What's funny is that you're absolutely right. I wonder how many execs at the suing company actually use a blackberry. How many congressmen? How many Judges? How many USPTO employees? They would be falling all over themselves.
You say Clinton was under attack constantly by republicans? Look at the Dems going against bush. It's just as bad if not far worse. The Rep's didn't have the 88% of the media backing them like the Dem's do. (That's right, 12% of the media can be considered more conservative than liberal. Explanation is in the rebuttal by fox to the "documentary" called "out foxed" if you want my source. It's pretty undeniable so don't write it off just because you don't like fox.)
And as far as Clinton Purjuring himself, that was plenty documented and shown in news... He lied under oath. That's called Purjury. Duh. Just because he wasn't tried for it doesnt mean it wasn't true. The whole thing was pretty stupid anyway. Everyone wanted to impeach him and then, what, one person actually voted to remove him from office? It was all just a big "lets see how bad we can embarrass Clinton" ordeal. They SHOULD have stuck to the issues like purjury IMO. Having an affair in office isn't exactly illegal in any sense. Maybe it's against the code of conduct and maybe morally it's sick (anyone who cheats on their wife should have their manhood removed IMO), but it wasn't "illegal" per`se.
Until anyone can prove somethign Bush did was illegal, he is innocent and that's the way it works. The closest thing to actually "illegal" he did was ordering the wiretapping and it's yet to be seen if that even WAS illegal. If it was, then he should deal with the consequences because otherwise every president from now on will have the authority to violate our rights. If it wasn't illegal then he "wasn't violating" our rights. There are circumstances laid out that call for measures like this to be taken, it just needs to be proved that this was one of those circumstances. They need to show exactly who it was done to and justify every single one of them and prove it was probably cause or something to that effect. There shouldn't be any blanket statements involved.
LOL, I'm just glad this country doesnt operate on trial-by-opinion though because it's sure true that every president would be removed from office if that were the case.
You are entitled to your opinion. "We" are not there, the soldiers are there and 99.9% of them whole heartedly believe in what they are doing. And you betray your "vendetta" pretty wildly in your comment. You don't have to say "I have a vendetta" for it to be obvious.
I think what remains to be seen (and will be in due time) is whether or not there is a loophole in this system that allows such a thing to take place. There could be something obscure that we just haven't heard mentioned yet. I think it's safe to say that none of *US* are supreme experts on this subject. If 50% of politicians are saying it was legal and the other 50% are saying it's not, they had both better be coming up with proof of their point of view.
Yeah, I'm a republican, but crime is crime and if bush committed a crime, then that will be determined and consequences will have to be doled out. Clinton purjured himself at one point which normally would yield a much more severe punishment than "illegal search and seizure." Illegal search and seizure just demands that any evidence found during the illegal seizure must be thrown out and not used. Purjury will land a person in jail...sometimes for a very long time.
While i'm sure some of you may have a vendetta against the Bush administration, and anyone would be hardpressed to deny that there have been tactical blunders in Iraq/WOT and maybe other things, i think it would be prudent to be ready for any result of any investigation not to yield too much punishment on Bush. Even if he were impeached it's virtually impossible that he'd actually be removed from office...
i happen to agree. Yeah, it's annoying for everyone sometimes, but worth it if anyone were to attempt anything. I nmapped our network once and it basically got an "unhackable" rating... That was cool.
correction: i see now that it was a "proprietary" file system. Part of me wonders if it's proprietary for their backup device provider and anyone could use that same software or device to get the data off. I find it hard to believe that a company would design their own filesystem for their backup tapes. I think they're downplaying how serious the screwup really is... Chances are someone could download the software or something to that effect and pull off all the data they want...
You've got to wonder why these people didn't have this stuff encrypted... An encrypted filesystem at least or straight up file encryption even... When are these companies going to get a clue?
And storing the tapes in your car? What happens if it's 100 degrees outside?
Where i work, they make the backup copies and have someone drive them to one of the other branches at the company. They make a backup every day and keep seven days worth of backup in rotation so if something went wrong 6 days ago and they backed up the problem every day, they ahve the 7th backup left to work with...
Unfortunatley i don't know what their view on encrypting the data is. With as anal retentive as the IT VP is about security though, i can't imagine they wouldn't be encrypted...
You forget that linus is not obsessed with $$. "Micro$oft" on the other hand... I think his allusion is perfectly acceptable. MS does everything they have to just to get by or "win" and that's it. This creates a headache for everyone on the technical end of anything. Yes, he could have used an "S" but he chose to use a "$" because of the probable motive behind the "M$" way of "half-jacking" everything...
Other than that, i find your post highly anal retentive. Seriously...why?
i'm not sure that's going to be a problem. There's nothing illegal about storing and accessing your own music online. (as long as only YOU can access it...) Honestly I would see the problem being the usage of their standard locker playlist idea of linking to other sites streams. A lot of sites rely on the ads that display in a special window while listening to their stream...and this does away with that.
Uploading your own music to store and play from a third party site shouldn't be considered illegal. In theory it's no different than uploading them to your own password-protected site...
If hosting was a little cheaper and your music collection smaller, it wouldnt be too hard to just write your own system that does this actually. Nifty...
to steams defense, i must say i've never had a problem playing offline...
I did actually buy the physical CD's and didn't have any trouble at all playing it the day it came out... I never had the notorious steam issues that everyone was whining about at first...
I do agree that any software bought should be resellable, and that includes a license to software. I can't deny that on a personally level it irks me that you can't go down to EB and buy a used copy... But again....maybe smart business. You know valve has got to be rolling in $$ now because of all that. Not to mention that gives them a lot more resources for future games. Maybe they'll be nice and not totally rip us off like every other publisher seems to like to do...
While i agree with your sentiment regarding the lack of "all rights reserved" licensing, i do happen to enjoy steam. It's just incredibly handy to open steam and be able to launch and buy many games from one interface.
The licensing vs buying software is hardly anything new. For instance, people have always licensed windows or MacOS... While certain members of this site may say "taht's exactly what i mean" and then no buy windows, I for one do recognize the upsides of windows and do enjoy their interface. It's pretty configurable if you don't mind messing with resource hackers and regististy settings...
Anyway back on point: Licensing vs owning software has been around for a LONG time. Just because you have a CD for a piece of software doesn't mean you own it. Most games that have come out in the last 10 years have all been licensed.
Valve didn't cross some new line... They did away with the need for a publisher which means more money goes right to them...and they can keep people from buying used games. From a business standpoint, what they did was brilliant. Steam has also proven to be remarkably stable and fast (although it did have soem teething problems at first). Other than that, it's up to the user to decide what they want to support or not support.
If they want to keep their games from having the ability to be sold second hand, they need only sell them exclusively on steam or another content distribution system. HL2 even sold in stores, but the CD-Keys were only good for one activation on steam and you were not able to resell the games. They didn't sell additional CD-Keys to stores like EB-Games.
The publishers (who use CD Keys) do sell cd-keys to stores so their games can be resold...so really it's their own fault on that front as well.
The publishers need to get a clue. There are very few games that i would ever even consider spending 50 bucks on. The only one i ever have was HL2 and that's because....i'm a HL addict.:)
I don't believe i could have said it better myself... I guess stealing software is stealing software, but this is like those pathetic cases of people sueing mcdonalds because they got fat off their food. I think i'm going to go sue mitsubishi because my eclipse has the ability to break the speed limit...
It's like, obesity is the punishment for overeating, tickets are the punishment for speeding, and lawsuits toward individuals should be the punishment for stealing....
They cover changing out hardware and preventing leaks in their article. You may consider reading it next time.:)
Honestly though, if it was me, i'd keep the whole case in a tub of some sorts JUST INCASE it leaked...
I Think i'd have to custom make a lid of the thing that would exhange case air directly outside my house to keep from getting that nasty oil smell...
On another note...i'd have used pure synthetic motor oil for this. Very little smell comparitivley and you can get it in very light colors, including even clear...
Something that helps this sort of thing is an eye exercise that strenghtens muscles in your eye.
First, take a pen/pencil/finger/whatever and hold it/put it at about 5-7 inches from your eyes (right between your eyes so you can focus on it with both eyes).
Next, make sure you are in an area that has something about 10-20 FEET away that you can also focus on.
Now focus back and forth on the close object to the far object repeatedly for about 3-5 minutes (or however long you can stand it...). Just focus on the far one and as soon as it's in focus, change your focus to close one and then back and forth like that.
My old IT director did this and corrected "bad" vision from using computers... The other IT director decided to shell out a few thousand bucks for lasik instead.... It's all in how valuble your money is to you.:-P
This would instantly lead to the obliteration of political talk shows of both conservative and liberal genre's. I've come to the informed opinion that political columnists and talk show host don't have a flipping clue about the real world and the real people out there living in it. They let you get half your rebutting sentance out, then trash you non-stop until you are forced to hang up on them or are hung up on.

I've just spent the last "while" looking all over the net for stuff about this game. It seems like the interview is true. They're currently randomly charging people's pre-order accounts without giving them the game and stuff like that. Some of the pre-order people are getting a white box with an unmarked CD containing an early beta of the game. They refuse to give refunds and the servers are not up. Most people paid 30 bucks, never got the game, and if they did they wouldn't be able to play it.
This is just the surface of what has gone on. It looks like an idea that went horribly wrong adn then turned into an all-out scam. Really pathetic...
Sounds like it's halfway decent compared to what i initially expected. It's still too expensive for me though. I'll buy it in a couple years when you can get them for 200 bucks... I'm not that into console gaming. I'd rather take a ride down to the range and shoot for REAL. (or boot up my PC and get better controls and better graphics that i don't have to sit on the couch to see):) The most i've ever spent on a console was 50 bucks for a refurb gamecube at eb games... Other than that, i bought a refurb dreamcast for 30 bucks from eb and my parents bought me a gamegear a long time ago...
I'm sure the console will get better with age as more and more stuff becomes multithreaded. Supposedly not one of the games that's out for it now is multithreaded... I'd like to see what happens when games start coming out that ARE.
Well, 0.44% is not too much to whine about (less than half of one percent?) It could be that maybe a lot of popular *new* music didn't come out during that time compared to the quarter before.
Not to mention a lot of the MP3 player sales they're basing their estimates on could have been bought as Christmas presents.
I think they just WANTED a big growth in sales and things just don't always work out that way. They should compare things year to year, not quarter to quarter...
I guarantee you the school children in 3rd world countries or otherwise will be absolutely thrilled with these "undesired gadgets."
On a consumer in the US level, not really sure. Heck, i'd buy one just for kicks and so would a lot of people, but who knows how big of a seller they'll be. 200 bucks for a new laptop running linux is a steal no matter how you look at it.
The card runs just fine. I wouldn't get anything slower than an X700 though. I would have paid a little more for that if i had the chance to do it all over again.
