Mod parent up. I wish I could have this post printed on newsprint. Then I could roll it up and whack people over the head when they complain that Linux has no warranty.
It depends on what you are trying to do. If you want to divide 1 foor into 6 parts it is easy, but say you have 2 23/64 inches and want to divide this into 6 parts? It would be easy with the metric system as this is 6cm. If you want to divide a meter into 6 parts, just angle the ruler until it measures a nice multiple of 6.
My guess is that the humans "enslaved" themselves to survive some sort of ecological disaster. They set up the matrix to keep humanity alive and set up the rebellion so that after it was safe to live on the surface, there would be someone on the outside to free everyone in the power plant.
Most electricity in this country comes from burning coal. Coal doesn't burn cleanly and gives off all sorts of contaminants _including_ radioactive material. Getting off coal and back on nuclear will be a big step forward.
Strippers? Reminds me of the episode of "Family Guy" where Quagmire goes to the strip club and runs out of cash, so he "uses" his ATM card. Man I muss that show.
Thats why I said a bond. I could buy a million dollar bond for much less than a million dollars if the person putting up the million thought that there was very little chance of my patent being invalidated.
Upon approval of a patent, the patent holder must provide a bond of ($1 million, $10 million??) which will be turned over to the first person who can provide prior art not disclosed in the patent. The patent office obviously can't weed out the bogus patents (or maybe they just have no incentive to). But the folks underwriting their bonds will spend considerable effort checking out a patent before they put their money on the line.
The problem I see with this is that we assume that the circuits that implement our desired function will be selected for. What if the circuit can be biologically successful without implementing the desired result. After all, we haven't figured out the question to that 42 question yet.
Guns have significant uses for recreation and protection. Napster was created to facilitate swapping of music period. I'm all for independant bands getting their music heard, but let's be realistic about what was going on.
As far as these VCs were concerned. In seems that they had taken over the operation of Napster, including its legal responsibilities.
It specs a recoil force of 90 (yep, NINETY) pounds in the forward direction
I have read that in other posts as well, and I just don't get it. The gun throws a bunch of photons in the forward direction, and (presumably) nothing in the reverse direction. Why should the recoil be in the reverse direction? Is this another case of something I missed when I fell asleep in Physics lecture?
Another good thing about water is that it expands as it freezes. If it didn't, then the ice would sink to the bottom of the ocean, leaving the water on top to freeze into ice... Not that this is absolutely necessary, but I'm, sure it helps.
have an option to change its user agent on the fly? If so, It could impersonate one of the more popular browsers if the user said the page looked funny.
I think the Hydrogen Peroxide used for rocket propulsion is much stronger than what you find in the drug store or hair salon. You need special tanks that inhibit its reactivity, and if a small piece of metal comes in contact with it. kablammo!!!
YOu just need a really large bandwidth converter, then you could record the entire spectrum and when you play it back later, you can tune in different stations. Not remotely practical today, but in a few years, who knows?
Did someone see an image of the virgin Mary, or St. jude in the linux kernel sources?
You are right to put "zero emissions" in quotes. Electric cars are powered by coal, like it or not.

I disagree. Entertainment is quite useful.

That would be great for camping trips too. A device that would convert sunlight to microwaves for cooking.
While you're all stuck in the office, I'm hiking ~!!!~~~!!!~~~~~ up here, the view is
LOST CARRIER
It sounds like a quote from Zoidberg, hurray.
Life on Mars, why not.

What I do with telemarketers:
as soon as you realize that someone is trying to sell you something:
State loudly and clearly "I am not interested"
Put the phone down (don't hang up)
see how much longer they stay on the line.
Sometimes for a bit of variety, I put the phone next to the TV.

What did those Napster guys think the users were swapping? 10 MB recipe files?
People taking there hands off the steering wheel to talk on one of these things...
I think we should apply this technology to public transit. Just give everyone on the bus a steering wheel...

By the many arms of Vishnu, I swear it is a lie.
