presents itself.
Godwin's Law now in effect. Thanks for playing.. now go sit down.:-P

Not to add to the continual Linux vs Windows battle-royal here on/. but this is exactly where being able to look at the source code helps. There would be no conspiracy theory if we could see the code related to WMF files. The most we'd be able to do is say "Damn, why'd they do it that way?". As one of the readers already posted, Mark Russinovich has seen the NT source, and is in the best position to say what is or isn't in the code. The rest of us are left to listen to whatever source seems credible at the time and hope they're right. Hiding things from your customers leads to just this sort of public speculation, and when you're the voted "Most hated monopoly", public speculation isn't really ever going to be in your favor.
I have to wonder about the smoke and mirrors of Unisys, since they had a magician doing their sales pitch at the LinuxWorld Expo in SF earlier this month. Pulling a button out of some CIO's ear, attempt to pull a fast one on the Linux community.. who knows. I'll keep my distance.
If you'll recall, there was a/. article about this earlier in the week, in which a house rep was furious over the use of his image in the movie because the way Moore clipped the video to suit his own needs. While I do think that we need to be aware of the actions of our leadership, this movie amounts to nothing more than propoganda to drive Moore's vendetta. Not to say it doesn't have a few valid points, but it's the media equivalent of cutting letters from a magazine for a ransom note.
I wonder when one of the pop-up blocker companies are going to start filing suit under the DMCA for circumvention of their blocker. It would be nice to see a REAL use of the DMCA for once instead of a big business scare tactic.
When it was called Ernest goes to Jail. This is akin to reading the details of a year long train wreck. I somehow feel dirty every time I read the next SCO news.
Most of the filesharing software people are so eager to defend often install a who's who of spyware/adware today. For an interesting little test, take a clean windows system (no jokes) and install your iMesh kazaa, grokster or any other filesharing program. Then run adaware or spybot against it. You'll see new.net, shop-at-home select agent, gator, and many other nasty little goodies. File-sharing programs running on windows claim to be fighting for user/'fair use' rights, when they are simply fighting for their bottom line as a company. The fun part is that for nearly all of them, if you remove the spyware/adware the programs cease to function. Just my $0.02
Okay, this guy is the driving force behind the Enlightenment window manager. He's written several libraries and other X related apps in fairly common usage. This level of troubleshooting is just a bit of an insult don't you think?
How this got modded as Interesting and not Flamebait is beyond me. As far as Raster's coding skill goes, Let's see you write something akin to Enlightenment, or edje or evas, or any number of other apps and libraries. Now, in true open source spirit, did you even install his test app and submit results to help make anything better?

What, Skype founders can't read slashdot too?

kazaa-lite still contains spyware/adware according to adaware and spybot. It's better, but it's not totally safe either.
