  1. "maximum" penalty on Equifax Slapped With UK's Maximum Penalty Over 2017 Data Breach (techcrunch.com) · · Score: 2

The Maximum penalty would be dissolution of the company. The maximum penalty the UK could probably make happen is they are no longer allowed to operate in the UK in any capacity.

IMO, a breach like this means they have demonstrated they cannot be trusted with private data, and should no longer be allowed to store private data.

The other question everyone should be asking is: How did they get this private data? I sure as hell didn't give them permission to have it. (I know, likely hidden away in the TOS of credit cards I have).

Fun times. The world of computing was so full off wonder back then. (it still can be, bun one has to look a lot harder)

I'd suggest a simple test: can the so called libelous material be found without goodgle? (say, using another gateway site like excite, or bing) If so, then clearly google isn't the only route to this material, and shouldn't be held liable for it. (another argument would be: wny are you only suing Google when all these other indexes also have links to it? )

  5. Very Clever, getting the police to erase evidence on Kim Dotcom Demands Access To Seized Property To Defend Himself · · Score: 1

'excessive police action' was used during the raid. Dotcom could prove this in court because the entire raid was recorded by CCTV data, which is stored on Dotcom's confiscated computers.

Making this claim seems like a great way to cause the confiscated hard drives to get 'accidentally' damaged.

(If they really did contain evidence against the police, would you reveal that while the drives were in police custody? I wouldn't).

I have ridden motorcycles, in Bay Area traffic. I agree it is a lot of fun. However, I wouldn't claim that 99% of motorcycle accidents are the fault of the driver (unless you include selecting a motorcycle as your vehicle in the first place). Most motorists are oblivious to anything smaller than a car.

A motorcycle is a T.I.E. fighter, highly maneuverable, but no shields. One has to pilot accordingly. This means
a full 360 degree scan at least once a second. I have had cars try to drive over me from just about every direction.

I felt the safest on the freeway when I was going so fast it was unlikely anyone was going to come up behind me, so that I only had to scan in front of me for potential assailants, with rear scans less often.

The worst is when stopped or not moving very fast. One doesn't have nearly as much maneuverability then. (that is where the 0-60 in 4 seconds can save your ass).

My uncle has a country place
    That no one knows about

    To far outside the Wire
    Where my white-haired uncle waits

    Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
    Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
    Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
    For fifty odd years
To keep it as new has been his dearest dream

I strip away the old debris
    That hides a shining car
    A brilliant red Barchetta
    From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
    Responding with a roar
    Tires spitting gravel
    I commit my weekly crime

    Wind
    In my hair
    Shifting and drifting
    Mechanical music
    Adrenaline surge...

    Well-weathered leather
    Hot metal and oil
    The scented country air
    Sunlight on chrome
    The blur of the landscape
    Every nerve aware

    Suddenly ahead of me
    Across the mountainside
    A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
    To run the deadly race
    Go screaming through the valley
    As another joins the chase

    Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
    I've got a desperate plan
    At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
    Race back to the farm

The company I work for: Intellinet Controls sells multi-room audio systems. Our latest product, the RS3000, includes web based control (which is really nice with a wireless webpad), keypads in each room (and a remote), and can be easily intergrated with mp3 jukebox software (I use Globecom Jukebox) (we plan to provide it as a option for those who don't want to set their own up) I have a system installed in my house, and I think it is great (of course, since I wrote most of the software it does exactly what I want :-)

I found a remote with a trackball on it (called a "web remote" which plugs into the serial port, so I hacked the output format and wrote a custom plugin to irmp3 IRMP3 which translates track ball motion into volume / balance / bass / treble (hold down different buttons for each). Works fairly well (only problem is the web remote has lousy ir error detection, so occasionaly presses the wrong button, so I would reccomend finding another brand).

How about someone who is sleep deprived, or has a hangover, or is breaking up with their lover? As usual, everyone tries to fix problems by focusing on causes, rather than results. No one should fly a plane, operate heavy equipment, drive a car, diagnose a patient, etc. unless they have the reflexes and mental capacity to do so. If you are an airline, don't ask your employees to piss in a cup, ask them to play a fast moving video game for 5 minutes to test their reflexes and cognition. If they don't pass (for ANY reason), they don't fly. This is a MUCH safer means of evaluating a pilot's ability.

(BTW, I have know people who learned something while stoned, and could not remember how to do it straight, but if they got stoned again could do it perfectly).

We have a 3D game engine and development environment for Windows & Sony Playstation we are porting to Linux in our spare time, and are planning to announce it once it basically runs. See http://www.worldfoundry.org for an idea of what is is capable of.
It currently uses 3D studio max for level creation (geometry may be imported from several packages).
So once the engine is working, the big chalenge will be to pick a 3D editor for the level editing system.
Any programmers interested in assisting please contact me at kts@worldfoundry.org.
