Thank you. For the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monstor, thank you.
One should not care who is wrong, just that they were, or are in fact wrong, try to change it, and attempt to not have it repeated in the future. Would it be OK for Bush to eat Jew baby brains if Clinton did too? My fucking goodness are people stupid...in this country...
In France (*ducks!), and in many other countries, they protest if their breakfast was cold and you can bet tomorrow their eggs will be piping hot. In other countries, the politicians actually fear the poeple (as it should be). In the US, they know that a good haircut, some big words and a great sound bite will win 51% approval no matter the agenda. And remember, if they can do it (you mean more power? hell yeah I'll do it!), they will. We are just too damned apathetic and under-educated in the US, and it's sad to watch... many of us are just waiting for it to end with one big toilet flush. Hopefully I'm stuck to the side of the bowl when it's through. But if not... oh well...
As it is right now the vast majority of us in the US live in a vacuum. We come home from our 10 hour work day (with a 30 minute lunch), feed the kids, clean the house, watch 30 minutes of Fox"News" and wake up in the morning and do it all again. This behavior seems absurd in other countries... because it is. People come to the US like poeple play the lottery. You can become really fucking rich here. If you are the greediest, most immoral person you will accomplish that goal without issue here. That's what the US is all about. When they speak of freedom in the US, that's what they mean. As many realize, the US is not the most free country in the world. In fact, there are many that are much more free. New Zealand, the Netherlands, Canada, Switzerland, etc... but it's harder to become super rich on the backs of normal people there. In those countries (actually, in all other industrialized countries), they have things like socialized medicine. OMG! Pinko Commie!!
Audio here from Ted Koppel on the same subject today.
But seriously, does this surprise anyone? At all? Evil, yes, but it's just more of the same and there's not a damned thing anyone is going to do about it. Welcome to democracy in the US. Defeat all that doesn't equal more power and money for those that have an abundance already. Gotta love right wing politics dontchya!
"he United Kingdom spends eighty billion pounds a year on healthcare, funded directly through taxes."
There are many books on this subject. Just pick one and read it. The US's military budget is larger than all other industrialized country's budgets combined. We have already spent 440 Billion and counting in Iraq. This would have easily paid for insurance for every child and many others since this disastrous war began. As that English guy said (I apologize, I forget his position), if we have enough money to kill people, then we have enough money to cure people. We certainly do. why do we select the wrong one, every time? Because there's no money in the opposite. The US is run by the dollar. This is by all definition an oligarchy, not a democracy. If fact, you would be hard pressed to find poly/sci profs not teaching it as such.
" His central point was: "Don't you feel like you're being ripped off paying for the health care of jobless people when you're busting a gut earning a living?"
I might also suggest you take a race, class and gender class at a College near you. The historicity of the "way things are" might surprise you. Fighting those forces rather than taking away health care as the deterrent, as the negative reinforcement to not be poor (and if I choose to be poor: in a free country this is a valid choice) would be the far better choice here, especially if you want to preserve a moral high ground, that we certainly do not hold anymore (US).
Look, we can watch Sicko to see the issues (even after taking out all of the Moore'isms in the movie) and hear the horror stories of the US healthcare system. #1 reason for bankruptcy in the US is health related bills. We do not live as long as they do in many other countries, our infant mortality rate isn't even in the top 35, and these corporations that run our health care system has a sole job of finding out ways of not providing you with coverage. Period. It's making some people very very rich, and the citizens of the richest country the world has ever known doesn't want to provide health care for its citizens, just like they do in every other industrialized country, holding a higher moral ground IMO.
"So writing a letter is morally equivalent to murder and vandalism? You leftists are truly incredible!"
Berating leftists in utter generalized fashion now gets you modded up? Who's giving these right-wing, nut job, confederate flag waving, homosexual hating, rule by power loving, Christian fundamentalists, white, uneducated, jingoist (right wingers will have to look that word up, sorry), truck driving, NASCAR loving hate mongers moderation points anyway?!
"Now, if you do believe that our friends in the health care industry are pure evil, and that they're spending blood money, then yes, Google is, indeed, being evil. And I suppose if you obediently believe every line that Moore has to tell you about the matter is the whole and honest extent of the truth, then there is no possibility that anything could counter it."
You don't understand. Moore told us very little in "Sicko". Very little. He spouted facts in the background at times (OMG, facts?), but 90% of this movie were Americans telling their story, insiders telling their story, some historical background, how it is in other countries (told by citizens usually), etc... so I'm not sure where you get your rhetoric. Have you even seen the movie?
One last thing... even if ONE person in this movie is telling the truth, then it's evil. Period. And are you actually suggesting I listen to a PR campaign by people who represent the organization who's sole goal is to maximize profit over the facts and stories of regular people, the insiders, the researchers, etc... ?
Yikes... In fact critical thought would tell you to measure the PR people's words with extremely little weight (consider your source). Now, counter what the insiders tell us, what the guy who had to pick which finger he wanted sewn back on, how much money each of those politicians gained in campaign money, how this isn't how it is in every other industrialized country, the origins of the HMO (that audio with Nixon was brilliant), etc...
I'm sorry, but you are just plain wrong and your logic is based on assumptions. The US's health care is fucked, this is clear and MM simply shoves it in our face. Good for him. At least someone is trying... we don't live as long as most other industrialized countries, our infant mortality is lower, health bills are the #1 reason for bankruptcy, etc... do you actually think that Moore is just as evil as this just for pointing them out?! Holy fuck dude... that's evil.
He wouldn't be on the other side of the debate. He has stated several times and over several years, that he does not like copyright laws, and agrees with sharing ideas, art, etc... He has never had an issue with someone sharing his movies. He just wouldn't like to find out that someone else was making money off of his work.
"If someone comes out with a vista laptop as nice as a MacBook Pro, then apple will really have something to worry about."
You just don't get it, and I can't believe you were actually modded up. You are actually suggesting that if someone simply builds a great laptop that Apple will have something to worry about? That's a joke, right?
People do not purchase Macs for their hardware (you and I'm sure a few others excluded). They never have. They purchase Macs to get to their OS. They buy a Mac to get away from Windows. It's been this way for a few decades now... my goodness. Have you not seen the commercials? No virus', iLife, intuitiveness, etc... Yes, the hardware is the cherry on top (again, always has been), but you seriously have got this backwards. If Apple's OS wasn't better than Windows (or at least have 5-10% think so), they wouldn't have sold computer #1.
If you are a someone who actually needs to use Windows... fine. Otherwise, just step away from the Windows on your Macbook Pro dude.
"Whats funny is if the sun imploded you would never know (except for the loss of light of course) because you would be the same distance from the center of mass with the same total mass."
If it did implode, or even explode instantly *poof*, no one on earth would see any difference at all for 8.3 minutes. The Sun would be gone and I would still be getting a tan for another 8 minutes.
"Frankly, I would likely use windows anyways. I mean, it IS awefully easy to pirate..."
You do realize that Mac OS has never been serialized, right? Couldn't possibly be easier to pirate. You could buy a copy of Tiger and install it on 1000 machines and Apple wouldn't care that much. But, they are a hardware company anyway. Their software is the "hook".
I'm a gamer too. I usually buy the Mac versions, but for those few that I would like to try out that do not have a Mac version, there's BootCamp, and soon to be Parallels with hardware acceleration which would be my choice (just keep the Windows crap out of my face!). Good luck.
"2) Maintain them easier - hardware and software wise - replacing parts is possible!"
What parts are you talking about? An MLB? For that yes, you do have to do to an authorized dealer or Apple Store near you. HD's, optical drives, RAM, graphics cards, etc.. are all very easily replaced on their pro machines. It's what makes them Pro machines. You can find these parts anywhere as they are standard parts. Not sure what you meant there... and it has been proven many times over, maintaining Macs take far less man hours. Saying that Windows is easier to maintain than Mac OS X tells me you actually have never used a Mac. I mean, that's just silly...
"3) Ability to upgrade "
See above. I've upgraded my dual 1.42 G4 to the hilt. Again, not sure what you are talking about. Are you talking about iMacs or something? Even with those HD replacements are not difficult.
I'm sorry, but you are just plain wrong in your assumptions. Yes, you can get them cheaper out of the box, especially if all you need is a "head" to collect emails and browse the internets. But, you will still be running Windows...
God: Now, listen, Adam and Eve. I've got a JOB for you. See this button? (Eve reaches for the button) DON'T TOUCH IT! It's the HISTORY ERASER button, you FOOL!
Eve: So what'll happen?
Adam: That's just IT! We don't KNOW! Maayyybeee something bad?...Mayyybeee something good! I guess we'll never know! 'Cause you're going to guard it! You won't TOUCH it, will you?(Eve salutes. Adam leaves.)
Adam: Hehhh...hehhhh...hehhhh...hehhhh...
(Eve marches back and forth, starting at the button.)
God: Oh, how long can trusty Cadet Eve hold out? How can she possibly resist the diabolical urge to push the button that could erase his very existence? Will his tortured mind give in to its uncontrollable desires? (God grabs Eve, forces her closer to the button.) Can she resist the temptation to push the button that, even now, beckons her even closer? Will she succumb to the maddening urge to eradicate history? At the MERE...PUSH...of a SINGLE...BUTTON! The beeyootiful SHINY button! The jolly CANDY-LIKE button! Will she hold out, folks? CAN she hold out?
Eve: NO I CAN'T!!!EEEEEYAAAHHHH! (pushes button)
(Alarms go off. Eve, Adam, and God stand around table with button.)
"I've been asked time and again "why doesn't my iPod work with Windows?"
I would tell them that you should format your iPod for Windows, unless you are absolutely sure you will only use your iPod on a Mac and format is as such by pluggin it into a Mac and clicking "yes, reformat it". The Mac can read and use iTunes just fine with a Windows formatted iPod. I use my iPod on my Windows machine for file transfer and listening to the music on it, and my Mac at home is the place I keep my music and have it synced. And you should never, ever, ever, ever, use an MP3 player as a "backup device for my important files".
Not only could you buy any third party mouse and just plug it into your mac and have it work correctly (no installs of anything needed) for years, but all Macs have come with the Mightly Mouse (5 buttons, 360 scroll wheel, etc..) for two years now.

And you are worried about someone stealing your music, and then having it avail for download? They would still have to show that you allowed the music to be avail for download...
"Who needs to buy music to distribute on P2P? Just download it from P2P first, then share it."That's an illegal act. You are stealing and then handing out the stolen goods to others. And remember, it's not APPLE dumbfuck, it's the RIAA (it's as if you skipped over that part of my post). If it was up to Apple, all would be DRM free. So far, only EMI is allowing it. Thank you EMI... you are barking at the wrong tree my friend and sounding stupid because of it...
". I mean, you even have to backup the songs you own, even though it costs them virtually *nothing* to provide you with a new copy if you should loose it."
So, when you step on your purchased CD, you expect the CD store to replace it for you? ARe you on crack dude? You seriously need to check your logic before posting... makes you look dumb...
It's not Apple! It's the RIAA! Got it? Good... All Apple did was make it easy for you to find and purchase songs, nothing more. How that is evil is beyond any right thinking person. You are just pissed that you can't perform illegal acts without getting caught. Um, sorry about that?
That's not what he said, but in your defense it's misquoted often. What B.F really said was, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." And he's right. But remember, you only have to scare 51% of the people into thinking that if we don't we will all die, and doing so is getting easier every year. Our knowledge of public relations and swaying popular thought is so deep that I unfortunately do not see those with the power to do the things they are doing giving it up so easily. Either many more have to turn on their critical thought caps (which again, seeing how our public school system is being dried of all things creative, thinking included I just do not see this happening), or revolution, it's all downhill from here. So, you pick... apathy until death, or changing things for the better. Kinda tough, I know, but you can blame every voter in the last several elections if it makes you feel better (probably won't... sorry about that!)
The only time iTunes "locks you out" is when you attempt to play a song purchased on the iTMS somewhere else. It asks you for the password of the purchaser (you can have that song registered on 5 different machines, each year). Most people wouldn't need their music on 5 different machines a year, but for those that do, just burn the songs and RIP, DRM gone.
And don't forget, Apple had to do this to allow these songs to be available for download. If it was up to Apple, all would be DRM free.
And my advice for the P2P thing? If you feel you must distribute songs illegally, then just RIP from a CD first.
How about this... I like freedom. In fact, you could say I love it. Having privacy makes me feel more free. Having it infringed apon makes me feel less free. Period.
Remember when this was an American ideal? Remember when it was an ideal that we fought for? And once again, "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin.
I'm OK with Homeland security having to work harder at their job in the face of not being able to spy on me. And to those that think this is dangerous, keep in mind that if we lived up to our ideals of freedom and liberty instead of enforcing our ideals of "greed" through force we wouldn't be discussing these issues.
"the Apple monitors would be counterproductive at best."
You mean the notebook monitors, right? Because the Apple Cinema Displays are quite good and are even SWOP certified for your soft proofing needs. For LCD's this is pretty damned good, but you do pay for it...
"How about the crappy network support, so that if I have the audacity to open my iBook somewhere other than "the network its used to" it literally freezes Finder for minutes at a time. How about when I drag a file from my FTP program to the desktop, Finder seizes up and I have to force-quit it?
Sound like you have some issues that need to be fixed on your machine, complaining about them on/. won't magically fix them, sorry. I've never had any of those things happen to me and I've been using Macs for years, in and out of networks all the time, using FTP apps of all flavors, I've been a.Mac member for 4 years syncing everyday, etc.... Seriously, you have some computer issues, and they should be looked at by someone who knows what they are doing. Have you done anything to try and fix these issues?
Thank you. For the love of the Flying Spaghetti Monstor, thank you.

(yes, I know your'e looking, hmm, hmm, there must be one here somewhere)
"How about the crappy network support, so that if I have the audacity to open my iBook somewhere other than "the network its used to" it literally freezes Finder for minutes at a time. How about when I drag a file from my FTP program to the desktop, Finder seizes up and I have to force-quit it?
/. won't magically fix them, sorry. I've never had any of those things happen to me and I've been using Macs for years, in and out of networks all the time, using FTP apps of all flavors, I've been a .Mac member for 4 years syncing everyday, etc.... Seriously, you have some computer issues, and they should be looked at by someone who knows what they are doing. Have you done anything to try and fix these issues?
Sound like you have some issues that need to be fixed on your machine, complaining about them on
