XP does not come with the codec to play DVDs... it usually comes bundled on the driver disk that comes with the DVD drive. Mine came with PowerDVD and it wasn't until I installed that program off the DVD driver disk that WMP could play DVDs...
This is why I believe that I'm perfectly within my rights to use deccs to decrypt DVDs when I'm running Linux as it is the Linux equivalent of the DVD codec that I purchased when I bought my DVD drive in the first place.
some of those "linux zealots"" are not real Linux users, but are part of the anti-Linux fud campaign, deliberately planted to make Linux users look like raving, foaming nuts.
There's been a whole rash of them lately in the Linux newsgroups etc. all trying to drive out the curious by making abusive replies to their questions.
"Mr. Attaway, if you don't want consumers to exercise their fair use rights to backup "motion pictures" then simply stop selling "motion pictures" to consumers"
Which is precisely what they want to be able to do with the new DRM systems that Microsoft is coming out with soon... this will allow them to rent the movies etc. out to the customer on a subscription basis. When said customer lets the subscription lapse, then the movie or whatever will no longer playback.

items 3 and 4 in that quote from Darl sink their case against Novell as well... as SCOG cannot show that copyright actually transferred from Novell to Caldera(?) in the Asset Purchase Agreement. There is no instrument of conveyance in existence and the contract for the APA doesn't fulfill the requirements of the copyright act section 204(a).
to come out... cos then the price should drop for all the existing addons and bundles... "The Sims" is one game where the price has remained high for a really long time... I think just about every other game from that period is now to be found on budget labels or the bargain bin...
just goes to show how well designed the original is
You are a twit... would you like to try reading the F'ing article next time... Planmaker for MS-Windows already exists and is refered to on their webpage... but I can't give you the precise link 'cos the site's been slashdotted... Here's the griff from the google cache of their home page
SoftMaker is dedicated to creating office productivity software for popular operating systems, including Windows, Windows CE, and Linux.
Our current English-language products comprise TextMaker and PlanMaker, a word processor and a spreadsheet for Windows, Linux, Pocket PCs, and Handheld PCs, and MegaFont XXL, a 10,000-fonts typeface library for Windows, Linux, and OS/2.
I'm part of the public beta program for the Linux versions and am a happy customer using the Linux version of Textmaker.
Also Softmaker are perfectly happy sticking to the English and European markets... they're obviously doing well as they're still in existence after several years.
but you're stuffed cos a lot of XP security patches these days have the pre-requisite of SP1/SP1a having been installed, which you can't do if your serial number is on the blacklist that comes inside SP1/SP1a...
1) the display is good, colour and 320x320
2) built in MP3 playing and with the right software, you can play the mp3s and.oggs while you read.
3) built in camera... yeah it's rather low res, but dead handy if you need one in a hurry such as at an accident and you want to record whare things are in relation to each other and the damage etc... or if you spot something interesting and you want to record it for later (lets you append short notes to the image)
4) plenty of reader software available... no.lit but stuff that rubbish... everything else that matters can be read with the appropriate software and quite a bit of the software is either free, or low priced or else has a cut down, no nag free version.
5) even better... should be quite reduced in price now as the new Zire 72 is out...
6) has USB interface that automagically works in Linux using Korganiser...
7) built in rechargeable battery that gives you several hours life at full brilliance and can be recharged quite quickly via the cradle (doesn't need the PC either when you do that, just the power adaptor and cradle)
All in all a very solid device. I've had mine for a year now and have been very happy until I cracked the screen the other week and am having to go through the rigmarole of getting it repaired... looks like a "new" one will cost less than having the screen replaced...
Excellent job... my local LUG is currently planning an Install Day and I've just posted some details of your WikiWikiWeb etc. to our mailing list discussion for it...
I'd give a live link for our website but it's gone AWOL...:(
"The whole idea of them actually standing behind their product and answering consumer phone calls is a myth."
especially when almost the very first question you get asked on the support site (after the country question) when you try to make a technical query is where you got your product from... and if you answer that it came with my computer then it's the bum's rush for you to the very first exit...
been done before... the "I LOVE YOU" one replaced *.jpg files with *.jpg.vbs copies of itself that became activated when the user tried to view the file. Our tech publishing house had a very close call when a manager's laptop was connected to the admin share... only those images (just clip-art) on the admin share got clobbered cos that manager didn't have write access to the graphics department's share.

no... Linus is far too busy playing music to his newts...
legally to get it at OEM price you have to purchase a major item of hardware... such as motherboard or processor... not a poxy little IDE cable...

It never came to court... but there's an easy way to check if it is Microsoft... a sum of that magnitude should be on the relevant SEC filing shortly.
nice to know they've effectively got my money twice then...

you'd think that he'd have made sure his own servers could withstand a slashdotting now wouldn't you...
