  1. Telecom and other Corporations on FCC Backs a Tiered Internet · · Score: 1

This seems to be one of those instances where the free market bites a corporation in the butt and then they whine to the Government so that pro-"their business interest" regulation is put into place or in place regulations are used/ruled in their favour. Thus making it an un-free market even though corporations are championing a free market to whatever gov. official will offer them sympathy.
In this case AT&T was free to create it's own innovate search engine and reap the benefits from it. Investers would not have made the same dough via AT&T than Google by making sure a brand new company introduced itself to the stock market.

Did you ever stop to think why people are having that much of an emotional reaction? People did not have a candidate (or a manifesto) to make a case FOR until Kerry got nominated and they didn't get daily talking points telegraphed to them via biased media sources either.

  8. Re:ahhh, brings back a memory... on A Peek At Script Kiddie Culture · · Score: 1

Back in '96 and '97 on EFNET I was running an IRC channel basically using AmIRC and a modified AREXX script (for auto-ops and quizes etc).
One week my channel was in the target sights of a script kiddie group who thought they would have some fun.
My AREXX bot didn't reply to any pings so no system resources were used there, winnuke doesn't work on A1200 Amiga's and I could spawn as many bots as I needed.
EFNET was also very prone to Spliting into different server groups (Europe/UK) at the time so when that happened I could have a bot in each server group and I would find a group where no Ops existed for their channel and when it re-joined my Oped bot would automatically Op my other bots (or myself). The bots could flood the chan with random text if required.
After a night of not having control of their own channel they called a truce.

Just another example of the power of AREXX :)
