Allow me to clarify: Goggles would make it so wherever you looked, you see what you would have seen if you were in the game. In descent, this would save having to turn, and keep you from getting disoriented.
But how is the display [driver] going to "know" where you're looking? if the goggles don't have gyros on them to detect head movement? (unless you had one of those things that "watches" your eyes, detecting where they look. I think they used lasers, and are now probably considered dangerours).
So thats what you'd need gyros for.
And so why are we talking about this, if its already been implemented?
And who wants to strap something weighing 10+ lbs to ones head?
Thats not a bad idea. I have Descent 1 right here by my left elbow: I never finished it, it proved too hard for me. I always thought it would benefit from some sort of VR immersion system-descent *does* support VR goggles (which I have never used, known anyone who has, or seen any. 90's fad, I do believe)
You forget: Quake's source is freely available, and could therefore be modified to be playable on this CAVE. What other games are like this? The only one I can think of is UT.
So, there you go. You can play Quake and UT. Happy with that?
I have cranium, and I think its crap. Its just to hard.
One game that I *do* like is Hear Me Out. Lots of fun, you can play with as many people as you like, goes as long as you like. And is really fun.
As for Uno: Yeah, its cool, but I haven't played Normal UNO since I learned ULTIMATE UNO. Goes like normal uno, only:
Anytime someone puts down a 5, every one HITS the PILE. Last one to hit it gets 2 cards.
Anytime two 7s are played in a row, cards are shifted to the left.
When a zero is played, the person who played it can switch cards with anyone else.
Playing out of turn: If someone plays a Blue One, and you have a Blue One, you can play it right away. And all the people in between get skipped. You can do this with any card, as long as its EXACTLY the SAME (alot of people get confused here)
Card stacks: If you have multiple 2's, or any other card, that are different colors, you can PLAY them ALL at ONCE (like it was one card) (on your turn) (unless you can play out of turn)
Draw two stacking: If someone plays a DRAW TWO on you, and YOU have a D2, you can just slap yours on top, and the next person has to draw four, unless he has a D2 and plays it, then the NEXT person has to draw 6, and so on. Same with draw fours.
If someone stacks more then one Skip on their turn, they skip that many people.
Pretty fun. Hard to get the hang of, but fun when you do. We play with 3 decks. Try it sometime.
yeah, 2 years ago, I got this in the mail. I said then: "This is intresting. I think I'll build one." Now I'm saying. "This is intresting-I wonder what other stuff slashdot is 2 years latent on.."
Actually, yes. The NSA has its own linux distro here (previously submitted to/. but, of course, thrown away).
I haven't gotten a chance to run it yet, but it looks pretty decent.
[offtopic]All you genius slashdotters out there, the NSA has a slew of scholarships for very smart people. I'm shooting for one, and you can, too! For more information, go to the NSA website, or to your local college jobfair![/offtopic]
All the big manufacturers have been pushing it, but no matter how much hype: it will never come alive. The only cool bluetooth thing I've seen was toshibas laptop with wireless detatchable keyboard. That was cool. The remotes for your computer? those are stupid
In the long run, it isn't going to do anything major to Microsoft
HAHAHAHAHA..oh, that wasn't a joke. If you took care to research it, you'd find that this is their profit model: 1.Sell xBoxs (lose money) 2.Sell games for xBoxs ($50 a whack, money comes back) 3.Profit!
buying games is crucial for them to make a profit. Cracks are everywhere for PS2, PSOne, etc. It amazes me that MS either 1)didn't research and say "Hey! These guys are gonna try and crack this!" or 2) think they could muscle down the crackers.
Sony sells linux for PS2! Their are also linux distros out there rolled by gurus..
If somebody manages to get some unsigned Linux executable running on the XBOX, mainstream commercial developers aren't going to flock to Linux on XBOX
What the heck's that s'posed to mean??
Not to mention, Microsoft can wipe the playing field clean with an XBOX 2 and ditch compatibility with the original XBOX. Then you have to start the whole process over again.
What cracker is gonna wake up and say "There's an xBox 2 out! that means xBox is no longer hip, and I have to move on!"??
If MS brings out the xBox 2, then they have *two* sets of cracks to worry about. This puts MS in quite the predicament..
My sister got broadband for her windows PC. Comcast gave her a cd with the instructions "pop this in your computer and your broadband will work". So she did.
It reconfigured the network settings so the broadband *did* work-but it also changed a bunch of stuff such as the IE icon, the title of IE "Microsoft Explorer-provided by comcast", bringing up popups and breaking the browser at random moments: which was all small stuff. The thing I worry[d] about was strange proccess's running..which could be anything, because my sister gets taken in by those "YOUR COMPUTER IS BROADCASTING AN IP ADDRESS" popups.
She never signed anything, never clicked "yes", it was all autorun.
-quake 3,because of its awesome sweetness, and because it runs Urban Terror -Jedi Knight 2, because you always wanted to be a jedi -Zombies Ate My Neighbors, because you need a game cartridge with a title to scare your friends.. -Grand Theft Auto, because you want to scare off the friends that remained after they spotted the above game cartridge, and are scared that you'll a)steal their car and b) run over them for $700..
Truly, you are a *pure* slashdotter/geek. While the rest of us are out here talking about pens, you manage to relate pens to the mac-pc/java-vb war. If you had related it to the linux kernel, or somehow bashed bush, your score would've hit the roof at "Score:6, Absolute Genius".

ColdC is a *mud system* its really quite nifty. It works on customized C code, great documentation and community. I'm not big into the mud scene, never was or will be, but this is/would be my mud of choice. Supports an appache server serving up HTML pages, or you can connect direct, telnet style.

Not so fast! I priced a $800 Dell to a comparable $999 iBook-and this is what I said:
The G3 is somewhat better then the celeron in the dell, but not as good as the P4. You get 10G more HD space on the Mac, 2 inches more screen on the dell: is it worth $200 more to have internetwork compatibility with the 2 macs you have hanging around? Plus, will your financial software run?

Not me.
Yes, but then you'd have to throw in some gyros to detect movement of the head. (the whole point of this is a "real world", right?).
And anyways, isn't that what those goggles did, anyways?
I like the idea of a CAVE because you don't have to have anything strapped to your head.

How could they do such a thing? They are *really* shafting you, man! Don't let em get away with it!
Actually, I've been thinking about a doom plugin that would scan in nethack/rogue levels, or vice-versa.
Obvious problems are that nethack is an RPG, and that dooms slope feature would be useless, but with a little work, it could all be integrated.
