is it subliminal or not (read illegal)?
I don't know about the rest of the world but where I come from (Iceland) there are 2 rules who are supposed to make it harder for tv-stations to put subliminal (hidden) ads in their shows / movies.

    1. Almennar meginreglur.
(ads shall be easily spottable as such and clearly distinguished from other material; Hidden commercials are forbidden; technics for subliminal messages shall not be used in ads)

    2. Kostadar utvarpsdagskrar skulu vera ljoslega audkenndar sem slikar med kynningu, nafni og/eda vorumerki kostanda i upphafi og/eda lok dagskrar
(sponsored programs shall be easily recognisable with an introduction in the beginning and/or at the end of a program)

The laws that contain these articles are from the year 2000 and I suppose they originate from the EU, as do much of the law that are set here in Iceland.
When I say "supposed to make it harder", I mean that they are not strictly enfocrced, maybe that will change.

A friend here in school, who agreed to try OO out for a few weeks, before I helped him install a bootlegged MSOffice, told me today that the only thing he didn't like about it was the slow startup time.

So I googled and found this on OOoforum.org:
Go into tools / options / internet / and select "none" under proxy. It will help Ooo fire up quicker.

... andi it did, startup is quicker by far. Is this a bug?

  9. Re:Download caps - I live on an island on The Australian Broadband Disaster · · Score: 1

I live in Iceland which is, similar to Australia, in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but water.

We too have a cap on adsl, but only on downloading from abroad. For an example, my connection has a 1 GB free abroad download cap. It can get as low as 100 MB with other ISP's.
This is due to the connection Iceland has with the outside world, an underwater string (to Sweden and the USA) which, although not being expensive, has limited bandwith.

But where there is a problem, there is always a solution. Many ADSL users have p2p programs aimed to download only from peers inside the country. The most popular program being cc++ It currently has about 5000 icelandic people constantly online sharing files with each other, which is pretty neat considering that the population of the country is around 280.000.
Aside from that, when I dl maybe a linux iso I try to do it from a local mirror, we have quite a few of them, especially for linux :)

I am pretty positive that the dl & upload restrictions in Australia are due to the continent's connection to abroad and therefore I recommend to Australians to try our way, it works :P

  13. What will it be used for here in Iceland? on Hydrogen Fuel Station in Iceland · · Score: 4, Interesting

For now, there is only one vehicle in the country that runs on hydrogen fuel, they put 1 kg of hydrogen in it at the ceremony: http://skeljungur.is/uploads/images/Raðherra dælirC.jpg That car will be sent back to Mercedez soon I think. For the nearest future, 3 hydrogen fueled busses have been ordered and will arrive in august. The sole purpose of this hydrogen fuel station is to service these 3 busses (for now). Actually, this means that 4% of all the busses in the capitol will run on hydrogen :) The next step is to start powering our fishing ships with hydrogen, which make a big part of the CO2 that comes from Iceland. Hydrogen is for now mostly useable for big machinery such as busses and ships, the personal car will come hydrogen fueled later on (it's not very practical at this time).
