  1. It is an issue... on Torvalds Describes DRM and GPLv3 as 'Hot Air' · · Score: 0

What happens when I do want to buy a movie, I do want to entertain myself, and I do want to play it on systems I choose? If I have bought the media, why do I not have rights to use the media as I wish, without profit or gains? The big issue comes into play when lawmakers begin to draft legislation that then backs these forms of protection and for the most part lock entire nations to them. Unless this DRM thing is a FAD and will fade away into nothingness, this is going to become a big issue in the future.

I run Gentoo on my xbox already. Basically, all you need to do is patch your kernel with patches from xbox-linux.sf.net, and patch xfree/x.org w/ patches from the same place. Other than that, gentoo will compile and use packages just as any other x86 machine would.

between Microsoft and the open source community. W/ open source the src is open, so we work together to improve it. However, when a proprietary company's greatest asset, thier source code, is released or leaked unauthroized, someother individuals will use it to spit that very company, as they have what is most valuable to the company. Just my 2 cents ;-D

Th reason it occurs is because of the filters on the pancam. On #mastro on irc.freenode.net: if someone wants to post a "conspiracy beatdown" on slashdot, here't the tech docs of pan-cam, and its filters, which are labeled (l1-8, r1-8) the same way the raw images are http://athena.cornell.edu/pdf/tb_pancam.pdf

  10. Can anyone say Indrema? on Microsoft Patents Interactive Entertainment · · Score: 1

The INdrema had a similar goal.. content on demand. They had hoped that you could buy a game online, and then play it. Additionally, what happens to those companies that "stream" games? In any case, this is obviously going to be an addon to the xbox, thus eliminating any pvr functionality ina any future homebrew xbox pvr/vod app. (Xbox mediaplayer anyone?)

You've got to be kidding me? Jeeze, it seems as if most people here are gung ho for an orwellian society. POsitive id through computer: no thanks. A system such as this, or biometrics is easily fooled, all you need are finger for fingerprint I.D. or someone else's license. Only the bad guys would be able to roam the roads free, the rest of us would be penalized.

  12. In Other News on DeCSS Arguments in CA Supreme Court Case · · Score: 1

Viewing the source html to a webpage is theft, Microsoft owns all code written with Visual Studio, and NO ONE own anything that they purchase. OPen Standards? HAHA, whatevers made with those is owned by the standard bodies. What is up with this though? Why does everyhting have to be someone's IP, or a threat to it? Just get off the boat if you can't take changes in the marketplace!! (And let someone else take your place.) Additionally, if piracy goesup, it is not because of these tools, it's because of the economy. Economy goes down, people have less cash to spend on recreational activities. IT"S THAT SIMPLE!! (same goes for music)

Really though, how can they expect to stop a worldwide movement, not piracy, but the open source movement.
