Laptop:
AMD 64 3700+, 1gb ram, 100gb HD, 100mb ATI Radeon X600. it stays pretty solid just under 30fps...which is still playable. peaks at about 45 or so, dips into low 20's for instances every once in a while...
I found that by upping everything from medium to high and keeping textures at medium, keeping shadows off and keeping volumetric lighting off, the framerate only dropped about.5 fps. To be clear, i had shadows and volumetric lighting off ALL the time, not just when i cranked up the settings.
I found that if you have a midrange system you can turn everything to max, but keep volumetric lighting and all shadows turned off and the framerate stays pretty constant no matter what other settings are enabled or at what quality. The only thing i saw other than that, that hit my performance significantly was enabling full quality textures because i don't currently have enough ram ("only" a gig) to keep all the textures in. The HD swapped a TON with textures all the way up.
I think people are perfectly happy with "only" 100 songs on their phone. I've seen several people with them already, and they just came out... In my observation, it took longer for the "razr" to "make it big" than is has for the "rokr." Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems to be the case to me...
I actually agree with you. This is EXACTLY what MS wants... For a bunch of people who largely proclaim hatred for MS, everyone's playing right into their hands...
"Microsoft Defender" has an almost patriotic ring to it. I think microsoft purposely does this sort of thing to make people think certain things are more important than they really are... It kinda reminds me of a dumb old man.:-P
I have a feeling that they namd Defender as such because they couldnt find anyone to take that job. Who wants to defend Microsoft anyway?:-P
oh come on... If i wrote some open source app for windows it's not like i have some secret mission to promote Microsoft. Keeping it open source just means that you can take my source-code and port it to LINUX, thus furthering your "secret mission" of linux domination.:-P
I hold more respect for people willing to produce open source products for windows. Mainly because of the people this article is written about. I think there's some sort of irony to giving away something so open on top of a platform that stands very much for closed. Maybe that's just me though. I don't see a lot of people griping when their Closed-Source ATI linux driver keeps their video card running on their "open source" OS...
To me this seems more like something that should end up in Taco's journal...not on the front page. This is a rant about why blizzard should be doing something different based on one WoW players experiences and opinion. I'm not trying to troll or anything, but this is not news/media in any way.
Well, for not being complete it certainly holds on par and most of the time beats out opera in features...
Maybe not as fast but a lot of people tend to disagree with that statement...
Tabbed browsing is not an extension of firefox. It's built into the browser.
One feature I like about the All-In-One-Gestures extension that I use is that it makes a red line for your gesture. I've programmed them to be just like they are in Opera and i've never had one problem with needing any precicion. My "L's" usually end up looking like "C's" and it figures it out.
Middle click functionality is also built in by default. Not an extension.
If you're looking for a polished program, Opera is the way to go. If you're looking for the program with the most future potential, Firefox is the way to go. Being open source and having support for extensions makes Firefox the winner for me here.
While you yourself may not find many very useful extensions, everyone one of them on the firefox site is being used by SOME people out there, so someone's finding it very useful. One of my favorite's is the weather channel one. You can get it right on the weather channel website. It's pretty high quality.
My all time favorite's are "linkification" and "adblock." The first turns anything that's not already a link that has URL format into a link so you dont have to copy and paste it to your address bar. With Adblock you can right click and block any banner ads, iframe, and other crap the add companies use to display adds. Pretty much all the sites i go to have no ads on them anymore because all the providers are blocked.
I personally have have never had Firefox take more than a second or two to load. I defrag regularly so that may have something to do with it, but who knows.
To opera's credit, i do believe their HTML rendering methods are superior. Their HTML compiler is definitely the fastest one i've ever seen... Their CSS support is pretty much on par with each other.
This is such a tough choice for companies. It's more of a practical vs cutting edge thing. HD-DVD "technically" isn't as "good" of a format as B-R. The problem is that with production prices so high in comparison, people would rather buy something cheaper. I think the major issue at hand here is that you have half the industries supporting one and half supporting the other.
If it all goes to market, we're going to have to either have players that play both or two separate players. And you can imagine how confused non-techie people are going to get when their B-R disc doesnt work in their HD-DVD player.
I'm not trying to troll here, but this sort of thing has been going on for years. Intel and other big names have been sponsoring top clans and individual gamers for a while now. A lot of people have small computer businesses in their towns sponsoring their clans and stuff too. It's very common for internet cafe's to sponsor teams as well. I'm not sure why this is being reported as a "new thing" because it's most definately not.
I agree. The shuffle is amazingly clear for being a "budget" line device. I was impressed with the sound quality coming out of such a miniscule device...
I'm not saying you're wrong, about this, but if you have some evidence i'd sure like to see it... Otherwise this just looks like an anti-windows rant... (not that that's a bad thing to everyone...)
Sounds (again) like Google is planning on getting into the browser/mail-client business. I think a new windows Shell developed by Google would be a nice hit too...but i wouldnt put too much hope in that idea coming through...
that's an idea you'll not gain wuick support on while surfing on a zealously pro-linux site. The words "not free" are an abomination.:-P However, popups are a vile and terrible evil. And those moron activex deals that automatically try to install themselves when you visit a site are vile as well. I use firefox... Blocked popups and none of that activex crapf.
It's a question of intentions from someone who has supposedly had quite the opposite intentions before... If it was about the "quality" of products using the linux name it would have been $100 not $5000 to use the trademark... Linus, i believe, just made a nice sized hole in his whole idea of free software and opensource.
I know this will be modded down, but how is this not a step toward Microsoft-esque tactics? "Linux is all about freedom and open source!" BS.... If i was any one of those companies i'd just drop everything linux related and use a competing product just out of spite... This is pathetic... mod away.
lol you don't know much about islam... Iran for example used to have a huge sign hanging outside of their foreign ministry stating "Israel must burn." Almost all islamics hate israel and i guarantee you that you couldnt find one "radical" islamic who didnt hate israel...
Yeah, for permanence i agree... If there's one think that tops the list of unreliability, it's wireless. I've honestly never seen a wireless connection that "always" worked. Don't know what it is, but for permanent things wired just seems to work better. Or at least permanent things that matter...

They expelled a student from my high school for making a wesite about how stupid he thought the school was...

I can hear the conspiracy theorists now...
SEE!!! THEY WERE DOING THIS ALL ALONG!!!
Bah.... I for one would love to check this thing out sometime.
lol i think my point was that i dont want to go search for something that there is only a marginal chance even exists...
lol i'm not entirely sure he meant this to be funny. It could very well be he was serious... That's the impression i got anyway... :-P

been there, done that, works fine. I hosted a lan party with 6 people at my place once and it worked great...
