I don't think that they would have shot down all four planes, even if they had fighters tailing each of them from takeoff - I don't think that they could have done it until the first plane hit the trade center.
Well, yeah I'd have like for them to have tracked the dirty sob's that stole money out of my bank account, but it wasn't enough money lost for the cops or FBI to even bother with.
I think that if they actually did start going after and meting out harsh penalties for this kind of theft (the "small" stuff), a lot of other problems would fix themselves.
I'm thinking more specifically about credit card and identity theft. I suspect that alot of the small time stuff is done in an organized manner, and that following up on some of those "small potatoes" thefts would pay off.
Probably not a popular view around here, but I think that identity theft should be a capital offense. So should wire fraud.
And okay, maybe in fifty years, it won't matter that we've used all these resources up so pointlessly. What about in 100 years, or 500 years? Aren't people then going to be a little pissed off at us at the mess we've left them?
Piles of resources neatly separated and waiting to be exploited? Don't you suspect that when resources get tighter, land fills will be mined?
Northern Iowa - I'm more worried about a structure fire 6 or 7 miles from town on the edge of our district.
Up until last fall, our "new" pumper was a 197x 750gpm unit, and we had two tankers to service it. Now we still have that plus a new 1000 (or 1200)gpm pumper that we can set up - but we still have the two tankers.
We haven't had a structure fire where we're the primary department since receiving the new truck so I'm not sure how well we can keep both trucks supplied with our current tankers.
We also have a "grass rig" truck - a 4wd pickup with a work box and a 750 gallon tank on it. For field fires we can roll with that and pump&roll with the 197x pumper.
That's what the new truck is supposed to do, but we've not had a chance to try that yet. We've got two tankers and can set up a pretty good cycle if a fire is somewhat close to town - but there's a pretty good lag if it is 6 or 7 miles out.
We're a rural department - we've got two of those tankers. That's a lot of water, but when you're pumper can go through 1000 gallons per minute, it doesn't seem like that much!
We've had some bad things - it's just that the car accidents are quite as bad as they are in places with more high speed traffic.
We had a small plane crash into a different corn field one August. The corn was literally tall enough to hide the plane - I ended up climbing to the top of a bin to look and guided a truck across the field to find it. The pilot was dead, but his mom was around - don't think that I'll ever forget that.
And Ford's new pickups with magnesium radiator mounts. Vehicle fires and accidents will just get "more interesting" as these kind of things gain ground.
We don't have that many accidents around here (low traffic roads that are flat and straight), but I've only been to maybe one accident where the injured occupant was still in the car.
Had a two vehicle accident on a gravel road intersection. One vehicle was in the ditch, and I didn't even see the second vehicle for a while because it was 3 or 4 rows into a corn field. Even in that accident, the occupants of both vehicles were out of the car by the time we arrived.
As for the "free speech" argument: I have no obligation to subsidise the spammers' advertising. If they want to advertise, let them put the ads on a web page, instead of using spam and making others pay the costs...
Freedom of speech is not the same as "freedom to make you listen to me." I could stand on a soapbox in the town square and talk, but I can't force anyone to actually listen to me.
How often do you go around jacking various vehicles (ambulances, fire trucks, tanks, etc.) to find out? If anything, the cops in GTA3 forget that you're a bad guy too quickly.
Or, to put it another way: version 1 sucks, version 2 sucks, they keep pushing on, version 3 isn't bad, 4 is better, 5 is pretty good, 6 is excellent. Of course, at that point they've improved as much as they can, things start getting clunkier and the Linux knockoff has reached the quality of version 4.
They keep pushing on adding unnecessary features making version 7 a bit worse, version 8 clunky...
I'm a volunteer firefighter and we did get a warning about the Ford pickups and their magnesium parts. Probably will never be a problem, but it would really suck to have a fire that we really need to put out that we couldn't dowse with water.

That will certainly be handy for the EMS personnel if you're lying in a ditch somewhere...

Those who were getting refunds were smart enough to file earlier. Mostly those who owed taxes were left by the 15th.
Or a virus. "Borrow" millions of PC's to click through ads and sell spam relays on the side.
You just chose the wrong department to file paperwork incorrectly with.
Is there any reason not to forward spam directly to the info@optinbig.com e-mail address?

Couldn't they just tie the who bought what information from the point of sale?
As for where you take them, you'll do like 100% of their customers do - take them out of the store when you're done with your transaction.

Is that any different than the spammers including random words to bypass spam filters?
Sounds like its a step backwards from my dependable HP-28S.
How about www.gator.com - make that spyware good for something!
I'm thinking more of a farm work truck with a couple hundred gallons of fuel in the back, perhaps parked next to a chemical storage shed.

The other thing about that mount is that if the truck catches fire and it is hot enough to ignite the magnesium - ouch!
Cool - didn't know that.
I also have a $20 bill from the early 30's. Think about what that was worth at the time!
