No quite in the IT/OSS/Web/CS category, but still technology, I've always been very impressed with the work of Bell Labs' James West, best known for his work with microphones.
For "Jew", yes. For "Jews", no, no message. And, that message is targetted at the hate sites that come up when you search for "Jew" (If you had looked at the results, and actually followed the link www.google.com/explanation, you would know this).
However, if you Google for "JewS", there is no message, and there is indeed an eBay offering.
A Google spokesman wouldn't comment on any talks with record labels, but did say the company believes music companies should profit from their content. Generally, "that's what we are working on," the spokesman said. "We are in the early stages now."
Because this is "below the radar" of most consumers who wouldn't seriously care anyway, because life is very complicated, and they have other things that they percieve as more important to care about. Seriously, the "average" person just shrugs and expects it as the normal course of things.
An interesting part of the linked story is that it mentions SCO income. What I would like to know is just WHO is still buying anything from these people?
They'll just stay "local" with their format, and everything's still just fine for them with about 1 billion potential customers at hand.
Exactly. Perhaps China is thinking that with THAT MANY "potential customers", they are in a pretty good position to dictate the CD (and other) standards as they wish? Kind of hard to ignore.
I can't help but suspect there must be more to this story than is being put forth. Part of me wants to believe his defense, "he never tried to defraud", but my distaste for legal mumbo jumbo makes me wonder more about the specifics
Exactly. It seems very popular these days for hackers to call themselves "security consultants"
What is stopping them from re-writing it in form but not function? The GPL is a copyright, they could make very quick work of reformatting the code, yes?
I haven't read anything that suggests that Google will not just be a distrobution source as well as maybe a place to stroe your docs. Point being, I suspect that at least some of the app will still reside on your computer. Then again, maybe this ties into the Google WiFi thing...
Last night I was asked if there was ever anything worth reading at Slashdot anymore. As I did not have a good response, I said maybe check out K5 instead...
But apparently it is! With the glaring lack of high quality story submissions suitable for the front page of the Slashdot blog, the "editors" have no choice but to draw from the other OSTG portals as well as commercial "Slavertisment" content. If only more Slashdot visitors would submit quality content that meets the necessary standards.
You assume the public feel compelled to "trust" Microsoft. In fact, Microsoft has become the company that everyone loves to hate.
Bologna. Nonsense. Most people do not hate Microsoft. Many people that are tech savvy don't like Microsoft, and some of those actually hate Microsoft. But overall, these groups to not constitute "most people".
Plus his "unauthorized snapshot of Google's computing framework" makes absolutely no sense and the second figure shows the "fission occurring" as Google's "software engineering for higher performance" and "hardware engineering for reduced costs" come crashing together. Is this guy for real?
I think he's got a real synergistic momentum going, he's defiantly thinking outside the box in a way that exposes this new Google paradigm.
There is this absolutely fantastic car I know of... Well, except for the doors that open backwards, the solid orange windshield glass, the foot pedals located in the trunk and the fact that the steering wheel is square. Other than that, it's the swiftest car since, well, sliced bread!

Is there any significant use of the Google IM product? What are the stats? It was in the news, and than POOF! It was gone.
So you are saying that although you use Gaim exclusivly, you still care about the MSN / Yahoo situation? Please explaine...
Perhaps, but we still have a lot of blood-letting yet to go.
However, if you Google for "JewS", there is no message, and there is indeed an eBay offering.
Wonder what PETA has to say about this...
Don't forget: Google is "good" not "evil".

Extreamly sad.

Sort of. People tend to understimate the value of technical support for something that is advertised as being "free".
Since when has Slashdot ever had issues with Astroturfing for their friends?
Well, I suppose there is a small statistical possibility.

No, I object to Big Boxes paying people shit wages...
