Huh? I've been using the RS cloud for a couple months. I like it. What's wrong with saying so?

  2. Rackspace on Microsoft Azure vs. Amazon Web Services, For Programmers · · Score: 2

It's worth noting that rackspace's cloud system is pretty slick and easy to use now as well. Nowhere near as big as those two monsters, but it's a very well done system that is very easy to use, and pretty cheap on top of it.

Seems like a front-end serving statically cached content is a great match for Virtualization. DB servers and search servers (Solr, etc) aren't a good match imho, unless you have a very well implemented sharding/horizontal scaling solution. If you pre-generate your content, we've typically used hard boxes for those as well, but you may benefit from virtualizing those if you want to easily scale horizontally (assuming you have the hypervisor overhead).

  19. Re:spying on own family on Ask Slashdot: Best Way To Monitor Traffic? · · Score: 1

You're an idiot if you think parents being good parents in this way causes their kids to have trust issues. Parents should set expectations (tell the kid you'll be monitoring), and then do so.

NOT checking on what your kids do online is downright dangerous and stupid. How many kids have been kidnapped, assaulted, raped, you-name-it, by strangers they meet online? Not checking up on them is akin to letting your kid leave the house any time they want without telling you where they're going.
