To begin with, i hate enterprise, so i'm looking for reasons to rag on it.
In that episode, they said they couldn't launch their weapons from orbit b/c their tactical computer or something was broken. Couldn't they just ya know, do the math? i mean, they could still pilot the ship, they had to have a calculator working.
Yeah that was always one of the marks against it, in terms of mass consumption. I rather liked that as opposed to STNG, things actually lasted more than one episode. Like somethin bad would happen to a character, but would be better by next episode.
Funnily enough in Amazing Spider-Man when it was being written by J. Michael Straczynski there was a scene where two Nuclear Something or Other Facility Guards hold a (in comic books) lengthy discussion over this point. I forget the exact wording, but one guard says to the other about how long it takes for B5 to go through a plotline, and the other guard says that thats the beauty of Babylon Five.
Okay, so maybe i messed up the delivery, but it was a good idea at the time.
And because people will know that their school is accredited and their education is worth something, they will get hired. And they may be paid more than those who are not from accredited schools. And since when is the government renowned for doing everything efficiently? Furthermore, just because the government is doing something does not mean it wil be free. Its just you'll have to pay either higher taxes, or some other programs will be cut to fund it. And are you really rejecting the (i thought) universally accepted theory that free markets lead to better products?
I used to think that these things were unfair and that US (or the west in general) soldiers shouldn't be so out of risk or as powerful. Then i realized, fuck that. What war does to a soldier, i cannot completely comprehend. But i can comprehend it enough to say that any tech that means fewer soldiers have to die, that its a good thing.
Does anyone know where Japan gets most of its energy from, i.e. fossil fuel power plants vs nuclear vs. hydroelectric and etc? because even if they all switched to no-emissions cars, that doesn't mean that total emissions would drop. On that same note, what is the efficiency of a fossil fuel power plant vs. a standard gasoline fueled car? of course, its almost bound to be better than some of the gas-guzzlers out there, so i might be better to shift to a centralized system anyways. not that the japanese are really into gas guzzlers, i think.
But then, wouldn't only the independently wealthy be able to be full time congressman? Ancient Athenians learned this lesson, and decided to pay their elected officials.
It isn't that stupid. Taxes on gas are for maintaining the roads. As cars in general get more and more efficient we'll have to revamp the tax structure. Just because the cars are better for the environment doesn't make them better for the roads.
Couldn't they just check your odometer when you get your car inspected, then tax you accordingly? The intent of the law seems good enough, but the method is a pretty horrible invasion of privacy.
man, you nutcases crack me up. +5 insightful? are you kidding me? Does anyone who is reasonably intelligent actually believe that some shitty copyright law will make the US implode? or that all politicians seek to enslave the american people? So if politicians seek only to serve corporations, how do you explain those who advocate stricter pollution regulation? or those who won't vote for this bill? Oh, wait a second, that doesn't fit in with your retarded wet dream that america has become a fascist dictatorship.
1. often Fascism
1. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
2. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
OR the powers that be will see that pirates are completely unreasonable, seeing as they cannot distinguish between extremes. BTW, i don't think that pirating music is ethical either. YOU DO NOT DESERVE THE FRUIT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S LABOR. Pirating media is NOT civil disobedience. You are too cheap or too lazy or just apathetic to ethics. "Information deserves to be free" is a flimsy justification for benefitting from the fruit of another man's labor. You want to break the system, then refuse to participate. Don't buy the works, and don't consume them either. And participate in our government. people who disagree with the system should become consumer rights advocates. raise money, hire lobbyists, support candidates, make tv commercials. co-opt the current political parties. work the system. its all we've got. Nerds in their rooms using bit torrent will NOT bring the industry to its knees. It will just anger them, make them more strict and less likely to listen to reason.
Well, the patriot act wasnt all bush. the house and senate rubber stamped it, without even reading it. They had a duty to the people who elected them, just as much as bush. they also voted to give him the power to go to war. you can explain it as much as you want, but the votes are the votes. secondly, the supreme court has ruled against imprisoning citizens without charges and due process, saying that bush doesn't have a "blank check" to fight the war on terror. and frankly, i havent seen any abuses of the patriot act. now, i do not agree with most of the patriot act, but i honestly do not think it was passed with malicious intent, and i dont think that another act in the same vein could be passed now. As for invading countries bit, come on. We dont have the manpower for another major war like iraq or afghanistan.
BTW, i didnt agree with bush on these issues, and i voted for kerry. I just don't agree that bush is an evil megalomaniac, that americans who voted for him are stupid, or that iraq and afghanistan were paragons of democracy or virtue. we didnt have the right to invade iraq, we didnt even have a good reason, and we havent fought the war correctly.
So i guess my answer is that what youre saying never really happened, the way some people would describe it, and i don't think he could.
Please. There is no country in the world where its >legal to bootleg movies.
You don't have the right to the latest movies. If you think they're not worth paying for or waiting for them to come out on video, then dont watch them. Three minute songs that are half samples anyways are one thing, but hours and hours of film and TV? Be honest people.
well what do you mean REALLY wrong? If he stole the election, it will assumedly be turned over to kerry. if it isnt revealed until after the inauguration, we may have to settle for impeachment of the president, and probably of cheney too. in that case the Speaker of the House, Dennis Hastert would take over. If he's involved, the next one up is the President Pro Tempore of the Senate, the longest serving senator of the majority party, in this case Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. Next up is Secretary of State, Secretary of the Treasury, Secretary of Defense, Attorney General, Secretary of the Interior, Secretary of Agriculture, Secretary of Commerce, Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, Secretary of Transportation, Secretary of Energy, Secretary of Education, Secretary of Veterans Affairs, and the Secretary of Homeland Security (not yet set by law)
No...only if they were in competition with humans who had better eyesight. Besides, sight and smell wouldn't be lousy, they would be a mean of the high and low ends of the spectrum, the middleground. SO there would be something of an advantage to having both decent smell and decent eyesight.
Well, if you dont want the photo function bloat, save 100-200 bucks and get the normal ipod. However, i'm pretty sure that the photo thing will just be an out of the way function, like the calendar. i think the album-cover thing is pretty cool though, and it makes me wish i couold upgrade from my 500 dollar 40 gig 3g. I think the PDA problem could apply if they had put a camera on it. To me this seems like a new top of the line ipod model, only you get more for your buck than just some extra storage. That said, this seems like it will have a smaller market than the standard ipod. More of a geek thing.
Another thing i was wondering, whats the refresh rate for this LCD? With a firmware update, or a hack, could it display video?

I don't have alot of personal knowledge here, so i'm just putting out some questions that this brought up for me.
