Grandinous isn't even a word o.O I'll admit the U has a bit of trouble playing up its strengths. Look at the old Nanofab lab in the basement of ETLC.You wouldn't know it was there if someone didn't tell you. In spite of that, that lab houses millions of dollars worth of very expensive equipment. As for the CMPL... Yeah... I say that place should be knocked down with Vwing and the physics building.

This is idiocy. Of course time > skill ;)

The example given with the UI artist is not substantiated in any way, shape, or form. It would make more sense that an average UI artist could create something on par with a brilliant UI artist if the average one invested the time.

Methinks the writer of the article is just pissed off about something or the other and wants to rant. Much like me.

But I'm in Mexico, on a beach, with free booze, so I don't care.

Inflation is a pain in the ass because it makes the fun items harder to get. When I say harder, I mean that one has to shift the focus of the game from "adventuring" to "earning income."

I pay to play "World of Warcraft" not "World of Capitalism." I don't want to have to spend hours working a job just to buy a sword that should cost half of its sell price.

  6. Why it doesn't matter. on Disabled Fans Shut Out of Galaxies · · Score: 1

From a business standpoint, the percentage of LucasArts' market that is disabled to the point of potentially requiring special HI Devices is extremely small. It is not worth LA's time to bother recoding their game again to appease such a small portion of their market. All they have to be sure of is that this one case doesn't get so dramatic that people will look upon the company poorly.

Careful in your quotes, Bruce. There's a difference between a "Linux War Weapon" and a "Linux War" weapon, the latter of which is used by CNN in its article.

  8. Few reccomendations on Trying Your Hand at Level Design? · · Score: 5, Informative

I'd try bouncing a couple of levels off the fan community first. As far as games to develop go, I'd develop primarily for FPSs, and maybe a few strategy/adventure games. I don't play many of the latter, so here are the FPSs: Q3 and anything that uses it's engine (i.e. has Radiant editing tools) -- very easy to use, allows for lots of creativity. (Other Q3 engine games: JK2, RC Wolfenstein, Call of Duty?) The unreal games also have a nice bundled set of editing tools that would aid your portfolio. Best of luck!

  9. Too many problems. on UK Police Want An Automotive Tractor Beam · · Score: 3, Insightful

Besides all the aforementioned problems (most notably hacking), people dislike having their control and sovreignity taken away from them. It doesn't sit well with most to know that any second they could no longer be in control of something that is theirs. In addition to this, imagine a system like this malfunctioning for some reason. No good can come of that. Then there's also the problem of corruption, and economics and business politics. Who's going to pay the automakers to install these devices in their vehicles? What do the automakers get out of doing this? How do you standardize something like this? Is everyone in the UK going to have their car taken into the shop and have one of these devices installed? What sort of system of regulated checks will exist to oversee the functionality of this tractor beam system? The list goes on. Hold it to a plebiscite, I doubt it will stand.
