I want one that big. Not everyone uses their laptops in the same way you do. I don't take mine on plains, trains, and other public spaces. Mine migrates from my desk at work to my desk at home. I want a large screen (and yes, I already have it connected to an external monitor at both places. I like using it in dual-head mode with tons of screen space). You want a small laptop. That's great. Lots of companies are making small ones. But some of us really do want large ones. Your way isn't the only way people use laptops.
If I was going for a laptop, i'd get a 12 inch or 15 inch, since portability is really what you want in a laptop.
You mean it's what YOU want in a laptop. I want a large screen. I don't carry mine around with me constantly. It goes to work, and it goes home. I don't take it to cafe's, on trains, or to random places much. I want a big screen and dont' really care if it is 20" wide or weighs 10 lbs. Unlike you, I also have several apps open and onscreen at what I consider usable sizes. Different strokes for different folks.
It's nice that we are getting a wider selection of models available so that each person can chose one that suits them and the way they like to work. I don't think 19" and 20" models will take over in what's used. I think we will see that sales in laptop sized will be broadly distibuted, jusst like their uses.
Do you really think the ad hominem attacks help prove your point? Sorry Jr, I've never lived in a basement. And I left my parent's house long ago, right after high school. Got any more personal shots you want to take, or do you want to have a real discussion about how "conservatives" are dragging down our country?
Then again, forget it. Two posts in a row from you talking about parent's basements was enough. I'll save the discussions for folks who can have a rational discussion without resorting to ad hominems. Have fun with your baseless personal attacks on folks who disagree with you on any topic. That's a good "conservative" thing to do.
Right, that's why our conservative leaders want to drill in Alaska, are friends of big oil, and one of them has an oil tanker named after her. (hint: oil companies don't want you to conserve on oil. Neither do those leaders)
Uh, if you wanted to condemn them for not having a tool like this, you should already have done so. Once they come out with it, you shouldn't suddenly start bitching that they are late.
Then again, you are probably one of those/. trolls who hate anything MS does ever and will not be happy even if they do something you want them to do.
RTFA. Mythbusters team didn't perform the experiment. Mythbusters asked the MIT team to do the experiment on a real boat instead of some replica they built on a rooftop. It was the MIT team who tried to set the 80-year-old fishing boat on fire. Are you telling me the MIT team didn't have the necessary knowledge to comprehend what the experiment was about?
Replace Environmentalists with Christians and I could say pretty much the same thing. "tendency to place politics above science, practicality and common sense", "conveniently ignoring scientific evidence that goes against their dogma's, falsifying studies if the results are not as dire as to warrant a screaming fit protest, and decrying methods and policies other than their own", I get the feeling that many of these groups are in it for the power to meddle with people's lives".
Extremists of any time are bad. You hate environmentalists? Should I hate all christians because some of the lunatic fringe blow up abortion clinics and do other nasty things?
There is nothing wrong with being an environmentalist. You just said that this group seems to be sensible and sensitive to what the navy needs to do. Therefore, they don't seem to all be the lunatic fringe elements that you naturally have problems with.
Extremists are bad, but don't confuse all people who consider themselves environmentalists with the extremists.
Level3 started to re-peer again. Temporarily. They will de-peer again on Nov 9th. Users of Level3 and Cogent have until that time to make plans for alternate hosting/routing. Basically a bunch of people spent a bunch of money to get multi-homed since Level3 and Cogent want to play games. Others who didn't spend money are going to be very unhappy again after the 9th unless Level3 and Cogent playing nice.
Maybe because for one of the gigantic Tier-1 ISPs, this comes right on the heels of another deliberate outage where they disconnected from another Tier1 provider with no warning to customers of either. On top of that, in a couple weeks they intend to do the exact same thing again. I think many Level3 (and Cogent) customers might be much more likely go go with one of the other 10 major providers rather than one involved in constant spats with others, or ones who disconnect entirely from the rest of the Teir1's from bad software upgrades. I know several companies who are planning to change from those two once their current contracts run out. I'd be shocked if there weren't lots more considering it or doing it.
I've got one, but I'll warn you that I'm not trustworthy.;)
Unfortunately, OpenBSD isn't a supported client. They don't make VMWare tools that install on OpenBSD, so the video performance, etc, isn't as good as it could be. The FreeBSD VMWare tools don't work under OpenBSD, at least as far as I've found.
As someone who's wanted to run VMWare on BSD or OpenBSD for quite a while, let me tell you, I've tried and there are problems. Only ancient versions of VMWare work, and those are only by a real hack. I've emailed and phoned VMWare about it, and there apparently have no interest in making it work on FreeBSD as a host system.
They might not have the option in the player to install the VMWare tools for the OS you install. Without those, your video performance is going to suck pretty bad for many things.
Maybe it was. One of the things the are looking for is the parachute. I mean, it's a parachute, on a planet that has high winds and dust devils forming constantly... I would think it could have been there orignally and have been blown a long long way from there in the past 5+ years.
Then they are not talking to you. On the first page of TFA he is asked what his target audience is, and the answer is not 'everyone'.
I did read the article, and it was less than insightful or useful.
"Who is your target audience for the book?
This book is for people who think for themselves, who don't buy the party line. It's for people who recognize the necessity of functioning in this Microsoft-dominated world but are willing to try alternatives.
People who think for themselves and don't buy the party line. Hmm, I guess those people could never make use of applications that only exist on Windows eh? If you can think for yourself, an equivalent OSS app magically exists. Sweet. *Cough*what a load of crap*Cough*
Even if you're a regular user of Windows or Microsoft Outlook, you can learn how to keep from suffering security breaches, malevolent viruses, clumsy applications, and misleading help messages. At the very least, you can learn how to attain some level of damage control when using Microsoft systems and software.
Don't think Mac or Linux users are immune. You still have to deal with the Microsoft world -- opening Microsoft Word or Excel files or Windows Media files from other people. You may have to create files for others to open with Microsoft products. You have already strayed from the Microsoft Way, but you need this book to arm yourself with the tools you need to deal with the output from the Microsoft world."
Oh wait, if you have to use MS software, learn to use it well. Wonderful. How is that "saying NO to Microsoft"? Basically, his target audience is for folks tired of using MS stuff, who have probably already heard of Thunderbird/Firefox/OpenOffice, etc, and he's pointing out that that OSS software is out there. NO MS, great. Unless there is no OSS equivalent for the software you need, in which case they still have to use the MS software. This is just a brilliant insight.
For crack they have a convienient little test kit. Toss in a bit of the sample. If it turns blue, it's crack. Arrest the guy.
If the kits didn't exist, they would have to send the sample to the lab to have it analyzed. That's what they are doing with the hard drives since there is no step 1,2,3 test kit to prove this crime.
It comes down to the police having enough good evidence to convience a judge that the crime most likely did happened and that he should write a search warrent. I have no problem at all with that as long as the police and the judge are technically savy enough to analyze the evidence to know what it really means. If they aren't savy enough, that's when you are likely to get the bad warrents and the bad outcomes.
I hope you realize the vast majority of those 40,000 installations would be on things like personal blogs etc, that Oracle would never be used for in a million years and can't rationally be considered competing in Oracles market.
Sometimes you win converts by having a solid product with good features and reliability. Someone on some message board telling some newbie to RTFM before asking a question that's already answered in a FAQ isn't going to stop me from using a more secure, stable or full featured software. If some guy out there having a large ego is stopping you from using the right tool for the right job, I think you need to review your priorities.

Having never watched the show, I can't comment on their typical experiments, but this one was done by the MIT team according to TFA.

I have many friends. Are most people my friends? No. They have different meanings Mr. Coward.
Extremists of any time are bad. You hate environmentalists? Should I hate all christians because some of the lunatic fringe blow up abortion clinics and do other nasty things?

It might be a good time to push for them soon. It will help reduce bird flu. ;)
Those laws aren't everywhere, but they do exist in places.

Uh no. Level3 disconnected from ALL the other Tier1 ISPs. So did Verio. This had nothing to do with last weeks Level3/Cogent spat.

Oh, I guess you just ASSUMED he was for the status quo. You know about what they say about folks who ASSUME? I guess you are the jackASS.
Got a link to it? I haven't read any forums on the books, but that might be a good read.
Maybe it was. One of the things the are looking for is the parachute. I mean, it's a parachute, on a planet that has high winds and dust devils forming constantly... I would think it could have been there orignally and have been blown a long long way from there in the past 5+ years.
And how does 'here' show that you are affiliated with the site and just posting an ad? Put on a real disclosure next time you post an ad.
