  1. Even if you don't belive in global warming on Arctic Warming Drying Up Lakes · · Score: 1

Regardless of global warming or not, you wouldn't sit in your closed garage with the car running for any length of time, would you? For the time being we are living in this enclosed atmosphere with million and millions of vehicle motors filling our breathing space with the same pollution that would kill you in your garage, plus all the idustrial pollution. It's only a matter of time before this catches up with us, one way or another. Even if the globe isn't warming, something still needs to be done about it. These lakes disappearing may only be an early indication of something far worse to come.

And sea levels rising because of ice cap and glacier melting isn't a problem, the problem is the massive amount of fresh water released into the polar areas and disrupting ocean currents that have a great impact on weather patterns. I'm sure things woould be much different in the NE US and Europe if the Gulf Stream slowed to a stop, or even reversed itself.

  3. Therac-25 - Computerized Radiation Therapy Machine on Anniversary of the First Computer Bug · · Score: 1

Studied this accident when taking computer science classes.

"Some of the most widely cited software-related accidents in safety-critical systems involved a computerized radiation therapy machine called the Therac-25. Between June 1985 and January 1987, six known accidents involved massive overdoses by the Therac-25 -- with resultant deaths and serious injuries. They have been described as the worst series of radiation accidents in the 35-year history of medical accelerators."

Software controlling this: "Medical linear accelerators (linacs) accelerate electrons to create high- energy beams that can destroy tumors with minimal impact on the surrounding healthy tissue. ... Relatively shallow tissue is treated with the accelerated electrons; to reach deeper tissue, the electron beam is converted into X-ray photons."

  5. Re:Oh Great. on 42-Volt Autos · · Score: 1

Yeah, I wouldn't really damage someone's vehicle, but this isn't just a noise problem, it's a problem of someone invading my personal, physical space. Not only can I hear the noise, but I can FEEL it too. If I am feeling something annoying from another person, is the way to get back at the person make him feel something too? Not only does the car begin to rattle and fall apart over time, but the ignorant fool driver has to ask, "Huh?" with his hand cupped over his ear three times before he can hear what I am saying. These are the same retards that set off all the car alarms as they drive by at the mall. Most of them won't be able to afford a car with the newer voltage system, so it will be a few years before we have to really worry about it.

You must live by me, I have the same jackasses around, and they are indeed jackasses. Maybe with this extra voltage we can get some kind of device working where you pull up next to them, fire up the device, and it ruins their whole sound system, and maybe at least some of their vehicle's electrical system. Of course you would have to protect your own vehicle.

Yeah, they never should have wasted all that money on arpanet, since it was just going to die out. Microwave technology was another big waste of money. I suppose I could go one for quite a while with these.
